View Full Version : “Dykes on Bikes” name saved – again!

Lesbian motorcycle group “Dykes on Bikes” has once again successfully defended their right to use the name.

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal from East Bay lawyer Michael McDermott, who claimed the name was "scandalous and immoral" and “disparaged lesbians and men”, as he challenged a January 2006 decision by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that granted the San Francisco Women's Motorcycle Contingent exclusive rights to the name it has used for more than 30 years.

The court ruled that McDermott could not prove how he – or indeed lesbian bikers (many of who are members of “Dykes on Bikes” and chose their own name) - would be harmed by the name.

Lets hope McDermott will go off and waste his money on something more worthwhile than hassling a group of people because he doesn’t like their name.

I'm sure they feel the same way about you! :girlfight:

And you can't suggest they all ride Harleys!

Nothing like a sterotype, eh?

Your point being?

Basically, you just said they ride Harleys.. Or Buells. Or Goldwings (made by HONDA - a JAPANESE company). And "all the rest are jappas". So what about Ducati? They've got a decent market share. Or Triumph? Highest sales figures recorded since the relaunch of the company.

Or how about saying "They ride bikes"? Which is essentially what you just said. And what I was saying - they probably don't all ride Harleys.

Homosexuality is an affront against God and nature. The filthy deviants shouldn't be allowed out in decent society.

Can any literary types out there remember who it was that said "I don't mind what they do,as long as it doesn't upset the children or animals"?

Repost...

Oh, sorry...what are we talking about again?

Ah yes, dykes...I find it so ironic that a man would tell lesbians what should be offending to them!

The stench of that PC maniac's BS is indeed a pungent brew

It's the opposite of PC.
The guy is a fundamentalist Christian who hates gay and lesbian people, and is using the excuse "it's offensive to men" to attack them.

Oh ok...It was the "disparaged lesbians and men" portion which led me to believe he was making an hypocritical attempt at political correctness.

I have got nothing against Lessi's or Homo's it is there choice. But Huck likes a wet pussy. And as stated who gives a horses arse what the Gay people ride. As long as it isn't my bike.

But I have been to watch the Gay mardi gra a good few years ago in Auckland. I noticed the Dyke's on Bikes were all riding Harley's. Now before you jump down my throat. It was purely an observation not a dig at what they were riding.

And I also observed some of the DOB were drop dead gorgeous chicks. I thought to myself, what an absolute waste of a life, choosing to go that way. I often wonder about these gay folk whether or not when they get old and gray. Whether or not they regret the path they chose in life..
:Offtopic: Sorry guys for getting of topic...

no, God hasn't forgotten how to love, He is a merciful loving God. But lest we forget that there will be judgment one day, wrath is also a part of God's nature. God's anger against sin is to be seen in abundance in the OT, but lots of people (Christians included) only like to focus on "God is love" to the exclusion of other aspects of the nature of God. Even the NT shows that the wrath of God is still to be feared - briefly, see Rev. 2 vv 18-23, and 20 vv 7-15
The good news is that God's anger against sin was poured out on His own Son in the place of us who deserve it. If Christ is our saviour then God's judgment is turned away from us.
p.s. i am not going to get into a debate about this, so feel free to comment but i won't be getting into a slanging match over my post.

oh, just to add, I have no problem with the Dykes on Bikes name or those who wish to come under that banner. People choose how they want to live and I am not about to go on a witch hunt or gay-bashing spree.

Thanks for your opinion, I believe we must all be free to hold true to our own beliefs as long as they are not detrimental to the well being of others. My post had a sarcastic tone to it. This being becuase I do not believe in a God. I respect that others do believe. What I find difficult to respect is when people tell others that God does not love them becuase of the way that "God made them". Anyway neither do I want to get into a slinging match, but I dont shy from a respectful discussion or debate.

Hi All,

Complaints have come through regarding some of the posts on this thread. I am not going to point fingers, but what I hoped was a post about freedom of speech, the right to give yourself a name being challenged on the very spuious grounds being - quite rightfully - defeated, has turned into something very different.

So I am going to close it off now.

There have been some derogotory comments about all sorts of people - and politics, religeon and all sorts of highly personal things are appearing. Which means things are getting rather emotive.

You all seem to have started to turn this around and gotten more rational, but I'd rather not run the risk of things flaring up again.

So I think it best to let this one quietly close.

Thanks,

Bob
