This is always a GREAT rally! I've been going since 1994, and I've never been disappointed. Anyone who's never been? Rattle yer dags and get on down there this time! We just sent off the pre-rego this morning, so we'll be there with the usual bells on! Look out for the crazy, long-backed Canty-coloured jester's hat (with the bells on, no less) and come and say Hi. For those of you who saw it while it was actually vertical at the Burt Munro, that was me under there!

We're in Nelson, and will be happy to hook in with ya and ride down to Waimate, if you're still by yourself, or even if not and you still fancy joining in with someone else. You can either come thru to Nelli and we can go in thru Springs and on down thru Culverden, or we can meet you in Picton and drop down the SH1. Might want to consider hauling in at Christchurch for the night, as its a bit of a mission from Piccy to Waimate in one hit. Do-able, certainly, but you'll be knackered when you get there. We came back in one swoop last year and after the first seven hours, with a monsta raving hangover, it was starting to feel like a looonnnggg day! I lost a battery cover on the stretch of road from Murchison to Brightwater, and was too tired by then to even notice.
As for tying down on the ferry, buy a set of tie-down strops from the Warehouse or Super Cheap Auto and the guys on the boat will help you secure the machine.

:scooter:Well this will be my first, every year my father says how good it is, so this year I am joining him. I'm flying from Brisbane to dunedin to meet with my father especially for it!
Can't wait and if it is half as good as you all rave, then it should be awesome.
Are there any good day trips or such organised for the Saturday, and what is the best route back to Dunedin on the Sunday?
Hope to see some of you there!

There is a group going up on Friday evening and probably more on saturday if your want to join the group and ride up
There isn't an organised ride organised ride as such, but there are usually smaller groups that go out for rides at various stages... as well as the organised events... and the normal blobbing out, drinking and talking shyte to each other
There will be probably a group of heading back to Dunedin on Sunday... depends what you call the best and or how much time you have.

Thanks Nighthawk, I will keep in mind the group going up on Friday(where do you leave from?), I might see what happens on the Saturday, take a trip up coast possibly?
Coming back on Sunday I thought going via Aviemore and benmore, but wasn't sure of road quality, not keen on dirt roads, but just need to be back Sunday night to fly to Auckland for work Monday morning.

1st rally for both of us:2thumbsup :Playnice::innocent:
ooooooooo now THIS is going to be fun!
2 more rally virgins...
As fo times Subike, nothing for def yet, but the fri ride is likely to be early arvo. We will pick up the hire bike prob in the morning and head off after lunch I think.
Was contemplating taking the long way thru Rangiora and the gorges route to show the norf islander how it is. But that will depend on the weather abit. If its shitty or Norwester, that wont be a good route. So I'll let you know closer to time ;)

MY trumpy has been hurt!
Got a call from the rental place yesterday arvo to tell me it got dropped out in Governors Bay...went for a skate on some gravel. The fairings on the right side are scratched up and its got a broken lever.
The lever is easily fixed but the cosmetic stuff won't be done in time, I told the guy I didn't mind so its still a goer.
He is looking at buying a another one anyway so its 50/50 whether I will be on a scratched-up 07 model or a BRAND SPANKING new one!

