For about the past 15 years I have had a back injury that stops me for doing certain things. This last year its been really bad. It got to the stage where I was going to physiotherapy twice a week for the past 6 months.
Any longer then 40 minutes on my bike and Id start to ache.

Now heres the point of this post.
For Christmas my mother gave me a “Lambswool Magnetic Underlay”. I slept on it last night and when I woke up in the morning, for the first time in as long as I can remember I stood up straight away and didn’t walk around hunched over for half an hour.
Went for a ride today for about two hours and have never felt better.

It came from a place called “just as good as”. From what I understand they come out the same factory as the magnetic ones but are about half the price, about $260 delivered. www.justasgoodas.co.nz

This might seem like a pretty pointless post to most of you but I am blown away by what this has done and if you suffer from back pain you’ll understand.

I was born with an acute lower spinal condition which has affected every facet of my Life and always will despite finally having my final corrective surgery 3 years ago.
They had to remove my spinal cord("hairs") from 3 vertebrae in 4 different places before breaking my back to realign it and a number of other delightful things during a 13 hour operation.
Best results from it all is that I no longer need to take vast quantities of morphine daily therefore I can think a lot clearer plus my spine has stopped slipping any more due to vast quantities of titanium screws/plates...:niceone:
Most people that have met me have no idea as I try never to show it(my pain).
Riding absolutely blasts my back especially on my SD-R which KTM thought it would be a great joke to have a 4x2 as a seat!!
NOTHING stops me from doing anything...ever. It's 90% in the mind.
I am legally classed as an invalid...I fucking resent the title with a passion!
Even growing up I never allowed it to rule my Life.
Rugby, rowing and kick boxing were my passions and then I developed my motorcycling.

The under lays that you mention are superb and yes I do have and use one :niceone:
I highly recommend some Reiki (http://www.reiki.org.nz/) because if that under lay is helping then I believe you'll find that you pains are muscular and nerve based. It has really helped me from time to time.

Any opinions/advice you need in handling day to day Life feel free to ask.
Above all...strengthen your mind as all else will follow.

It's the lambswool in the underlays that makes the difference - the magnets are total hokum.

I've had back problems on and off for the last 30 years or so, aggravated in the last few years by arthritis. Nothing to compare with my mother-in-law, who's had 3 major operations to fuse discs, and put metal rods in her spine. We were talking about this a few minutes ago. The vifferbabe and I are curently sleeping in our son's room, on a very old (and hard) double bed, while the in-laws have our room and ensuite, and fantastically comfortable bed. My mother-in-law said our bed was fantastic - even better than theirs, which is newer. But my back is fuX0rd again, and getting worse each day (I didn't tell her that - didn't want her to feel guilty). Our bed feels really plush and soft, but it's actually really supportive, with a "pillow top" on the mattress that makes it feel soft. One of the best buys we've ever made. :)

Better make sure your on the pill, ours turned me into an 18 year old overnight.

Now I am married to an older woman!

Well that was "one" night anyway.

Didn't make any difference to my back pain but everyone is different, good luck. :blip: John.

Ditto on the shagged back. Have thought about trying a mag underlay, so thanks for the input.
Scummy put me on to Glucosamine tabs, and they seem to help. Also Salmon Oil is said to be beneficial.
The Daytona cripples me after each ride, but the Scrambler is a pleasure.:scooter:
Reiki sounds good also. Guess I'll have to wash my feet every month though.

I have numerous aches and pains throughout my body from years of physical abuse, mainly my own fault. Physio tells me "Don't play the rest of the season, rest that knee!" I played. I hurt. Still. I have 2 bad knees, a sore back, munted ankle, stuffed wrist, sensitivity to bright lights. It sucks.

Anyway I went on a martial arts seminar hosted by a guy called Ian Waite. He put me onto some natural 4000 gauss magnets and a meditation DVD. You do the meditation for 10 mins every morning while standing on the magnets and after a couple of weeks you start to feel fantastic!

Some people can't handle the full "imersion" that a magnetic underlay gives you. A friend of mine gets nightmares if he sleeps on them.

