This will be a cruisy ride for the newbie riders & those who wanna come outta the woodwork & join us for a pootle .. this is not a race & we will ensure that no one gets lost so there will be plenty of smoke breaks

Date: 2nd of Jan

Meeting point: Ashhurst garage

Time 10am, Leaving 10.30am

Destination .. basic thoughts for the ride are .. Apiti loop> Cheltenham, Vinegar Hill & Mangaweka for lunch .. from there we will see how everyone is feeling, May just scoot down state highway 1 til Halcombe turn off orrrrrrrrrrrr may explore back of Marton before heading back towards Halcombe > Feilding > Colyton road & end up at Ashhurst again .. it can be extended or shortened ...

however trying to organise a mid length ride as some ppl have not been riding very long at all eg 10 days ..

Calendar event here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1516&day=2008-1-2)

discuss away .. plans can always be changed ..

welcome girl ..just remember there are some really experienced riders in the area who can give you really good advice and I highly recommend getting some lessons .. they are really invaluable, just have to ask ... I am still a newbie rider as well, but I know how I felt on those first jaunts out ..

seems like a good idea. suggestion on slight route change though. Garry, Meanie and NZsarge and I were out that way last weekend and found a really nice little road from Kimbolton to the main road. it cuts off about 20km of the run but also cuts off alot of striaghts and is very scenic. go apiti loop, kimbolton, quarter way to mangaweka then turn left just before rangiwhaiaha (sp?). From there it is only 20km to the main road which comes out at Ohinghiti. Back down vinegar hill or maybe continue down to halcombe hill. It is a great road.

This was taken at the end of that road. That first left hander on the other side of the road has a fence post mighty close to the edge of the road. Don't cut the corner :)

be good to catch up as well

& I think a few ppl may need more than a days recovery but its a nice way to ease back into work the next day for a few

hmm now who is also attending the track day on the 5th jan .. $40 & great experience for sure .. I did one last yr & after my attack of nerves loved it ..

planning to attend again this yr & see if i have improved ..( & not get lapped by the leader) there are 4 groups race, fast, medium & slow .. the slow group has a leader top speed about 120 and you are not allowed to pass them

an opportunity to ride around manfeild track on your bike .. I went round last yr & it was my 6th ride on my bike .. traffic all heading in the same direction, great to practice some cornering stuff & to have a great time ..

its different to riding on the road .. but in a relatively safe environment to not have to worry bout all the cagers that want to kill you ..

even if you do not ride should come out & watch & meet other kbers

it is  it ... had an absolute ball last time & learnt a lot ... but you have to realize that track time is completely different to being on the road .. still i found it invaluable & felt it helped my road craft .. now if it was gravel riding that would be another story

Yeah if you're not sure bring a set of metric spanners but if you look at the rear brake caliper you'll see a nut with a hole at the end of it,that's the bleed nipple, it's usually a 10mm sized nut.

been thinking a bit today after yesterdays ride .. always working to build new skills when your learning on restricted or even on full .. am contemplating two things .. first one that I think cowboyz & I chatted about a few months ago .. suitable venue for a ride right ride safe course .. did this bout 6 months ago & quite invaluable regardless of experience .. so anyone know of a really really really large carpark that could be used for a day (weekend)

and regular 250 meetings to practice some of the skills we need to develop .. my full is in several months & I know controlled turning is one of those things I need to work on, along with counter steering .. perhaps some of the more experienced riders may help with this ?? or go to a section of quiet road & practice some skills ..

does this need a new thread .. whats your thoughts ?? pm me with ideas

Re bike skills course to run, have you got access to a large pub carpark on a sunday, thought the pub by racecourse had a decent one,or maybe I was pissed and seemed big lol.
We had a course run here last year and was held over weekend in pub carpark.Or not sure if it is sealed but the float park at awapuni racecourse.

chanceyy
30th December 2007, 19:24
the awapuni pub did n0t have a large enough carpark .. hmmm been a while since I have been to the racecourse though ... hmmmmm I think a drive round palmy north may be required .. need quite a bit of room to do counter steering at 40 ks .. or an industrial street that is not used in the weekend

hmm that could have possibilities .. but again may not be big enough for counter steering as you need to get up to speed .. at least 40 ks .. counter steer through balls cut in half & stop .. figure we need approx 300 - 400 meters .. will check it with "the stranger" though .. then we need somewhere for the classroom stuff both morn & aft as well ..

now that definately would be a plan .. its an all day event split into morning & afternoon with classroom stuff for first hour or so then ride .. break for lunch .. which will be byo .. thought I might make a choccy cake for it  then back to classroom for another hour before hitting bikes again .. so to end it with a BBQ so everyone can discuss it & ask questions in a relaxed setting sounds perfect ..

be good to see you mouse .. now let hope it does not rain

been thinking a bit today after yesterdays ride .. always working to build new skills when your learning on restricted or even on full .. am contemplating two things .. first one that I think cowboyz & I chatted about a few months ago .. suitable venue for a ride right ride safe course .. did this bout 6 months ago & quite invaluable regardless of experience .. so anyone know of a really really really large carpark that could be used for a day (weekend)

and regular 250 meetings to practice some of the skills we need to develop .. my full is in several months & I know controlled turning is one of those things I need to work on, along with counter steering .. perhaps some of the more experienced riders may help with this ?? or go to a section of quiet road & practice some skills ..

does this need a new thread .. whats your thoughts ?? pm me with ideas

Sounds like an awesome idea, I am in for this.