well another awesome rally!
Friday's ride down was pretty good, a tad windy in places but mostly hot and sunny. Got down about 5pm to a brilliantly sunny spot in Waimate, raced to get tent up and gears off, and shorts and singlet on. Met up with some of the southern crew; Daffyd, Nighthawk, 98TLS, and northern; bent51 (nice to meet you at last)... oh I'm so hopeless, forgotten who else was there when we rocked up.
Then it was straight into the friday night festivities... while waiting for TWR and Chancyy to turn up... waiting, and waiting... eventually turned up about 9.15 after running out of fuel at waimate  1 km from the rally site.
Then it was alcohol and dancing and a wee bit of drizzle, and before i knew it, it was 2am and time to contemplate sleep. Esp after the band had stopped about 1.5 hours earlier and we had gossiped and waited for them to come back... but they didn.t
At least SOME of us got to bed then, others took a wee while longer to get there eh BB & 98TLS ;)
Saturday: woke to sunshine and a bit of low cloud, and thought kewl... that means should be good for the others. Rang home only to find it was STILL raining in chch and had been all night previously.... damn. Guess friday was the best day to travel.
Hit the supermarket for some tasty morsels for lunch, and proceeded back to rally site to scoff in front of all the new arrivals as they came thru the gate. What a great spot we had. Dry shed to party in, haybales to sit on and entertainment to watch all day long. The northern chch bunch arrived about 1ish and brought the damn rain with them. So we all sat in the haybales and watched various peoples attempts to ride thru the now wet grass/mud. Most were successful, and some had taken stupid pills that day and thought hooning was a good idea... splat. Oh well at least it was soft ground.
Saturday night was a bit of a repeat of friday, tho not quite 2am this time... I'm getting too old for that sorta shit now. But the band was awesum as normal... they are just a great mix of old and new rock, and damn fine entertainers as well.
Thanks to our very own BotB and Lil'M for entertaining us with their own style of show, along with all the other wet Tshirters. And big congrats to RON for winning the wet jock... sorry trevor you just dont do it for us mate ;) Tho u are still entertaining!
Got home today just in time for the southerly to hit and now its raining again. Oh well, down in the dry and back in the dry, with only a bit of wet inbetween, sound like a perfect rally all in all!
See you all next time, I'll be there rain or shine :bleh:

I had a great time at the March hare, went down friday night, so I missed the rain going down, there was a reasonable crowd there with our crew numbering about 10 at that stage.
The rain tried to dampen things down a bit on saturday with other members of our group arriving after a wet ride, we swelled to about 25 tents by evening and a great night was had by all, fortunalty we camped beside a hay shed so were in a dryer position than the other 2000 odd damp souls in the padock!
I rode home today, leaving as early as I could get packed, missing all the rain, wind and traffic arriving here in greta valley at mid day. Sweet run and the bike went well, so I had a 3 hr sleep to get the head a bit clearer and now I see outside the southerly has returned with a vengence, Wet winds and cold.
I feel for those riders doing long trips home today still feeling a bit seedy after last nights partying. Hope they have good wet weather gear.
All in all a really good time and are looking forward to the Hororata bike fest in three weeks
No story on what happend?
I'll leave that to the others,

A great flick there and a good one back. Dry and all. Tent went up well after getting the damn pegs in. Hard ground or what???
Same spot as last year, which was great with the shelter should drips fall, which they indeed did.
Did not seem to be as many as last year, though peep's do tend to get put off by forcasts.
Entertainment was good, both from the band, and the inhouse KB ramblings.
T-shirts were great....or are they better when they are not?
All the eating (yummy whitebait) and not sure about the wallaby pie?? they need a cert' of authenticity, tasted like any other pie I have had, then all the walking, me feet were feeling mighty weary, laying out on the straw bails was a relief, but that soon lead to an early entry to ones tent for a sleep.
Sunny awakinings, and pack and off and out back the way we came, for a clear haul up the inland scenic route, the Raikia Gorge was a little tamed due to some fella riden on the right side of the road most the way up, straight through all the corners in a go slow.
Home with the rain bouncin on the roof, and the first time we have fired up the fire.
Now will dash to the Hororata in a couple of weeks, and me-ander to the Off The Rails next Month.
Anyone know anything about the Mokihinui Rally this year????
Did not click the shutter to much this weekend.
NIce to see ya's all.

