anybody know any fuel additives to clean carb

Ive got a YB 125 yamaha it runs well but wont idle without the choke. Tank looks as if it been left empty for years and you can see soon the rust will take over. My other bike has a plastic tank and I need one for the Yamaha. I have a one litre plastic tank that I was hoping to put on the bike temperey and put some concoction of fuel and cleaner in. Any suggestions

Agree entirely, but then when its running normally and you want to keep it clean us old fogies used to put Redex into everything in the 70's not sure if you can buy that now but check Repco out there must still be other fuel additives to keep carbs clean. However, once you've dealt with the rust any additive might just be a waste of money.

My first bike was one of those.Frosty had me shaking my fuel tank for ages with fish tank stones and meths in it. He took the carb out and cleaned it.
We then fitted a fuel filter in the fuel line just to be sure

Pilot jet which is the smallest one down the tube when yo remove the float bowl. Flat screwdriver to remove. Blow through, never poke wire. No question.

There are fuel tank sealers like Kream & POR15 but they are involved & cost money. Worth it on a cherished bike. A fuel filter after a clean might help if not too bad, but often scale is to thin for filter.

Heya Craizin, I have a gpx that was running rough and not idling properly up till last weekend. After some advice from the kawasaki forum I went out and purchased a bottle of "Nulon Petrol Injector Cleaner" from Supercheap...about $12.00. Anyway 1/2 a bottle qwent into a jerry can with 6 litres of petrol, mixed it up and into the tank. Now my bike is purring...it is idling properly and does not bog...
...Worth a shot if ya want to clean some of the scum outta your fuel system

Also follow the advice of the others...strip down your fuel cock and clean it!

thanks guys for the advice. The rust is fine dust. and theres a small sediment bowl that Im cleaning out twice a week. I also rev the hell out of it and put my hand over the carb mouth for a second or 2

Yeah most of my old Suzis have done that. POR-15 or Kream is the only solution. At any decent bike shop. They have rust neutraliser, rinse & a setting agent. Have tried earlier methods & no where near as good.

Have to take out & block up fuel tap with a plate of metal & 2 holes for the bolts. Also find out how the tank breaths & that will have to be cleaned out after & the filer tube has a hole in it. Takes about a week to dry.

Rev & cover method won't always (often?) work, some jets are pretty small.

I have just got some of this stuff for my Max , will be riding it on tues so then this stuff will work as imported it from japan and has been sitting awhile:headbang:l
