I do find it quite amusing that quite a few people love slagging off harleys and the supposed types of riders who own them, yet seem to want to come to a harley national rally........
Snobby???? It is called the national Harley Owners Group rally.....is that any different to the Ducati Rally or the Triumph rally??
I think part of the reason that some people didnt rate the Auckland rally last year was that so many people went offsite and didnt attend the events put on by the Auckland chapter (It was a great rally btw).
Just my view anyway....

No slinging of mate, I know plenty of Harley riders up here in the Manawatu I ride with them often. Bloody good jokers. I think that you should get a bit more confidence and stop beating yourself up. Get rid of the attitude mate you are your own worst enemy thinking along those lines you mention. No one is slanging of at you or the likes. Lighten up your just another bike rider. I would ride with you and your mates anytime!! If I was invited to. But I doubt it would ever happen!!
Been to heaps of Trumpet rally's always see plenty of Harley riders in attendance. Everyone has a ball whatever bike they ride.
It doesn't have to be Triumph or a Bears bike either.
Went to a annual Hogly in CH CH a few years ago after attending the Triumph rally down South. But wasn't allowed in and turned away. The reason.... I was told was Harley owners only. I was riding a Triumph. So I came home the long way (as you do) It was the Hoglies loss not mine. I spent my dollars elsewhere.

I think it's fair enough.

I'm coming up from Canterbury. Probably going to take the long way up the west coast, weather allowing.
HoG is a Harley trade mark. The nationals are run by the local HoG chapter and the local Harley shop. You can come along as a members guest, but you wont be able to get a non HoG bike into the event as the bikes and the riders have security passes with the same security number. Also if you did get a bike in you wouldn't be able to get out.
The HoG nationals are a bit different from an other MC rally that I have attended. They are put on by HoG for HoG members. They have full catering, seating, technical seminars, guided tours, trade stands, entertainment, lots of bars, inter-chapter games and self guided tours. They are a lot more like a big Harley conference than a traditional MC rally, the HoG nationals are just 3 days of Harley fun for the members.
I thought the Auckland nationals were fine. Auckland is big with lots to do. Drop 1500 HoG members into Akaroa and the place rocks, drop them into Auckland and nobody notices.
I am really looking forward to the 08 event. See you all there.......

I ride all the time with Harleys and dont have an issue with them or the bikes in actual fact if the money was there Id get a VROD (as well as my trumpy) Ill use any excuse to ride and have something to do it just so happened I found our campsite and the Irish bar in Aucklands Rally more fun, more people, and more conversation. So for the Auckland one in my opinion it did sux. Was alot of money for some crap entertainment (cept for the tranny show lol) and every one looked bored. I call a spade a spade and that is my opinion which Im entittled too. I will be going to the next one because
A. I get to ride down from Auckland
B. Ill see alot of people who I wouldnt otherwise
It has nothing to do with what kinda bikes are/arent allowed or how others perceive those riders.

HELL YES man I went last year as I was riding with a couple of Buells, now they wouldnt let me in the gate, not even to see the missus, I bust in, I was arsed out, I was smugled in... haha farking ha, I wore my Honder Riders T shirt loud n prowd while I drank there beer and listened to there music.
If you go to a Buell Rally, Guzzi rally etc you are more than welcome in fact you may well win prizes, hell the Buell I road with to last years HOG rally won best non Guzzi at the Guzzi Rally... so yes HOG are very snobby.
Not only are the HOG lot snobby, but they are a, lets say.. different mob, I found it quite comical once inside, defnitly not my cup a tea, but it was worth the trouble just for a lough.

nah its cos HD Intl actually subsidise the costs of the rally, so its up to them who they invite to it... fair call I say

Been to 5 or 6 now I think?... last one was the first on my own bike into the rally site. 3 Buells at the site and all of em ridden by chicks ;)
The others I have mostly ridden to on my previous non HD bike with all the other HD'rs, and pillioned onto the site with one of the Stragglers (of which I am also one). And if you dont know who they are, dont worry about it... its a 'had to be there' kinda thing
The first Dunedin one was pretty awesome, someone tried to burn the kitchen down, and it was fkn cold, almost froze that night if not for the alcohol to keep me warm. Akaroa was one of the best by far, tho Hamilton was quite good as well... (might have been the fantastic crew at that one perhaps Buellbabe?)