Then it was straight into the friday night festivities... while waiting for TWR and Chancyy to turn up... waiting, and waiting... eventually turned up about 9.15 after running out of fuel at waimate  1 km from the rally site.
 Dunno what was up with that coz when I filled up this morning the old bat only took 7.5lts  think something funny is going on with the towers on the fuel tap or it's got a bloody huge reserve and piss poor main:confused:.

well as you can see from Bill's post it did not appear to be running outta fuel .. but hey we got there & it was all good. thanks Mike & Gwen you saved me from my "putting a tent up in the dark skills" & at least we got it up before the rain really started ..
Awesome nite and  waits for "that photo" to be posted ... creamy & smooth huh Mike .. by the way .. Bill & I have a new nickname for you .. "slim shady" :killingme I know you guys thought you were being really quiet when you arrived back at the tents at 5am .. but sorry you weren't ... :nono:
great to catch up with familar faces and meet those that I have talked to for quite a while .. sorry for the trauma Mike .. my cleavage is still sore .. dunno if that is from the whiskers or Bill pushing ya head in even further
Kels great to finally say hi in real :)
and sorry to say I will be back .. that was way to much fun to miss out on ..
Canned muslim chicken:blink: ::clap: OMG that was one damn funny convo ... forgot about it til I read that ...
managed to have a dry ride down & got back to Bills bout 45 mins before the rain hit .. with the odd shower over the weekend really it was not as bad as the predictions earlier in the week ..

I'm far from a rally virgin........But its been a long while since I've been to one and about 10 years ago was my last (Canvastown Capers) so when a workmate offered me his Blackbird to go to the MH, I removed my self imposed "no roadriding" rule and acepted the offer. Its been 10 years or so since I've done any serious road riding.
I picked the Bird up on Friday night from Lincoln and road across town in the rain to New Brighton and wondered what I'd done, I didn't enjoy the experience or the bike, but put my gear in the luggage and strapped the tent on and went to bed with the alarm set for a early start.
I got up and had some brekkie and headed back across to Linclon to meet up with Johnny (bird owner) and his wife Ange who I was going to travel with, they were traveling on their mint '81 GS1000G. We met at their place and loaded some more gear on the bird and hit the road we headed to Rakaia to meet another couple.......Here some scumbag's turned up.
We headed up Tompsons track to go inland and finally I started to get what the Bird was all about, it chews up miles with no effort and is rock sold at any speed. we had a un-eventful but overcast ride through to Geraldine where we met up with the same scumbags, a quick chat and a coffee in Fairlie was planned. With some interesting and old tractors and cars on the road, the rain and loose gravel ment this section on a borrowed 150 hp bike wasn't one I hold high in my most memorable rides. but we got there a bit damp, the borrowed riding gear offered little in the way of waterproofness. The coffee was good comany same, except for the scumbags.
Fairlie to the Rally site was via Cave and the Pareoria Valley, this went by ok with a bit more drizzle and loose gravel. At the site the thought of riding a borrowed bike on wet grass and the scumbags were going to be perched at the entrance watching goobers like me with the morbid view of hoping to see some dropped bikes.
Camp Buddha was set up and the usual rally goings on proceeded. the Scumbags numbers had grown and the rain had started so we ventured to some stables for protection and proceeded to tell many lies. The Dyno was the afternoons highlight trying to guess Harley's PTO hp. One poor owner finding out his $47,000 Harley was down 20 odd hp on what it was ment to have and he appeared to be a little upset with the news.
Wet grass and bikes provided lite entertainment throughout the afternoon. The sun went down the bands did their thing and several scumbags tried to get this whiteboy to dance.............Failed.
In bed by 1am and listened to the ongoing entertainment.
Today dawned clear but wet under-foot we packed and headed home up SH1. The trip home, other than some drizzle just out of Timaru was under blue skys. I was just what the doctor ordered tootling along with others enjoying the day. Back in Lincoln the Bird got a bath and tucked up in bed.
Some things I picked up on this weekend:
-Most Harley owners are knobs and ride like knobs.......
-The Honda Blackbird is one cool scooter even with 110,000 km's on the clock.......would I own one? Probally not. I'm more a motard/ adventure bike sort of guy.
-If someone offers you riding gear to use, check if its waterproof.
-I don't dance even under pressure.
-Moro's are a good snack no as good while doing 100kph and wearing a fullface helmut.
-The March is now a annual event for Buddha.
-KBers are farken everywhere.
Reinstated my self imposed "no roadriding" rule. Thanks Johnny for alowing me to have the Bird for the weekend.
