KBers plates

Someone's bound to have suggested this before but here goes...

I wonder if the site could accept members plate numbers as profile data.

They'd be invisible to everybody (except the DBA, I suppose) but be available as an address when sending a PM.

So you see a bike or biker and want to send a message to the owner - you use the plate number, and if they happen to be a KBer they get the message.

If they choose to reply, that's then up to them.

Yes, tis a lovely idea but too easy to have that information fall in to the wrong hands. I'd not be keen for it.

Don't see a problem with confidentiality really. If the cops tap Spankme and demand "Who has plate ABC123" an Mr Spankme replies "That's Ixion". So what? "wodya mean 'Ixion'. Woz his real name and address?" "Dunno - true". So the cops would know that the rider was 'Ixion'. Gee, that really helps them. Much more than the stuff the Motor registration people could tell them.

Technically a bit tricky though, many bikers have more than one bike, and it would have to be kept up to date.

Oh yes, but you bring up the most important point; what are they going to do with that information, as they've already got it all :laugh:

I'm sure the police would like to be able to tie real riders and bikes to the user names on this site, however. Would make the threads about `Wow I just ran from the cops, went down an alleyway next to this little park...'

I think the cops have better ways to track people down from plates.


...and a person who, for example, does not have their real name and address linked to their plate would probably be a person who didn't enter it into KB.

I'm not suggesting at all that it be compulsory!

No thanks for me,any people I 've met ,i.e stopped at local cafe/bar or similar and are on bikes usually are asked if they are on kb,or ask their name anyway.
I bought my bike via trademe,it was in local area and rego was in pic,went to post shop and after spending $2 or so had the guys name,looked in phone book and gave him a call,bought the bike and wasn't a member of trademe at the time,made for interesting feedback,the guy selling gave his wife feedback,as I'd taken it on buynow.
