Sister Scholastica – a nun famous for biking round the Western Australian community of Kalumburu - has died at the age of 90.

Bishop Christopher Saunders, referring to her as the “Most photographed nun in Australia", said the community she served for some 50 years is deeply saddened by her passing.

Bishop Saunders added she will probably be best remembered for riding a motorbike to combat failing health "She would ride this motorbike around the mission and down to the village and back again ... sometimes at a great speed. People naturally got out of the way because she only had two speeds, which was flat out and stop!"

A requiem mass will be held after Christmas.

Wonder what bike she rode?

Please turn your songbooks to page 73 and be up-standing for the choral rendition of Richard Thompson's "1952 Vincent Black Lightning".

I love that song. I've seen him perform it live a couple of times - Thompson says that of all his songs, he never tires of performing it.

I googled her and found a photo of her sitting on what looks like a farm trike. Must have been a real character.
