Copy of a letter from BRONZ to the UberSnake. Asking for more red light runners to receive the same snakery attention as speeders. Cos the gubbermint says the two offences are just as bad (75 demerits each proposed)

Its the easiest fuckin way in the world for them to get their quota of contacts..... not that they have one :gob:
I mean Nodman has said in the past how easy it is to nab people at lights, kinda like shooting fish in a barrel, even on his massive BMW in white with POLICE on it people still do it right in front of him!

Sorry but that is a very arrogant and pompous letter and if I received it it would go straight in the bin. No way to approach this matter.
Okay Red Light runners are bad, however, the problem stems from the fact that the timing sequence give drivers a window to do this.
In the UK for example (sorry Ixion, Pomgolia) the timing is much shorter so running a red light is more than likely to end up in an accident. I myself was hit by a red light runner in London when on my bike. This would not have happened in NZ due to the timing sequence.
In Nz if you run a red light during a change the other lights will still be red.
This actually helps avoid more accidents.

Surely is. I have a friend who is a relatively newly annointed policeman. Being a young fella, a little heavy footed himself and not in the traffic division (so feels a little aggrieved at having to do "traffic duty") he gets called into the boss's office every now and then and told to fulfill his quota....eer sorry, client contacts.....for the month. Easy, peasy. Go to certain traffic lights in Aucks and he is done and dusted in less than 45mins (sitting there in a marked car!)

Bollocks
Fuckwits will run a red light when the last time they saw it red was about 50 metres before they entered the intersection.
"yeah, I knew it was red but I was that busy looking for other cars that I didn't realise how long it had been red for and didn't know the other lights would go green so quick".....
Said after a crash.
OR "I thought I still had a green" said shortly after he ploughed into a marked Police car going through on a green....

I know but just saying that there is a big gap between lights changing ie they both stay on red for a while compared to the UK.
"Bollocks" is a great word though.

some traffic lights are super dangerous tho, esp the ones where you can see a green light ahead of you, but before that is another red, caught me out a few times.

im not sure on the whole 75 demerits for it tho, 75 demerits, its just nuts.
Is it going to stop red light runners? I dont know. Is it going to be abused (i.e., late at night, bike cant set off the lights, no traffic) Yes, i almost garantee it.

I think you need to speak to your local authority, those things are supposed to be adjustable.
If I was going to write a letter to someone asking them to do something, I would have worded it different to that. On the face of it BRONZ are doing bikers a disservice.

Don't for a moment imagine that any approach from the despised motorcyclists would actually get them to do anything for us. And the National manager wouldn't actualy instruct the regions on a matter like that anyway, he's at a startegic policy level. Tis to put us on his radar (note pun) . And we'll see , six months from the date the changes come in, if there has been any change in ticket numbers. If not (which I imagine will be the case), then we (nicely) approach the Minister , and ask why not. No way are cops going to take any notice of the public. They will however take notice of Ministers.
If I can find out the Regional Road Policing Manager for Auckland I might write him a nice letter commenting on the good work done in the past by the bikie cops policing red light runners, and suggesting that as the gubbernmint view it so seriously, it should be increased.

Already been to court over this years ago. Cop said I should have waited for the light, or hopped off the scooter and pushed the pedestrian button.
Court said no, red lights can be ignored if faulty. And, as lights are supposed to change, if they don't they are faulty and you can legally apply right hand rule.
The issue may be one of timing - just how long do you wait before deciding the light hasn't detected you and can be legally ignored ?

One complete cycle past where you think the light should have turned green.
Red, green but no arrow, red, green but no arrow, red ... go.

Harsh innit - but I 'think' I'm OK with it. But then I actually stop for red lights much harder than most - In Aus they have had cameras on most major intersections for 20 years. Tend to jump on 'em.
At them moment it's laughable out there - it's like there is a rush to get in as many red lights as possible - before the bustin' starts - it's not the one 'borderline' that goes through - it's the 4 dipshits that nearly inevitably follow.
If I do stop 'against the flow' I make sure I pull well over to one side of the lane in case one of the dicks isn't stopping and has somewhere to go besides over me.

I don't want to go to court to figure out what we already know.

I dunno about in the real world, scumdog, but here in D'Auckland, it's kind of obvious that most red light runners have decided well before they get to the lights that they're not stopping, no matter what, whether they're amber or red. That's the time you need a sensor that fires an Exocet missile at their car, to make sure they don't make that same 'mistake' again.
