Sorry guys (and gals)...
Just saw this on the motorway yesterday, had to post.. Its a V-strom DL1000 with an extra back wheel...! saw the lights coming up in my rear view mirror and thought he was towing a trailer... upon closer inspection, it was a completely modified DL1000.... Im impressed..:niceone:
Somone has gotta know this dude, bloody good effort for conversion..:niceone:
And yes, this maybe a little off topic, but theres no such site as kiwiTriker.. (though there is a kiwitrikers..doh).

There are some pretty innovative machines out there!
The good thing is that they can help our buddies who can no longer manage two wheels to get back into biking.
I wasn't just meaning old farts like me but those who have been critically injured and incapacitated and prevented from enjoying motorcycles in the usual way.
So you say that that one only had an extra outrigger wheel rather than being the usual trike!
Can you find out more or was it, as you said, just passing? Cheers John.

Yes indeed, but do they have to be so ugly? Trikes are ugly, but a bike with a sidecar is not so much ugly, and more interesting. Not to mention cheaper. I guess you'd have a job attaching a sidecar to a lot of modern bikes though.
I vow that when I get too unbalanced or fragile to ride, I'll get a sidecar, not a trike. Shoot me if I get a trike.

It's hideous. I wish trike riders wouldn't insist that their perverted abomination is in fact a motorcycle.
It's a car with handlebars and no crash protection.

I've never really seen the point in either. Why have a bike if it doesn't lean, and takes the same road width as a car? I'd rather get an Ariel Atom, or perhaps a Chevron kit car. More stable, and you don't need a helmet.

There's no law against it, so it can't possibly be dangerous. Until it's illegal to apply make-up whilst driving I don't see how anyone can make comments about distracting events inside a vehicle.
Thanks for sharing that tsmj, but always remember - someone out there always thinks you should have done it differently, safer, better, and many of them are prepared to legislate, or support legislation, to make you conform to their arbitrary judgment of "safety".

Before you launch another misguided attack on me, please take a moment to educate yourself.
I would suggest you start by reading this NZ Herald Article (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1/story.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10414683). In particular
At least four fatal and 50 non-fatal crashes a year are a result of drivers being distracted while using cellphones, but police suspect the figure is probably much higher. That makes cellphones the second-biggest culprit, after passengers, in a list of in-vehicle distractions that cause crashes.

I have to agree with John on this one. I always give the guys on trikes a wave. I treat them like any other rider. As John points out, we may not know the full story behind the rider, (riding/steering the trike)
I have a couple of decent cobbers that ride trikes. Due to accidents and old age, They are just not able to ride a two wheeler any more. A great case is Robin don't know his last name he's from Parmy North.
He must be in his mid seventies and rides a trike. He says he would dearly love to be back on a bike. But due to his old bones, aches and pains he is just not able to do so.
Don't be to hard on the trike fraternity, as all of us guys will be old one day or just not able to ride a two wheeler due to an accident or the likes.
You can shoot me down in flames guys. But I think that common sense should prevail before you do. Have a happy new year one and all!!

Hey Forest, appreciate the concern, but a quick point of the camera and a click to get some video is slightly different from focusing on a screen and keyboard to text a message. That is just plain risky.
Though I suppose the real risk was the McDonalds I was eating wth my other hand and the paper I was reading over the steering wheel whilst driving with my knees :shit: (was a joke by the way...)

I think that using the Herald as a reliable "source" takes the wind out of your argument. I'm not denying it happens, but find something legitimate to pour your energy into, like the Cheescutter campaign. I just can't for the life of me see why you've taken issue with a couple of snaps from a cellphone.
I'm not misguided, merely fed up with with "Old fartism" trying to suck the life out of the world. I used to be an old fart, but thanks to KB I've seen how your kind of personal attack on individuals actually proves to be counter productive in the long run.

Actually, before you all sound off and completely embarrass yourselves, take a well built trike out and give it a good thrash. You will be surprised at how quickly they can be pushed through the twisty stuff by a skilled rider and especially in the wet. Sure, the power to weight is down a bit on the bike from which they are derived, but they have heaps more rubber on the road to compensate.
I understand that they are an acquired taste and personally, I have no wish to own one. Further, trike conversion is expensive and so the end result is always pricey when properly done. However, don't underrate their capabilities. We don't often see one being pushed, but that doesn't mean that it can't happen. You might just be surprised by the outcome when it does.

Hi guys, did anyone find out about this? I was looking at a trike. I have an injury so have to ride one, we can't all do two wheels. I can ride a an auto bike with hand controls only but supporting one with my left leg is pretty hopeless on wet white paint. Getting it up on the stand can be difficult if not impossible and I reckon if I can't do something right or safely I shouldn't do it at all. I am now looking at an outrigger kit. Does anyone know of one which is legal in New Zealand for under 250cc as I have done the handling skills test but not the motorcycle learners. Transit doesn't seem to know and the LVVTA is having trouble letting me know if they are legal or, as when finished they will have 4 wheels if they are registered as a car or bike. I can only get one for a 400cc for the Burgman which is the smallest they make. Our restrictive laws make things really hard here. I was looking at some overseas websites and they are so less draconian than ours. Any positive feedback is appreciated. I have looked at trikes but a second hand 3 wheeled goldwing for 40k doesn't really appeal.
Thanks

Have at look at Trinity Trike (http://www.trinitytrike.com/roadster/index.html). They make trike kits for the Hyosung GV250 - the pricing's a bit obscure, the basic kit is US$4000 but that doesn't include wheels, tyres, and fenders (which look like they'd add approx US$2k to the total). They also make trike kits for bigger bikes and sub-250cc runabouts as well.
