God-damn flat tyres!

Little bit pissed off hear so bear with me. Although I they are a lot better than a bin they still are a PITFA.

Let me start with my first flat. Didn't have my license yet so I decided to head down to the river and do a little riding there. Was there for all of 10 minutes when fuck, my rear tire had gone flat. Phone call home and I had a trailor to come pick me up. Was a nail in the tire / little expected from a river I guess. Patched the tire up and was all good again.

Second flat. Have my license now and I'm riding as much as possible. So I'm out in hastings and coming home when I decide for a detour out round bay view. Get into the little township near eskhills and Jeeze another flat tire. Another phone call and I've got a ride home on the trailer. This time it was the front tire and it looked as though it had been put in twisted and had pinched. Patched that up and good to go again,

Third and hopefully last flat. 3 days later (today) Decided to go out for another ride with my dad as I had some lovely new boots for Christmas. Well heading up the Napier-Taupo road, turn 'round as we had gone too far. Going around a long corner I feel the bike start swaying or something, then coming out of the corner it feels a lot more stronger so I pull over. And what do you know, back tire had gone flat. So dad goes home ( bout 20 minutes away from home) and he comes back with trailer.

Bikes sitting in the garage now and I'm gonna take the wheel off again and see what's caused it. I'm gonna put a new tube in now and see if that helps.

But FFS is this just bad luck or could there be something wrong?

I had a run like that about 25 years ago but never had a puncture since. Of course I carry a can of aerosol stuff in case of a puncture so naturally I won't get one ... until the day I leave it behind.

Sux but hopefully will not happen to you again. I have heard that you are likely to get more pinctures if there is not much tread on your tyres. Could this be the problem ?

I may have to try that. I know I'll most likely be carrying a tire panda from now on.

Regarding the tread: That's the thing that confuses me. There is heaps of tread on them.

Hoping someone will chime in with advice on what repair kit is best,have seen one advertised with the little cannisters etc that looks nice and compact.

I got a repair kit with the co2 canisters and the dog turds etc for about $30 after I had a puncture on my way back from Kaiaua, havent had a chance to use it yet but hopefully wont have to. Your local bike shop should have them in stock, I recomend you get one.

Worst puncture I ever had was a front tire suddenly deflate while riding downhill, around a corner, In pouring rain, at an obscene speed well over the posted speed limit. Was great fun.

Pumped her full of tire Pando and hit the road again, then hours from anywhere, she failed, we ended up pulling off the front wheel on the side of the road, Then I jumped on the back of my brothers bike and road an hour to the nearest town HOLDING ONTO MY WHEEL.

Madness, we then had to bully the local tire man into fixing it, then we repeated the ride back to my bike.

All in the pouring rain, and now it was pitch black. We found my bike, Bolted the front wheel on, and rode until we found a motel.

Nest morning, still raining, But with big smiles on our dials because the mammoth effort of the day before was over, we hit the road.

35 minutes after leaving, I performed a cunning passing maneuver into a fence, My bike is bashed to bits and I'm strapped into an Ambulance on my way to hospital.

LMFAO.

Greatest trip ever.

Found the problem. Taken the tire off and there is what looks to be cracks around the inside and one crack had a small hole in it. Looking at the spoke protector I'm not surprised either so.

On with a new tube and a new spoke protector and I'm looking forward to clocking up a few K's finally.

Yes 98tls, would be interested also as to what the majority reccomend as the best puncture repair to carry. Years ago (and I mean years ago) used to carry a tyre pando can that came in a little container that handily could be strapped to the handlebars of the bike. Do you have any idea how hard that stuff is to remove when the can explodes in the sun:Oops:

I have a very small compressor and will be carrying both the rope plug repair kit with scredriver needle style and a rubber injection rivet gun style kit.

All bits and pieces I picked up in the states.

Compressor will run off the powerlet - ciggie lighter cable.

I will try to stop if see anyone with a flattie on my trip around new years. :yes:

The first trip on my new to me bike after being in cages and trucks for years i got a flat rear tyre. :argh: .. Out SF70 after riding down from Tokoroa lucky i was with some mates in 4x4's, one had a little compressor :clap: so we pumped it up.... and it dd not go flat the rest of the day. :crazy: . go figure! As soon as i got home i went to repco, bought a foot pump, patch kit, tube hopefully not wrecker levers and two tubes of green slime stuff. Stuck the anti puncture tyre slime in and no problems since... Hope the tyre slime is not a really bad idea.... but being road/trail i figures it might help stop LONG walks.... :eek5:

As my ride style usually sees three trail rides to a rear tyre i figure if its a bad thing to do, a new tube can go in with the new tyre!

Any bad storys on slime????
