Having a bit of a xmas piss up here tonight after driving from Te Anau to Ch Ch and then back to Oamaru, ive done some big trips on my old TL and can without a doubt say that my arse has never been as sore as it is tonight, its actually preferable to stand and drink piss, electric seats and all no matter what i did it made it no better, ive another big trip in the car coming up so anyone got any tips? (besides take the bike) as in sheepskin etc,do they work as good as they do on a bike seat?

laffing your getting soft in your old age mike :nya:
.. I have no issues when i use the sheepskin on Betsy .. after riding from chch to shannon in one day was only the last few ks that my ass started feeling a wee bit twitchy .. rode on sat without one & after a hour on the bike my butt sure was feeling it .. :eek5::whistle:
I know for others they find the sheepskin does not work .. guess its one of those things you have to try to find out
in the truck I do not use anything else & can drive 5 hours straight & am fine

What sort of car? Usually with cars I've found once you've got a few kays on them the seat moulds to fit your arse better - but they all feel hard to start with. Way back when I had sheepskins in my Hillman Hunter, but that was back when vinyl was the material of choice by NZ car assemblers and it was OK but tended to wrinkle up and stuff like that so these days I much prefer my seats as they come.

not sure what your driving but im guessing not a ford fairmont
ashburton to nelson and its like a 1 hr drive
there so comfy
mines a 1996 dont know about earlier
nothing much to adjust on the seat ,lumber and tilt thats all
i could drive what you did in mine easy wouldnt even be sore
And fuels good in them to ashburton to nelson is 9.9 litres per 100 km
thats at 110 km and some passing not to much and still had 230km till empty 68 litre tank
Used to get 9.2 per 100 km but had a bore exhaust fitted and the cat removed so guess bit better performance now as well

BA XR6 Falcon merv, with all the bells/whistles comfort wise but to be honest ive done longer trips in an old XY Falcon and not suffered 1/2 as much.

The suspension in the XR6 is just too hard for long distances. We've got a BA Falcon Futura - plain as fuck but really comfortable for the Auckland to Invercargill trip!

Don't think I've got the legs for it! I used to have to travel all over New Zealand with the last job - hired cars for long road trips. First one was a Falcon XT (Hokitika - Westport - Nelson - Blenheim). Nice enough. Next one was a Futura (Wellington - Masterton - Palmerston North - Levin - Hawera - New Plymouth - Auckland) nice and comfy. Last one was XR6 (Auckland - Tauranga - Whakatane - Gisborne - Napier - Auckland) handled better in the corners than the others but not so comfortable over distance hence the decision to get the Futura (was cheap as chips too!)

Actually mate the first time i took the ute down a gravel road with a bit in the middle i wished i had bought the XLS ute as the bloody thing is way to low for that carry on,very nice to look at but about as useful as a third ball on a greyhound. My mates a big bastard and it was so bad i was almost going to tell him he was walking.

Can you try something as simple as leaning your seat back further and try and take a bit of weight off your arse? The comparison to sports bikes is that on them you lean forward so while you might get sore wrists if you go too slowly you don't get a sore arse, so try leaning back further in the ute.

I played about with it today but nothing seemed to help although it was late in the drive, just bemused that after all the years doing big trips on bikes its a car that made my bum sore. Will play around with the settings with a refreshed bum so to speak.:niceone:

I use a thick sheepskin for longer trips ont he SV, it makes a huge difference for the SV which has a crap seat.

Hmm, plenty of people seem to have great success with sheepskins but I tried it when I had the YZF1000 and it did'nt do squat for me.

I just got back to Wellington a few hours ago after leaving Kerikeri this morning on the bike. About 900k's all up and just made 3 stops for gas. Man my ass hurts! I think I'll be flying next time..

Got sheepskins on the seats in the Pajero, and a lambskin for trips > 300km on the Ducati. Well worth the investment for both vehicles. The lambskin on the Duc gives me an easy 700-800 km range - more if I have to..., but without, then the raw arse feeling starts to set in at around the 500km mark.
Worst trip I've ever done for arse pain - riding from Kaikohe to Waihi and back (about 500k's each way + or - a bit...) in a weekend - on an IT465 with super tall gearing and road tyres. Like riding a paintmixer, sitting on a razor blade. Took over a week before I could sit comfortably again!