Auckland wasn't the best, but still enjoyed it a whole heap as it was a weeks touring as well for us, so it rocked as a trip away.
And after all that cant make this years one... so all the guys that I know are going (Buellbabe, and the rest of you straggly bunch), make sure you have plenty of fun and booze for me. And its nice to know the guys will be thinking of me too!

What happened to the GN then? lol
Sometimes I wish some of the people with Harleys were more open to other bikes. On the other hand I've heard people with Boulevards ripping into Harleys. Sheesh. People seem to get along in NZMCG though, but no one has joined with a Harley lol.

Keep editing your posts Darryl.
--Edit--
Ok, he's deleted it.
If in fact you paid attention Dangerous, you'd have long seen the story behind the name, and if you had looked at our photos might have noticed the Harleys, and sports bikes owned by members.
Sorry for OT.
Yeah, if Harley is sponsoring the Rally (although $100 a pop per person and what.. like 1000 people there?) then fair call. Generally groups don't expect randoms showing up to their shin digs and drinking their piss, and I'd feel the same. :D

I can see both sides of the story but fall more to the side it IS a HOG rally for H-Ds, ergo only H-Ds there.
Sorta like how the Corvette Owners Club would not be keen on you going to THEIR national get-together in yout 2003 Corolla....or try turning up as a registered entrant at the Hot Rod Nats in a blinged WRX....
To carry it to extremes (I do that at times) why can't I attend the XXXX Rally in CB's '84 Laser? Cos it sez 'Bikes only' - Just like the HOG rally is Harley only (even the Aermachii (sp)ones!).
Horses for courses.

Yes indeed that is very true I posted the why do Harley riders fuck everybody of (including other Harley riders) with the racket they make with open drag pipes. I had plenty agree with me on that thread.
Now here you go again with "your" insecurity (often found with HD riders) I guess attack is the best means of defence. I have read your post a dozen times, and you write with very little authority and insecurity on the subject.
Oh well If that's the way you want to react. Then I am truly sorry for you having to bring up old posts to defend yourself. I suggest to you. Get a life, grow up.
And also suggest you buy another brand of bike. As you are doing more harm than good to "your" Hogly chapter.

Please enlighten me Huck....i am unsure of what it is you are trying to get at....if you read your loud pipes thread you would see I agreed with you as well...little authority? Its a thread about the HOG rally..let me see I own a Harley and am a member of HOG...that might make me a little bit interested in adding to this thread.
I couldnt care less what people ride..the mere fact that they ride is the best thing..again a point I have raised many times on the site.
I merely found it funny that there are some people who seem to delight in slagging off a brand of bike and then want to attend the national rally..no attitude, no grief nothing but amusement and somewhat curious. Would be curious to get an answer on that from someone here.
I am very happy owning my brand of bike Huck and dont need someone who it appears has a real issue somewhere with harleys (hence your signon name) to tell me what i should and shouldnt ride..maybe it is you that needs to take your own advice about growing up.
More importantly..looking forward to the Rally..it looks like a good setup....the ride around Manfield looks like a nice touch too....

Prove it. I've already written out a history of the term with direct quotes.
Harley Davidson owns H.O.G. as a international motorcycle enthusiast organization only, and HOG on the new york stock exchange. The "trademark" is only the main image used for the patch, and HOG used in the context of motorcycle clubs. It's no different then Coke having registered "cola" with what they call their "ribbon device" logo.
Copyright however is a different matter. Harley owns numerous copyrights on HOG related materials.
In New Zealand, copyright is instant. Anything you create is instantly copyrighted. I own numerous copyrights. The bigger issue with copyrights is archiving and proofing. In the event you need to show someone is breeching or plagiarizing you will need plenty archived as proof.

Don't let these guys ruck you up. Huck protests far too much, he needs to get out on the road and keep riding until he finds out what riding is all about.
Harley riders and HoG are an easily identifyable group and as such are always going to a target for others who get their kicks aciting like spoil sports. Just look at some of the comments in the cruiser page, the disturbing ones are usually made by people with no interest in cruiser bikes.
I look forward all year to the HoG nationals, it's a great event.:Police:

Well said Biggles, I don't ride a Harley but all of the slagging off is getting on my tits too, one day I'll ride a Harley, that's my goal!
To the others: if you are unhappy with a Harley event only wanting Harley's there, then you can fuck the hell of and organise your own event, where you can restrict access to those only with your brand of bike, I doubt whether any cruiser riders will complain.

