Well I finally decided to set out this morning (early) to get into town before all the traffic started going crazy... (My second ever time going into town, and the only time I've gone there on my own so I was fairly nervous)

Got all geared up... Pulled my bike out.... And managed to finally get owned with my pathetic attempt at riding down the driveway at my old ladies...:laugh: Little bit hard on the brake, rear slipped in the gravel and down we went.. Oh well.. Good to finally learn what its like picking a bike up on a hill, managed it on my own after popping a hernia or two... <_<

Didn't break anything.. Just added a few more battle scars.. (to the bike mind you) Got myself together again after wise words from Allan and rode into town..

I managed to get my first WOF despite my handbrake light not coming on... (trust me to check everything except that) He just said to me to go home and give a the connection a looking over as soon as I got home... Time to tinker me thinks... (Thanks VTNZ)

Now for the registration.... :niceone:

P.S anyone got any tips that would help make lifting a bike up again easier when its on a hill?

Im guessing you mean front brake? Congrats on picking the bike up, its not too hard eh! I certainly had gotten used to it for a while there when I had my old KR!

Use the brakes when picking a bike up on a hill, it makes things heaps easier, instead of the bike moving whenever you try to push it, it acts as something to push against.

Yes, front brake... Blonde regrowth showing through.. *sigh*

I find it really hard sometimes... Til I get angry at it... Then for some reason my temper tantrum makes the pain of trying to lift it back up again easier...

Big strong Arnold muscles?

I dunno if it helps but I'd hold the handbrake lever in and get a grip under the seat on the frame if possible. Get your feet in close to the bike, bend your knees and lift using a straight back. That's about as far as my help goes...?

Mmmm, gravel...

To pick up the bike: leave it in gear, squat on the business side of the bike, facing away from it with your arse against the seat. Reach back and grab the handlebar with one hand and something behind the seat, down low, (rear guard?) with the other.

Push your arse into the seat and straighten your legs, lifting with both hands.

Helps if the bars are turned so the grip you're holding is close to your hip.

Put it over on the lawn and try it, takes bugger all effort. Does help to stop pushing before the bike falls over onto the other side though.

Your legs are indeed way stronger then your back!!! so leaning over the bike to lift it back up is not recommended...You got not much strength or control, and its lethal on your back!!

Now you see why people always comment on the weight of bikes, and try to make em lighter.....:msn-wink:

Imagine falling over with a big cruiser....:p

I reallllllyyyyyyyyyyy don't wanna do it again.... lolAt least you didn't drop it at the testing station like I did.

I feel the answer is often more power, but not more speed.

Apparently, one of the commonest causes of Tokyo traffic jams is little japanese persons dropping their big bikes and not being able to pick them up!
