Hi everyone, happy new year, just wondering if anybody knows of any schools in christchurch where i can do my basic handling skills test that doesn't require me to part with my arm and leg? They seem rather extortionate to say how simple the test is. Some think i'll pay a hundie.
Cheers folks
Mat

When my so did his in Christchurch he paid $40, but that was 2 years ago......Best to ask the local AA, they tell you where you can go.Has to be an approved outfit, so not to much choice there I am afraid. It is part of the weeding out process, since the government doesn't realy want bikes and bikers. So it is being made increasingly more unatractive and expensive....paying more and more for that basic handling skills test is part off that "scheme"...
Good luck!:niceone:

It's not that steep dude. Besides, Mainland (http://www.driveschool.co.nz/Courses/Motorcycle/Basic_Handling_-_Learners_Licence/) has got a captive market as they're the only BHT capable people in CHCH. Apart from the AA, and they've got a 2 month waiting list I hear.

I've been waiting all holidays to get in there and sit my BHT, they've been running on a skelleton crew since the 20th!

Oh, and Foobin says "DEFINITELY pay the exta few dollars for the 15 minute warmup, as the bikes are quite bizzare".

Cheers,

If you can't afford to pay for a license, how are you going to keep your bike running?

The less I pay for my lisence the more I can run my bike.

Was hunting around on the web and including bike hire they want $150 in Auckland. Didn't find any in Chch.I have my own bike so won't need the hire but that only dropped it to $80. Will try mainland though. Thanks!

Hey Mat,
I got my learners about 2 months ago, went to Mainland for the basic handling skills test. It cost me about $45. It took me about a week before my booking came around. The only previous experience i had was on my XR200 and going from that to their gn250 wasn't a problem for me at all. Good luck with your license!