OMG! Here we go again...
I will also back up what other HOG members have said... Harley sponsor it so its their party...end of story ... don't really see what the issue is.
The BNZ Buell Riders Rally is a private gig, no help from big brother hence other bikes welcome (but preferably in the company of a mate who IS riding a Buell).
Last years AK rally was great in my opinion and I have been to nearly all of them since 1992. The Auckland entertainment was top notch, the site was a bit stink but believe me they tried their darnedest to get something that fitted everyones needs.
Akaroa was a primo site but the bands were stink.
Everyone I know who has been around as long as I have all agree that the FIRST Wellington Rally out the back of Wainuomata was the best EVA! Brilliant in every way possible.
But quite frankly I enjoy any and all rallies I go to, no matter who is running them or what their budgets are. Its about leaving yr attitudes and assumptions at the gate and meeting a bunch of like-minded peeps.
Rashika buddy, the Straggler Tour planning is well underway, a warmup sesh was held at New Years and its shaping up to be a good one, there will be a trike, a sidecar and 3 Buells amongst the standard HDs...about 10 of us cruising together... on the road again...can't wait to get on the road again...you know how it goes
Looking forward to meeting up with old friends and making new ones ;-)
Oh yeah... and just gotta brag (sorry can't help it ) my Buell has been nominated for the Peoples Choice category in the 'Show n Shine'. Its been customised quite a bit...don't look NUTHIN like my profile pic now...he he he

I have no problem with Harley's in fact I owned one back in the seventies. But it spent more time in the workshop than what it did in my shed. In a word it was a "dog" and nearly sent me bankrupt. But it's not the brand that gets up my nose it's "some" of the dorks that own them. Hey let's face up to it it's just an EGO thing.
You enjoy your HD a lot of members on this forum have gone through the stage your at now. But a couple of years down the track you will be riding a different bike. So you have that to look forward to. Also what gives me the shits, and a lot of fellow bikers is the blatant use of drag pipes. Now how dumb is fitting those ear shattering things on their bikes. What do you think that has caused the clampdown on noisy bikes. Your mob has to take a lot of the blame for it. And I hope your not one of those Wally's.
Also I hope that you are not one of the rednecks that refuse to give a fellow biker a wave, or a nod of the head. Because if you are, you have many more bikers out there that hate and despise the rednecks riding those chromed compressors. Well that ought to do for starters.
And finally what date do you do the Manfield thing? I've gotta see that!!!!!
they will be able to plant spuds in the track when you dudes are finished ploughing it up with your foot pegs.
And finally my user name is here to stay so get use to looking at it. :(

Now I understand....maybe you have some difficulty reading!!!!! Have a look at your thread on loud/drag pipes..you will see I dont have them, have a read at my signature and have a read at any of the thousands of wave threads and you will see my position on that....and please dont tell me that its only some Harley riders that don't wave??? Do all Triumph riders wave? Do all sportsbike riders wave? Get a reality check....I have ridden for 30 years and have never stopped waving to anyone on a bike but it seems this is not the case with everyone..thats cool..wave if you want, dont if you dont who cares??? There was never a rule you had to back 30 years ago either..it seems that some like to think of the good old days when everyone did but.well...reality again......
It is clear now..you had an old Harley that was a piece of junk hence the bitterness..I understand that. I owned an old Ducati and it was the biggest most unreliable piece of shit I owned but I had two others that were great....but I still enjoy seeing a good Ducati go past.
But I respect everyone's right to their dislikes and their opinions...I just dont have to agree with them. I dont get why you need to be so confrontational all the time and try to score points off people (example with the crack against NightHawkNZ)...maybe its your way..if it is then (to use your words again) you poor thing you.
Ride what you like, enjoy what you ride...that's the most important thing isnt it?

I'm sure if Suzuki or Yamaha or whoever got it tgoether like H.O.G. do and organised something like that people would go, but there is no such organisation for Jap cruisers, because most of the Jap cruisders are relaxed, nice folk, who don't feel it necessary to run down other makes of bikes.......

