Hey guys...
so i took my bike in for a warrant today, and it failed miserably... well more than i can afford to fix.
The bike is a Kawasaki GPX250 1989 and the engine runs like a dream, well to me anyway, has 24,000 on the speedo.
Has just had a new back tyre replaced so its nice and sticky.
I love this bike so its gonna suck to sell it but would you guys be able to tell me what id get for it? the problems are as follows (from WOF):
Chain Needs Readjusting (easy one)
Rear suspension is gone, oil is leaking everywhere and theres now no dampening/suspension - needs to be sent away - ball park figure $200
front fork legs are pitted, so either replace the forks or do sum sanding down
front fork seals are gone too
Steering head is notchy - needs replacing
front left brake pad is worn down a little more than the others, possibly just an old brake pad not been replaces

I'll take a stab at it and say maybe $2.5k+ Still has low km so it's still quite good if it's a sound runner.

to be honest -in that condition I think its gonna be more like $1500 tops

Dunno if you'd get that much..... Its kinda hard(er) to sell a bike that has failed a warrant....
Still, low kms and good engine are a bonus. Fork legs are hard to work on, would take quite a bit of time, and you cant sand all the chrome off them, theres a limit to how much repairing you can do by sanding. Milky's just araldited his (thin smear + sellotape over the top to hold it all in), then sand down to smooth... Steering head is a problem maybe, shock could be replaced with second hand one?
It doesnt sound like an expensive fixer if you do the forks yourself, except maybe the steering head as unknown. TBH I have no idea what the current prices are for them, but I reckon a bit under $2k as is

Doesn't look like you have spent a cent on maintenace. Not a good look if your trying to sell.
Good luck.

Theres a couple going on trade me...they are not "ninga"s as you can see by the single front disc but they will give you a pretty good indication on price

I have spent money on maintainence, but im only a noob to bikes so i only go off what the shop tell me when they see. Ive had the fork seals replaced before and told that they are pitted. His advice was to chrome polish them every week or so and i have been doing that. I can tell you now i could feel something with the rear suspension but i thought nothing of it. even my uncle whos an enthusiast didnt pick it up.
I think the plan for me is to fix up as much as i can with the money i have and then sell it off. I might as well just leave it for now and get a new bike when i get my full licence.
As for the steering head all it needs is some new bearings put in. The only reason i would want to sell is because i cant afford to fix it up.

Where theres a will theres a way!... just spend a weekend on it... buy a bit at a time... none of it is really major work, just time consuming.
when I had my cbr400 I blew a fork seal coz one of the tubes was bent.. took 2 hours.. and I hadnt played with forks for years!... probably would have taken an hour if I knew what I was doing. didnt straighten the tube either... just put it back in and turned everything so it didnt bind. fork oil and seals cost me $37 delivered!...
just takes time!
[EDIT]
Pauls KB bike fixes are stuff of legends! I'll come around and give you a hand

Well tonight i went f*!k it, and the pipes, fairing and tank (almost) off, ive readjusted the chain, but then realised im gonna have to take the rear off to replace the suspention. my mum sez that the araldite trick may work, but im gonna see if i can find some second hand stuff. brake pads can be sorted later. and i reckon my uncle can do the bearings some other time.
so all this stress was pretty much over nutthin, but i do look foward to a paul night doing something to someones bike.
anyone keen to do a streetfighter conversion ;) the kawa looks pretty awesome with no fairing

Your bike sound fine except for a bt of TLC.
Get the shock serviced, although the shocks were pretty crap anyway, and it should be fine.
My brother rides one with about +70,000k sofar and its OK.
Learn how to fix this one before you need to fix the 600

DarkNinja - did you 'leave' your bike down at the Lower Hutt carpark on a Thursday a few weeks back? (Related to fireworks and certain officials not being impressed). Probably was someone else.

Oh there was just some bike there that had been left behind because the guy had got arrested for letting off fireworks or something. His mum started asking us if the bike was still there when we were at Mc D's, and I figured it was quite a young guy on the same bike in Wgtn and so could've been you. Obviously not though. He got someone to pick the bike up that night though so it was all good.
