Anyone know somewhere in Auckland that powder coats things? And how much they usually cost?
I wanna get my triple-clamps, heel plates and pillion pegs coated black.
Cheers for any relevant info.

i hear hp coatings are bloodey expensive though...most powdercoaters ive asked say i need it grit/ bead blasted first...as strip dipping will come up when they bake the powdercoat and stuff it.
yet i rang all the bead blasters and all said.....chances are it will pit the metal.
in the end i gave up and spraycanned my frame.<_<

well - i've used them, rather than heard about them.
you get what you pay for, and then the part looks sweet forever - and you don't have the fuck around getting it recoated.
the post was about a set of triple clamps - not a whole frame.

Does that depend on the metal? In a show I watched, all metal bits were being bead blasted, but not sure what metals they were using.

I doubt it.
Crushed walnut shells do a wonderful job as a polishing media.
I do a lot of shooting with blackpowder cartridges and always tumble polish my spent cases in walnut media.
The black powder burns the cases and leaves residue on the inside of he case. After a couple of hours in the tumbler the cases come out looking brand new.
I have also clean some rusty metal in this tumbler and worked a treat.

Are you takin the piss???? Serious questionNaw, they do it on olds cars and stuff... you can take the old paint off, whilst leaving the factory primer untouched. I guess it's just softer and doesn't rip through it as hard :)

Use Por 15 - it brushes on like it was sprayed and is way more durable than powercoat.
I coated my GIVI racks with it after the powder coat fell off.

Got a quote of $100 from HPC today for both heel plates, pillion pegs and triple clamps.
Now I just have to figure out how to dismantle the forks.

Don't get your exhaust powder coated- the stuff will come straight off again. Powder coating is a process where a relatively low temperature is used to melt and bake on the powder itself. Brake drums, calipers, rotor spiders and engine components would also be a waste of time. Excellent for frames, swingarms, forks, triple clamps, that kind of thing. Not great for panels as it's hard to get a super-smooth and consistent finish.

Is powder coating cheaper than chrome?

Is powder coating cheaper than chrome?
chroming is insane price you would get everything powdercoated for less than what your swingarm would cost to chrome
