View Full Version : Wanganui: Boxing Day Races - spot the KBer

janno
21st December 2007, 07:44
It seems like quite a few KBers are planning to go to the Boxing Day Races at Wanganui, including plenty that I've "met" online and would like to meet in person.

How am I going to recognise you all? The crazed, computer monitor shaped eyes?

The flaccid lower lip with the thin silver thread of drool emitting from the side of the mouth?

The TV remote control carried at all times with "Green/red rep button" painted on it?

Or perhaps you'll be the adults hurling small children out of the play area so you can hog the swings and then have fisticuffs over whose turn it is and who said what to whom . . .

Seriously, I'd like to meet you and if you are like me you won't be in possession of a KB item of clothing and don't feel like scrawling your site name on your tshirt.

Suggestions? (No, get a life is not the required response right now. Thank you.)

The tall, dark, handsome one with women fighting for his attention? The one who really should replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond? Yes, you'll be easy to spot . . . will you let me take a photo of such bodily perfection?

janno
21st December 2007, 07:53
Seriously chasps, I've read others saying "I was at such and such an event and knew you were going to be there but didn't know what you looked like" etc, seems a waste of an opportunity to put a name to the face.

Unless people like to hide of course (glances in paranoia over my shoulder . . .)

This is mildly embarrassing, but... I have no idea.

You might try asking Kornholio; he was standing next to me in that photograph, looking very amused...

I didn't say dark, but Timothy Dolton is my double.
Do you mean there are real people behind the screen?

Look for the KB patch on a shirt, jacket, or sticker on a bike, walk up and ask them to take you to their leader.

What about a KB assembly point on site somewhere (nothing official needed although that KB flag would be a handy dandy thing!). Not in the pits because I figure that's busy enough now and them in there don;t want to be popping up to say hi all the time.

Maybe at one end of the BP forecourt? The end nearest that 90 degree corner (on the left hand side as you look at the BP from the street)?

LOL technically the answer is "yes". Sadly it's yes to all three... it's not a pretty sight but Dan seems to enjoy it.

I was picturing it as a "drop by" place personally... it's a long day to be hanging around there but whatever works.Yeah, I don’t meant to be rude, but it’s a long hard day to get the chair up there from Chch, get the scruteneering done, deal with all the race stuff on the day… I cant think of anything worse than having to deal with a whole lot of strangers “spotting the KB’ers” through the pits…

Sorry if that’s rude.

Parking is about a 1km walk (from memory) from the BP, you won't be able to ride there, But park up and walk to the petrol station on the day (you'll see what I mean when you get there).

joni, permission to hunt the pits in an attempt to meet you? must buy you that drink as well AFTER THE RACING.

Bollocks ... we missed all of you. We saw Chanceyy briefly but it was in the middle of the race so had to concentrate.

We were at Turn 4 which is the right hander at the top of the hill up from Suzuki HQ. On foot, just by the wooden steps (on the right) where you come down from the cemetry towards Suzuki.

Speaaking of cold ... ferk ... we got HAILED upon at Pukerua Bay! Have we time-warped to the Northern Hemisphere for xmas or something ???

I must have made 3 circuits of the cemetery inside and outside! I wanted to meet so many more of you but didn't know which people to crush... I mean... hug...

I canoodled on Chanceyy, man-loved MDU, jostled JRandom, klutched Kiwifruit, shakeded Sunhuntin, grappled with Gixxer4ever, jammed with Janno, welcomed Wasp27, 0ooed (and ahhed) at 007XX, nuzzled Neil (007XY), squeezed Sensei, nurtured Nadroj, seized Stickchick, locked up Limbimtimwim, mugged Malcolm, slapped Str8 Jacket, dodged Deano, slipped into Sels1's arms, snuggled Speedygirl, worshipped White Trash, rubbed up against Riff Raff, nudged Nicko, and waved to Shaun (but he ran away before the gates opened)

I may have missed out one or two of you (many apologies) but my brain started to get a little fried by the end of a long and fulfilling day. How many highlights of the day were there for me? God! Too many - meeting so many KBers, watching some fantastic racing, successfully pillioning a precious package there and back safely, getting cuddles, the noise, the crowds... an absolutely fantastic day!!

Only one regret - I didn't get to you all. If you see me coming next time don't run and hide, I don't bite... much.... :bleh:
