After what seems like a Boom year for KBers starting racing...who's keen to give it a shot this year??
What are you plans?? Ie: bike/class wise??
and what are you hoping to achieve?

For me , not interested anymore, high costs little return ie a few laps a couple of times on race day............ya fucking what? as well as what I see as poorly run events being to often the case.
Trackdays are where its at for this fella:woohoo:
Good luck to those that race though, Im there to watch

Mate I retired from competition at the end of 1984 and never renewed my competition licence after it expired mid-1985. Road and adventure rides are where its at for my old bones these days when I have time. Don't mind watching young fellahs race though of course.

Would like to give it a go... Might put some crash bungs on my Triumph and take it up to one of the track days in Timaru/chch.
Gotta buy a new work vehicle in the next few months... tossing up between a station wagon and trailering the bike or just get a van...

If someone wants to give me a bike, race leathers, a tow vehicle and trailer I will  Seriously.
But seeing as how that's not about to happen, I'll stick to being a spectator and fan of the big kids.

I was going to race but i think i'm just gonna buy all the gears and do track days; every track day i can.
That way i can keep the expense down and still learn everyone

Track days are great and I enjoy getting on the track, but I love the satifaction of getting in a race battle with someone on the track. Trackdays can't provide that satifaction for me.
plus you can't say to the chicks that you race if all you do is track days!

2nd January 2008, 13:36
Yep, I'm thinking about it. Most likely a 600 of some sort in the Vic Clubmans class. After a few years of racing buckets in Aussie, it will be good to get on something a little less cramped and take some time to learn how to race it properly. I'll do plenty of track days too, but small steps for this year if I can get it all organised, and then look at something a little more serious for '09.

Yep going to drag my old bones about on the recently aquired Honda. The street racing is what i am looking forward to the most but have to do the track part first before i can.Looking forward to giving it a go instead of watching.:wari:At my age combined with what i will be riding i am not expecting wonders but am sure i will go out there and have a ball.Kind of feels odd that after riding bikes since i was 9 years old i am basically going back to square one as far as the in/outs of racing go,got to admit after many bikes and thousands of kms over the years i sometimes find my interest waning but this has me well interested again and figure i will learn heaps so all is good,no doubt improve my road riding as well.

Need to find a derelict CB125 twin as that's what I used to race many moons ago.

I keep on thinking of coming back to racing, I always had a lot of fun. But, then once I factored in how much time and $$$ I spent against how much actual racetime, and the per minute ratio was high! I mean, how many actual minutes of racing do you do at a race event (multiply lap time by number of race laps). Vic Club almost had more time devoted to practice than racing!
Nats was always fun, but the weather was invariably crap. One year it was all rain at Puke and then Teretonga and not a lot of sun in between. The travel was an adventure in itself and last time I went with the gimp in his bus and Craig Sheriffs. The number of eggs that were thrown that year :)
Now, I engage in flying old warbirds. Its about the same per hour and you can have a lot of fun low flying and aeros
Having said that, I still have a lot of RS125 parts (like the BPS ignition) that I have to decide upon whether to keep or sell off this year. Mmmmmmm

Yeah I'm gonna give it a try, bikes nearly finished, sick of riding on the road worrying all the time.
Guess I'll start in clubmans
Would like to think I'd get in the top 3's at some point.
Can't not have a go then regret it later.
Bikes an 06 Blade
Traxxion AK-20 fork cartridges
Ohlins 46PRXLS rear
PClll
Full Akra race sys on its way
BMC race filters
Etc
Probably spent too much but hey, gotta have a hobby and still cheaper than a boat:crazy:
Going down to Manfeild on Sat to give her a shake down run, only done a couple of laps there,so will be very average I think.
Hardest thing so far is trying to get hold of PMCC to bloody join, may have to go with VMCC.

No idea about how to get sponsers mark? I'll give you an idea. Get a job, save every dollar you can to put into your own race bike (that you will have to buy), spend ages and lots of dollars getting track experience and race experience, travel the country going to different meetings (all at your own expense), start getting decent results, then maybe with the right luck you might get the right connections (networking) where a tyre shop will give you some stickers and a discount on tyres/chains/sprockets etc.
Basically if you want sponsers, they will want to see results. That isn't going to come without you spending your own money in the first place.

season 2.... If good enough (don't brake any bones) then onto a 600 for Clubmans A's
season 3...then look at racing in 2 class with the 600 in the winter series at the Vic club (More race time for ya buck)
Now just keep trolling trademe for a free or cheep 400cc bike :niceone:

Mrs Kendog. Never whinge about not being able to race in front of Bucket Racers. They give you a go on a POS commuter "tricked" out to look like pukka racing kit, and you like it, and then you get you're own and then pretty soon you're hooked and Mr Kendog is selling the GSXR to fund your habit, and then you start pimping the Ho-net out and it's a sad tale repeated over and over.

I'm keen as to start racing this year and have even had evil/nasty thoughts of flicking my SD-R and getting an ER6 or SV650 or maybe even just going for a cheap 600cc and down grading my road bike.
Minimum I'll be doing is a power load of Taupo TD's

The other option I'm looking at is to simply race/TD an older SD.

This yea i've managed to find someone who will sponsor me a little into starting some racing. (Five Star Suzuki)
After many hard hours in preparation i finally got my RG150 run in after its seizure and ready for the Taupo Spectacular, the day went well and i finish second overall for the day (missed out on first by half a wheel!! hehe) so finished with two second places and one first place. I'm pretty happy with that for my first race on the bike :) It's running pretty sweet and im looking forward to getting the VMCC winter series underway and anything else i can get myself enough coin to get entered into :)
I cant upload photo's twice so here's a link to some of the pics of the bike from the spectacular:

You almost certainly will take some time to adjust to the racing thing, as it is quite different to just going around a track at a good pace.
My pick would be that with your pace on that bike you'll probably be too far out front in Clubmans to learn much.
I suppose that you can always enter in to Clubmans if you think that the nerves will get to you, and then if you win first time out just jump on to the back of the F1 grid for the rest of the day. The clubs should be sweet about this.
Now your only challenge is sleeping the night before your first meet :D

Sounds like VMCC Clubmans is going to be as competitive as ever!! I've also decided to race this year, in Clubmans especially cos I don't know the track at Manfeild that well. Finally painting the fairings I got in early November which is going well. Not going so well is my motor which by all accounts will be cheaper to replace than rebuild after the blowup at Puke.
