I have a '95 ZX9R that, "for some unknown reason" had been left on last night with the light on and today before work I found it completely dead.
After not being started for 11months the bike ran sweet after a quick service (ie I've been riding it for the last 2 weeks).
Is it okay to just jump start the bike and leave it connected to the car battery for awhile to charge it up abit?
The serial/number/model thingy of the battery says ytx12-bs, So I'm "guessing" its 12v?

As hard as the I had the Mrs pushing .. there's just nothing left in the battery. We tried push starting it about 5 times, before we admitted defeat. I'll give it a jump now, fingers crossed.

If you don't need to ride it right now - charge the battery on a batt charger... Bike electics (esp jappanese) are way more weedy than cars

I've jumped it now, and took it for a 200k ride up and down the motorway a few times.
Will I still need to charge it?

Bikes often have shunt regulators. These are easily destroyed by careless jump starting or recharging if the battery is left in the bike.
Best idea - remove the battery from the bike, and charge it on the bench. If you must charge it while it is in the bike, always remove the earth lead.
To jump start a bike you should :
- connect the donor battery in parallel with the bikes battery,
- wait a minute to allow the bikes battery to gain a surface charge from the donor battery
- start the bike, then leave it running for a munute or two for bike battery to stabilise
- remove donor battery
If your donor battery is in another vehicle, it is best if you don't run the other vehicle. This is because your bike may have a shunt regulator, which will attempt to regulate the donor vehicles electrical system. It may cope for a short time, or it may just fail !

Never jump start a bike with a flat battery, and if fact never push start a bike with a flat battery either. The reason for this is the bikes charging system is not designed to charge a flat battery, only to keep a well charged battery fully charged. You run the risk of burning out the regulator, which in turn causes the alternator windings to burn out, the repair costs for this little exercise can be 100's of dollars. If your battery is flat, take it out and recharge it.
