I love biking, any kind of racing sport. And anything which involves high risk of hurting yourself.

But I have a serious fear of blood. I cant look at it without feeling weird..what should I do to over come this?

Expose myself to horrible decapited pictures of people in road accidents? Stare at them for hours on end or will this just haunt me even more?

See a specialist? what kind, I wouldnt know where to start looking..

Hypnosis?

Have to get over this for the type of career I want...;)

Come out for a shoot sometime, and I'll talk you through gutting a goat.

Once you've cut out the still-twitching heart of a dying animal and held it, dripping, in your bare hands, ickle cuts and scrapes don't seem so much of a psychological barrier.

I know the odd Nurse that hates blood. Freaks out around it. Not all nurses work in hospitals you know. There is plenty that work in mental health for example.

What are you planning to do?

Of course, if you don't feel like killing a goat, we could always just shoot a weasel.

Hematophobia - a fear of blood, fear of the sight of blood. Has been known to cause fainting, dizziness or anxiety. Typically triggered by a stressful situation associated with the sight of blood i.e. an injury such as a cut or an abrasion.

Quite common, really. Very funny watching the big tough guys drop like flies when they see it.

Whatever you find that works for you is the best way to cure yourself. It may be hypnosis (which is only suggestion), gradual acclimatisation or shock treatment - such as JRandom has suggested above. If it affects your daily life to a degree that you are unable function normally then I would suggest seeing your GP in the first instance and then seeking further psycological help.

I have a friend that is pathalogically afraid of needles, so much so that she had a major seizure at the dentists when he went to numb her up for treatment. She was sent to a neurologist for assessment before she was allowed to drive again. Turns out this girl is so scared of needles that her heart actually stops! The brain goes into a major panic as it is not gettting oxygen, hence the fit. Once she is unconcious the heart starts back up and hey presto she is fine!

She was cleared for driving as the specialist said that it was unlikely she would stumble upon a needle while pottling ariund in the car.....LOL and went out and got a t-shirt that said "yes actually, I am a draqma queen"

Blood kitty is a relative thing. When I nursed I saw lots of it, coming from some intersting woulds etc, never had an issue with it at all, as it was simply part of a problem that needed sorting.

My daughter used to keel over if she cut her self or saw anyone elses blood, she could not even get her ears pierced. This stemed from having a tumor removed from her foot when she was 10, leaving an open flap skin graft complete with drain bottle. Freaked her right out. The "cure" for her was having horses to care for, they get hurt and bleed, she had to deal with it.

Dude who worked in our butchery fainted at the sight of blood..... go figure. Cut himself one day and dropped to the floor at the sight of the blood. We joked we were going to buy him a potato peeler.
I hate the sight of vomit, the smell and seeing anyone puke make me dry retch, nasty shit, but I think it helps to condition yourself to it, go cut up a whole heap of bloody meat, you'll get there.

Considering you ARE a huge penis - their reaction is understandable!

Needles/blood used to shit me too, but like your daughter, Mom, I had one of those drain tubes and blood bags after an operation on my knee. Had the reverse effect. After seeing blood dealt with in such a... mechanical method, like a radiator hose connected to a water jacket, blood seemed less magic-liquid stuff and more something serving a mechanical purpose like oil or whatever. Not so scary.

Funny how one rationalises things.

Mum was a nurse, injuries and blood fascinated her (although she lacked compassion for the actual patient). But to see her own blood, or that of her children? Something else entirely

Ohyez, “Marrying a nurse can’t be a bad idea” I thought. Visions of extreme pampering and compassionate concern for the slightest scratch… A close social association with Caligula would be less fuckin’ dangerous. Your Mum can't have been a proper nurse, a real nurse would roll her eyes and tell you to HTFU when you'd just tripped over yer entrails.

Used to amuse the neighbours no end when visiting our place, a child’s faint wail in the distance would be heard, getting more strident as it got closer. "Who's that? they'd say, sounds like they're hurt". "Don't know", Mrs O would say, "but they're making a bunch of noise, so they're breathing. The noise is coming closer so there's not much important broken, and no serious blood loss, no doubt we'll find out shortly".

Broke my ankle once, she refused to take me to the ED ‘cause I’d embarrass her. :baby:

I have no real problem with blood having driven tow trucks for years and cleaned up some hell messes! :eek5:
At one accident late one night i slipped and cut an artery in my hand on a broken head light, taped it up and went to the hospital after unloading the vehicles, Of course by this time its stopped bleeding everywhere and the doctor did not seem to believe me that it would shoot blood and needed a stich or 2.
Being of a curious nature i guess he pulled at he wound while i was sitting on the edge of the bed and much to his shock blood jets out across the cubical. I laugh and say see told you!
Well then he freaked out, like really badly freaked out!
I start thinking hell this must be major if the doctor is freaking out and promptly pass out and crash to the floor:clap:
Really clever huh.... So the doctor comes back later after the nurse slips a few stitches in and says sorry, i hate blood....

thats like being a pilot thats afraid of heights!

How much blood does it take to make you uncomfortable?

To solve the problem i'd suggest giving yourself (or someone else) a small cut and touching the blood etc.
or you know man up and don't be such a girl :woohoo:

I had a similar issue with the stuff as a kid. Might of had something to do with having to hold my drugged out mothers wrists with my hands when I was 10 to stop her from bleeding out, and then having to do it again when I was 11 :stupid: . From that point on I felt uneasy with the stuff (go figure) until one day I thought to myself HTFU and you know what ? no problems since.

Yeah, what's up with $17 for two pieces of snapper and a couple of handfuls of chips?

Battered piscine fiscal rape.

Edit: And, just for that, I'm going through with the suggestion I made to Jody last night of hanging, skinning and quartering a goat from a hook in your carport in a couple of weeks time.

A mate of mine was like that, certainly a stereotype big tough guy.We were working opposite each other on a long narrow fabrication using 9in grinders, and as he released the trigger and lowered his grinder to inspect the work, the disc hit his thigh,he was in shorts. He glanced at his thigh and then looked at me - I could see what was going to happen as he appeared to be shutting down.I didn't know whether to jump over our fabrication destroying 2 days work,or run around it.I figured he wasn't dying so ran around.....he just folded in a heap out cold.

Another time we were at a party and some clown pulled a knife - so being the big tough guy he walked up and grabbed the knife....by the blade! Of course it was pulled out of his hand making a big cut.He took one look at his hand and fell to the floor.I had to pile him into a car and head for A&E.

Do you go to the one on the main road, or the one down the side street? Side street took half an hour to cook my order last time I was there.

Only takes 45 minutes to do a goat, but the photo opportunity with the bikes will be unmissable.