Might do a run round the coast to Opunake, have an aunty in the local resthome recuperating after having a kidney removed, awesome lady so will be good to see her better.

Hope no cops out there to spoil it.might be resting after new years eve duty, and doing arrest sheets today, even helped our local club president with a useless wanker abusing staff at 11.45 last night, the cops were doing the rounds and this dickhead was asked to leave,(abusing barmaids)kept argueing with the president he didn't do anything,we said the cops are in the outside part, wife grabbed the cops who proceeded to ask politely for him to vacate, did he do it nope, abused the lady cop so she arrested him, pissed me off as he was getting mouthy and saying crap to my wife, and a few ladies as well, was all talk, she said to the president can she hit him instead of me,(and have to go through judicial process), although when he stepped out of the club premises,I was ok to hit him lol.Hope he had a nice night with no lube and a neat flatmate called bubba.

everyone who has kept an eye on the thread so far knows where we are going

from ashhurst doing apiti loop, turn right on to kimbolton road .. turn left at prebbleton out to ohiniti (however that is spelt) down to hunterville for lunch/fuel ..
& I hear you know this route very well since you showed the crew the other week ..

& I know the route after lunch .. kinda .. but it will depend on time & how the riders are feeling ..

Was wondering if you were doing that one or Vinegar hill. If you take a right onto the road just past the golfclub out of Ohingiti that road is nice and runs almost all the way to Huntervillle. Its the one Simpsons reserve is on.

Personally if you going to Hunterville I would have thought Vinegar hill would be a better choice with a stop at Stormy Point. That other road has alot of long and straight at the start and is more suited to getting to Mangaweka.

Got some good ones too. Only shame about the cornering photos was the group was a little close together and my camera takes some time to click over to take the next photo so only got a few of the riders.

There was a w*nker in a darkish holden (I think it was) that was right up my backside on way back from fielding...eventually overtook thank god. He was really close just itching to get past.... yah. he tailgated Meanie for a while before pulling off some dumbarse passing move and cutting in on me real close before taking off. Fucked me off so I gave chase. Pity he couldnt drive and got to near 100km while watching him run oncoming cars off the road on double yellow lines. Caught up with the driver in Ashhurst gie way sign and told him what I thought of his driving and what I would do to him if I catch him driving like that around these parts again and what I would do to him if he took out a bike in the process of becoming the worlds biggest moron.

Wow .. wot a fantastic day .. just kicked back with a couple of KGB's that just about laid me out, & been contemplating the day with Rottiguy

all the newbies, new faces who turned up .. awesome guys, taking on board the plan for the day & riding to your own ability meant everyone had a great time

big thanks to dogs for scouting the roads yesterday & helping tony out when the battery died .. really could not have happened at a more perfect time .. close to dog's place & while he was tail end charlie .. perfect ..

Thanks to the Snr riders who got into the spirit of the day .. at times played tail end charlie & made sure all the rider were going in the right direction .. also enabled some of the riders could follow some lines .. excellent .. this meant a great flowing ride with few stops to regather.

Awesome pics there Cowboyz, Bandit rider, Garry H .. I will post mine later

Totally stoked with how the day went so thank you to each & everyone of you who turned up, rode to the conditions & your own ability .. hope to see you on some more rides soon ..

better to be wanted than needed is what I always say.

Actually, I never say that. Just thought of it then. Have to find a time and place to say it and then next time I will be able to say I once said that.

Or something...........

I gather it was you guys I saw waiting at SH1 & Otara Rd in Ohingaiti? Seemed like you had quite a crowd gathered and a few catching up down the road? I recognised the Concours coming toward me from previous ride pics. There was also a yellow Daytona with another bike quite a way in, I passed heading in the opposite direction. Were they with your group?
Oh well, it sounds like you guys made a good day of it with no dramas. I got two hours to myself and made the most of that!

For sure! I'm just pleased I got out at all. Also glad Otara Rd seems to be free of pea-metal now. The last couple of times I'd ridden it, it was a little hairy down the hill and bends toward SH1.

Bloody good ride and such a nice day as well, We rode some roads after Ohinighti that id never been on but i have to say my favourite piece of road around here has to be between Kimbolton and Rangawahia, awesome flowing corners and apart from the traffic, its always predictable.
Realy good to see some new faces yesterday and some that we are just getting to know.
Thanks Dogs for playing mechanic, Chancey good turnout and great ride
And as always a pleasure to ride with some great company