Fucking hell dude, you sound like a fucking old age pensioner who is pissed off at the yankees because they claimed to have won the 2nd fucking world war!!! Take a chill pill, drink a beer and relax, you seem far too worked up! If people don't wave at you please don't get angry, they might know you from this website and hence not want to wave at you, or they simply see you too late and dont have time to wave back, or they are busy concentrating on riding their bike WITH TWO FUCKING HANDS AND CAN'T WAVE BACK! Shit, now I gotta take a chill pill.....

And in the 70's Triumphs were the same - and in the late 80's when I wanted to buy a 'traditional' bike like a Harley or Triumph and asked for recommendations the Truimph owners (true) said go for a Harley as (in thier words) "Lucas, Prince of Darkness, will let you down somewhere, sometime and just when you don't need it"
I would still enjoy a classic Bonnie - and one day may well do so.

Wooo Hoooo keep em coming I'm loving it. I haven't had so much of a laugh since my granny caught her tits in the mangle.
And No one told me when the Hoglies are going to invade Manfield. I can't miss that!!
As I have said before I have got nothing against the HD's it's just the culture within, and of most of the plonkers that ride them.
OK let it rip. I'm prepared for a bit of incoming. Over and out. Cheers all I hope you are getting a good laugh at this lot.......Huck

actually the Pukekoe track part of last years rally was flippin awesum... my partner was very jealous as we have only ever raced on Ruapuna and Levels, so it was fun having a bit of a play on another track, esp on the Buell. Kinda cool carving up the other bikes  ...tho some of em were a bit worrying trying to pass but I guess you get that with non-racers on the track. Woulda been cool to try it at Manfeild... you'll just have to tell me about it Buellbabe!
As for the culture, unless you have been in it you wouldn't understand... there are as many tosspot non HDers and there are tosspot HDers... brand of bike makes no diff there. But from my point of view there are some bloody awesum people who go to these rallys and it is often the only time I get to see them. So I'm gonna miss ya guys :(

No, no , no Rash - this is not the way to promote blinkered ignorance and jealousy.
You must henceforth jump to conclusions about all folks from their brand of motorcycle.
You must also assume that they only have one bike.

I'm sure if Suzuki or Yamaha or whoever got it tgoether like H.O.G. do and organised something like that people would go, but there is no such organisation for Jap cruisers, because most of the Jap cruisders are relaxed, nice folk, who don't feel it necessary to run down other makes of bikes.......

as for the culture? well I know a lot of HD riders and not one of them slags other brands. In fact yesterday I stopped into a watering hole where I ran into some old mates who belong to a patched 'club' and at the same place there were a mixture of jappas and euros (no, I not talking about the Puhoi). Anyways we ALL stood around admiring each others bikes, there was no 'us and them' mentality. We were all on 2 wheels and thats all that mattered.

Now back to the original question. posted by my old tin plate (mate) Ratusratus at the beginning of the thread. Is anyone on the forum going to the HOG rally ???????
Well I for one won't be going because I don't ride a Harley Davidson and don't know where they are having it. All I know is they are taking a lap or two at mighty Manfield and I don't want to miss that spectacle. Dates Please?????????

I think you'll find that in the cruiser group of this website we do not slag of each others bikes, its normally the sporties that do so...we do it light heartedly, while the sporties do it because they have a inferiority complex because Joe Public likes cruisers VS sporties, cause cruisers look nice........

I just ride want I want to ride I don't give a crap what other people say or think... and I don't give a fat arse what other people ride as long as if they are on 2 wheels and having fun. The main group down here has a good mix of bikes, Sports, Sports/Tourers, Cruisers, and Adventure bikes... and we are all happy to ride in a group together. (heck I ride a honda  )
The day when I go for a ride and come back and not have that smile on my face will be the day l consider changing to another biker...

Onya mate! Ultras ROCK! Jeez I can remember chasing one that was getting thrown around like an oversize dirtbike. I was giving the Buell a fair caning to keep up with it.
NB: this particular Ultra had a hotted up engine but the rest of the bike was standard and it is a big bike to throw around but, like most Harleys, is superbly balanced so if you've got the balls there ain't nothing stopping ya!