If you can't handle sleeping on a magnetic underlay like my friend give these magnets a go. The link is http://www.roaringlionpublishing.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RLP&Product_Code=MQGP2&Category_Code=

BTW if anyone decides to buy these, don't whatever you do let them stick together! You can't get them apart! Keep a book or something in between them. You can put one either side of your thy and they will hold themselves there. Don't get your fingers caught in between either. It hurts.

I might try that. Magnetic underlays give me tinnitus and double vision.

Ok, so last night was the second night I slept on my new underlay.
First night: Very hung over, had 3 very funny dreams (like waking myself up laughing types), woke up feeling refreshed and no pain (amazing!)
Second night: No dreams ( :( ), went to bed with sore hip, woke up with no pain in the hip or back!! Amazing!!
Being a skeptic, I'm not putting this completely down to the underlay (magnets), but I may be forced to change my mind and say it's fantastic if I go a whole week without waking up in pain, so will report back soon!!

i broke my tailbone 5 years ago, then twisted my lower back badly at work about 3 years ago. the combination of the two gives me daily (sometimes crippling) pain, however i just try to deal with it and not complain too much. the worst part is very bad tranferred pain to my right hip - i had an MRI on it 6 months ago but found nothing....

i occasionally use NSAIs like Celebrex or Bextra (if i can get my hands on Bextra - it really is the BEST stuff) but the best relief is swimming and/or kayaking, and doing crunch sit ups - i really need to build my core strength back up - especially as i want to do another Ironman, and core strength is imperitave for cycling/running.

You're very right about the core strength training. I have one of those big balls that I stuff about on when my back and hip play up and find the more I do it the less my bits aggravate.

I have had lower back pain since a car decided to try and flatten me several years ago.
After some physio, i was back to work hard out, but felt the continuing niggle in my lower back.
I could go for months with no problems, then turn the wrong way,or lift the wrong way and bang, flat on my back for a couple of days min.
For the past three years I have not been in regular employment due to depression, so phisically I was a whimp

This summer I started work in a Vineyard as a casual.
Bud rubbbing at first was terribile, bent over walking 1/2k long rows. Covering up to 15km per day in this position
For the three days, I couldnt move after work, but I kept at it.
over the following weeks, the back pain slowly dissapeared.
I am now wire lifting the vines, 8 hour days, Its like lifting weights non stop.
I feared that my back would do its thing and flatten me like a train, but to date it has only got better.
Marty, your comment re the strengthing of the core back muscles. AMEN!

Hard continuous work seems to do wonders, as the body adjusts to compensate. The bonus to all this is I can now ride my Xsessive for more than 2 hours without pain, sore legs, sore arms, and tingling fingers after I get off. Great!

As for the underlay, I have been looking at purchasing one, and will be keen to see the reports from you guys as time nears winter, when I plan to buy one.

As a note, I,m 50yrs old, and are 75Kg , so dont carry any excess weight'

If you dont use it you loose it.
Now to try and get the leg muscles strengthened

I do graphic design work for the NZ importer of Beurer Therapeutic Products.
It's a small business operating out of Lower Hutt. The products are German made and of top notch quality

If anyone is seriously interested in acquiring a magnetic underlay, just PM me for details. I am party to serious discounts. Delivery to anywhere in NZ.

Cheers,
Richard.

So been using the magnetic underlay for a while now, and I love it!!! Even the hubby likes it, especially after soccer training when his legs are sore but fine in the morning!!!
One question.... does anyone else find that their bottom sheet slips constantly to one side? My boss bought one also and she commented that her bottom sheet moves all the way to her hubby's side, ours goes towards my side, but was going to the hubby's side before we turned the underlay around.... very strange!!!

Tell me about the Biomag Magnetic Underlay anyone? And how does that compare to the Contour Cloud Sleeping System from Guthy Renker?

I have never tried one. However I considered buying one a few months back. However when I researched them I came to the same conclusion as vifferman. For the magnets to be strong enough to have any effect on your body theyd have to be strong enough to attract a metal bar from quite some distance.

Also you can get a larger magnetic field by sleeping with an electric blanket on.

Ill be getting an ordinary lambswool one when I get around to it.
