View Full Version : Celebrating at Christmas in Capitalista style!

For the few that know me personally know I am a commercial banker and very much a Capitalista through and through... in fact I am so right wing, if I was a bird, I would probably fly in circles.
Just at a time I have been really missing the action and variety of my previous employment getting "better work stories", I had some very welcome but very unexpected good news at the bank.
I was recently asked to consider a more senior role in the city. After a couple quick trips to the city over lunch and coffee with the person who recommended me for the role, I decided to apply when they indicated that the extra cost and time in travel would be more than compensated for.
Met with "the boss" the other day and he said he wanted me for the role above the one I was asked to look at......
I was utterly surprised! So, the full offer came today which I duly accepted with glee  A nice surprise for Christmas indeed.
Anyway, thats my good news for the Christmas season.:2thumbsup
I pity the poor sods who will be working for the Toaster. This Kiwibiker is going to be a very busy boy in 2008. For those of you that I have yet to meet that work in the Auckland CBD, pm me sometime - I do love a good coffee/beer and chat.
Merry Christmas my fellow bikers.

Nice work if you can get it....
In a similar vein (possibly vain too), I've also given my job the flick and am moving to greener pastures, the best bit is that because my new role is in competition with another division of my old place I've got "gardening leave". Paid but not working til the end of January.

As a fellow 'Banker' I must say well done sir.
Hard work does pay off, being recommended for a promotion and getting it is a great way to go and a really good feeling.

I had a surprise last Friday too. Just as I was feeling like I would need to start looking for a new job, my boss asked for a quick meeting and told me I was getting a 10.6% pay rise, backdated to the beginning of October!
It was a very welcome and unexpected surprise, as I haven't had a real pay rise in the past 3 or 4 years.
Unfortunately, due to a recent company takeover and resultant change in financial accounting, the payrise missed this month's payroll yesterday, but that means another healthy wodge added to next month's payroll.
Yeah, you too!
Thanks for your kind words mate and congrats to you too! The extra $$ certainly helps. All the best for 2008!

Exceedingly well done Toaster ... now you can afford another german helmet - or more sheep, whichever may appeal more. :niceone: Or perhaps more fuel for the evil beast. :first:

Thanks mate! Yeah well, I have 3 helmets (all black) now so I better slow down or I will fill the study wardrobe up with all my biker gear!
More fuel means more riding - I like your way of thinking! Having said that, the Government takes 40% of it. So I suppose most of it will go on all the increasing prices of fuel, food, beer, wine, beer, power, gas, beer, fast women, beer, oh and I suppose the mortgage!
