A bit of cop appreciation

The cops on this site absorb an unbelievable amount of sledging and yet they still come back with usually witty rebuttal. The following is an example of the crap they have to deal with every day.

A Wanaka police officer is lucky to be alive after he was run-down by a female teenager who was trying to avoid a drink-driving breath-test.

Constable Mike Johnston said the officer suffered a broken right lower leg and a possible broken left ankle about 3.30am today when he attempted to stop a vehicle on Brownston St, Wanaka.

The officer was about to process a breath screening test when the car accelerated across the road hitting a protection fence and a commercial building before stopping.

The vehicle narrowly missed a stream protected by the fence and a large tree.

The officer had attempted to stop the driver and was dragged about 40 metres through the fenced area before the vehicle stopped.

The officer was able to detain the female driver despite his injuries and took her to the Wanaka police station.

The 18-year-old driver was arrested and processed for drink driving and was likely to face further charges.

The officer was taken to the Wanaka Medical Centre for treatment and is now recovering at home.

"Our injured officer is extremely lucky to be alive and we are thankful he will still be around to spend Christmas with his family.

"Yet again we are left with the consequences of the irresponsible actions of an allegedly drunk driver creating victims."

So from me a big thank you for the good crap we never hear about.

Now about that ticket...........just kidding team.

Yeah read that earlier today, maximum respect for completing the arrest lol, almost unbelievable with such injuries. Not an easy job, can't say I would do it so tip my hat to those that can put up with the crap they have to & still remain a sane human being :not:

I remember doing an OSH risk assessment form for EBA checkpoints at night. They wanted to shut all checkpoints down after that. Scored 2000 points or something silly like that.

Shortly after, at a checkpoint on SH1 at Horotiu, 11pm. With about 4 cars stopped in the checkpoint I had the following happen in a 2 minute period.

Guy had a heart attack while waiting to be tested. Full throttle, smashed into the car in front, his airbags went off, cop knocked to the ground, I had to smash my way in to his car from the passenger's side window - it was locked with windows up, and at first thought it looked like he was doing a runner. Turned out he was pissed and disqualified, but HAD had a heart attack anyway! Fortunately an ambulance drove through while I was calling 111!

2 minutes later, 5 kids (12-14 years old) from South Auckland in a stolen car did a u-turn before the checkpoint. In front of a milk tanker. 'Luckily' none of them were killed.

While the tanker was still sliding down the road with the kids under the front wheels, someone being processed for drink driving on the bus king hit the female cop processing him, knocking her out cold. He ran off and jumped into the river - never to be seen again. By anyone. Well not alive, anyway. His blood came back under the limit (well at 80 - on the limit)

Got a 'phone call from Taupo Police the other day in regard to my recent inability to stay upright on my motorbike. Was expecting "we are charging you with....." etc, instead got an earnest enquiry re my injury and how well I was healing. Didn't seem particularly interested in the details of the accident but rather that i was healing well and wasn't going to give up biking. Nice PR work sir.
A girl friend of a work colleague was recently attacked while out jogging and the Police have made regular contact with her to make sure she is o.k. and encouraging her to continue her fitness regime.
There are some good guys in the force despite the few bad apples.

Hell yes....

Last night I was delivering the post teens to a birthday bash and had one in the boot of the station wagon - not strictly legal but i was sober and they were NOT and we got hauled up at the breath testing stop.

Cop looks at carol the corolla, looks at the xmas lights in the rear window, looks at the luggage screen (giggling) and the 5 other merry xmas youngun's and gives me the breathaliser and it was all he could do to keep a straight face - 'Merry Christmas' to you and ALL your family sir....

I have to agree fully with this as I keep seeing these guys answering all the tricky questions and entering in all the debates as it gives me a better understanding.
