In light of the killing of that poor 13 year old girl, are motorbikes too dangerous? I think they are. So much so that my bike is now for sale. I urge you to do the same.

Its just not fair on everyone else.

Yes. Yes they are. Very dangerous. Not many can hack it. You're doing the best thing. It's not for you. Only a few , a select few , can go out every day and look death in the face, and sneer at him (he hates that). Enjoy your cage.

how can an inanimate object be dangerous
its only the stupid choices the riders makes that make it so in many of the cases, not all.
More dangeous than a 15 year old learner in a Turbo charged WRX Subaru?

It the rider thats the problem
Not the machine

Ego/ Peer pressure/lack of common sence are the common denominators.

Why should not lesser breeds, without the Law, pay for the fun of those inherently superior to them? And what makes you think that bikers should have to be 'responsible' ? The little grey sheeple in their cages can worry about such things. We are above that. The privilege of rank.

Bikes aren't dangerous enough - get a car, fill it with five fuckwits in hoodies - add alcohol and a twisty road with some cliff faces and hey presto - gene-o-kleen (tm) Evolution you can see.

Good on ya RM - why waste one life when you can get a car and wast five or more?

Hey, i used to like motorbikes, very much, but ive come to the light, and I think you should think long and hard about why you endanger others lives every time you go on a ride.

16 hours ago - A man was killed when his car crashed into trees on the side of State Highway 12, near Opononi.
22 hours ago - A drunken driver went about four miles down a highway in the wrong direction before his pickup truck slammed into a minivan, killing a woman and four children and injuring three other people

I live 600 meters off state highway three just south of Kihikihi / Te Awamutu, the road was closed for hours yesterday due to a fatal accident involving three cars.
It’s the third fatality on the same stretch of road, due to cars on the wrong side of the road, in the last month – the last month! one was suicide, one was a drunk immigrant.

So you gonna give up driving cars as well.
Make sure you never play outdoor bowls – statistically it’s the most dangerous thing you can do – more people are injured or die playing lawn bowls than any other sport, more deaths and injuries than motor bike riders too.

No. People kill people.

Motorcycles kill motorcyclists.

Most of you will be killed by motorcyclists if you keep riding a few more years. You should do as Mr Renegade suggests and sell your bikes.

rphenix
2nd January 2008, 20:28
Could have just as easily been a beach buggy, 4x4 or anything! It was the stupid rider not the bike itself that caused this. I would think for the most part motorbikes are actually safer for other road users (not for the rider themselves of course) simply because bikes are lighter and therefore hopefully have less of an impact in a collision.

The Pastor
2nd January 2008, 20:31

But the potential damage you can do with a 150-300 kg bike is a lot less then the damage a 1500-2500 kg car can cause. Bike riders come usualy out second best in accidents.....This guy was an idiot ..with or without bike.

that despite the accidents bikes like Harleys and Triumphs are selling
in record numbers. I guess the biggest risk is when someone buys a bike
and does not allow themselves sufficiant time to get to know how to handle it.

my neighbous just bought a 2008 harley( 1530cc ?) on hi learners, rides around like a fuckwit, no helmet, no gloves, singlet, gumboots, theres atleast 4 new harleys near me , must be the new toy for farmers and there extra payout

wingnutt
4th January 2008, 20:05
gidday,

It's the rider of the bike that is dangerous, not the bike itself, its the decisions a rider makes, that makes the bike behave the way it does. it is on very rare occasions that machinery is at fault, and even then its ususally caused, by maintainance issues.

I feel terribly sorry for the family and the lassie that was killed, but it was a dickhead decision that caused the accident, the bike didn't go roaring through the beach on its own.

selling a bike, because it suddenly seems dangerous, wont make dickhead decisions stop, maturity, and responsibility, learning to ride properly will.

Motorcycles are fun, and give a wonderful sense of freedom, but the rider of one has to realise, that that freedom can come with a ton of hurt very quickly indeed, if a wrong decision is made.

cheers,

wingnutt

What a load of Cow Crap, no matter how you ride or drive sh!t happens, if you can't live with dig a hole , get in it cover yourself up. from the time you are born you start to die, some people live for cars some for pushbikes and some for motorcycles, all are dangerous if you don't know what your doing, or you meet some one who is driving or riding who does not know what there doing,

If you lost your nerve then walk away, as yes you will end up splattered.

True accident can happen to anyone, stupidity can be avoided unless you are a retard and there fore should not be on a bike in the first place.

Too right............speed kills is a silly comment. 2kph is speed and could potentially kill a pedestrian but speed may not be the predominant factor.

The sad thing about this tragedy is that those who had words with the guy should have had the conviction and removed him from the bike and called the cops.......actions not words............instead they allowed him to carry on being an idiot, knowing that what he was doing was dangerous (which is why they spoke to him) when they could have saved a life.

That's the sad thing too......

In light of the killing of that poor 13 year old girl, are motorbikes too dangerous? I think they are. So much so that my bike is now for sale. I urge you to do the same.

Its just not fair on everyone else.

Another reminder that speed kills.
And it will be dangerous for somebody else. Burn it. It's the only way! Or for all the huggers out there............ cut up into small pieces and RECYCLE!

I think a few of you need to grow a sense of humour and realise RM was actually being sarcastic.

Very witty Scott. Yep bikes are dangerous.... a mate admitted to me a while ago that he was out polishing his bike in the driveway one day when it all of a sudden it viciously attacked him by falling off its stand and squishing him WWF style.

It may be a send up, but it also the crap some dam polo will use ti try and get them banned, you never heard of selective quotes.

Bikes are dangerous? 5 kids riding as fast as they could for 4 days solid.
Damage to themselves? A couple of scratches from tree branches.
One evening one kid smacks a skylite resulting in a rush trip to doctor.
LIFE is dangerous. Enjoy it whilst you can.

8 pages and Katman hasn't appeared. Just what is KB coming to? (sorry, Hitcher)
And as far as RM being controversial and a bad-ass....HA! There was a hole in the crowd at The Stranger's new years do that was shaped suspiciously like RM, and an odd silence that sounded like him when the OP's chatter went quiet....

example of selective quote

Transit Northern operations manager Joseph Flanagan said

Mr Flanagan said it was "not practical" to fence every motorway and highway

"The network is such a big network - what do you fence and what don't you fence? We are saying we are committed to making the motorway and state highway as safe as possible for all people, so we would take what we believe is the most appropriate measure."

even though he strongly supports the use of WRB and is one of the main opponents of there upgrading or removal.

maybe we should put this in the Cheese cutter section as it uses Flanagan words but one word is missed out the quote.
Just the way the Polos would use a quote
