Sweet bike. There's a fella around here that goes for the newer R(D/Z)(2/3)50s, his name is GiJoe1313. I know he's picked up various bits and pieces from around the country from enthusiasts for these bikes. Might be worth asking him if he knows anybody with anything?

Ixion
9th January 2008, 14:08
If he did , he'd buy it, and if he didn't I would.

EDIT: The RD350LC is the RZ350. The name changed depending on country. RZ350 here, RD350LC in UK. The RD350 (no lc) was the earlier (still very yummy) air cooled machine. TZ2/350 is the racer. Extra yummy.

pick up the latest Motorcycle Mechanics mag (its a UK one) because the front cover pic is a RD350LC and an RZ350YPVS head to head comparo.

I rode one extensively in the '80's and hanker after one again.....

The RD250/350LC was also marketed here and was followed by the RZ250/350.

RZ350 YPVS is a different (somewhat) beast.Look here (http://www.rd350lc.net)for all the model name intricacy. BTW they were still made new in Brazil until about 2006, and exported to Europe (Germany especially) until a few years ago.

No. You definately don't want one. They're noisy. Smelly. Anti social. Environmentally unsafe. If you had one you personally could be held accountable for global warming and the end of civilisation as we know it. And the fuel consumption is shocking, how could you think of wantonly squandering a precious finite resource so.

Only irresponsible hoons ride two strokes. Especially ones like the RZ.

Beside, there aren't enough to go around.

So after all those replies what are you looking for?

1981/82 RD350LC 4LO no ypvs
1983/84 RZ350 (RD350LC2 in europe) 31K with ypvs
1985 on RZ350N / F2 1UA with a few extra hp different gauges etc

4L0s are a bit hard to find as they qualify for Pre 82 racing, RZs arent really sought after for racing as they arent really competitive in pre 89 although they are awesome bikes.

You will find one without too much problem, the price make people squeak a bit , if you have just swapped pounds for nz dollars it wont hurt a bit. There was a nice 4lo on trade me last week http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Classic-vintage/auction-134511666.htm

Now I have one as does... ahh shit hers a pic for ya just to remind you of the good old days.

42 Tuonos 350 std
68 mine 350 mild work
99 Rashika's 250 std still regestered
71 BrenChCh 350 highly worked
88 Stanko 350 highly worked
missing is Kickahas white 350 std

PS: tl1000s, if you want the YPVS version then you want the RZ350

I don't get it. Your own link shows the RD350LC (which is what I knew them as here - and even had the Haynes manual for [with both RD and LC in the name])...

http://www.rd350lc.net/page4L0-80.htm

Go to this (http://www.rd350lc.net/pageRDvsRZ.htm)page, it explains what was RD and what was RZ and where

Basically, all the water cooled models were RZs in Japan (and USA for the one year they sold them there) . They were all RD-LC in Europe/Uk and Brazil.

And canada, South africa and here they started out as RD-LC then switched dto RZ

Yep - so wasn't it splitting hairs to claim RD's are RZ's? It remains that here in NZ the RD350LC is a valid model number to talk about. Doesn't it?

Ixion
9th January 2008, 20:01
That wasn't actually what I said. i said that the RZ and RD-LC are the same machine.

So if someone has an 85 RD350-LC and someone else has an 85 RZ350, they will actually have the same bike.

In most countries there were only one sort - they either got RD-LC or RZ. But in NZ because of our small market we often get mixtures. One shipment will be UK models, the next Australian and so on. Plus imports of JDM stuff. So you can get RZ-LCs and RZs.

which was occasioned by someone else commenting that the RZ superceded the RD-LC. Which it did here, but only by changing the name.

dangerous
9th January 2008, 20:44
dosnt really matter anyway cos we are in NZ and all pre power valve bikes were RD's from 83 they were the YPVS knowen as the RZ.
However if tl1000s is a pom then he will know the YPVS as RD's aswell... so when he comes back from holliday he will tell us just what he wants :niceone:

If I had a chance to buy another of those, I'd plead with Mrs Nudie to let me do so.

I had an RD350LC with race fairing etc and then 2 RD350YPVS's.

Really great bikes and as long as you adjusted the carbs using the window and your ear ie for the drop and removed the baffles fortnightly, poured petrol on, set light to and then wire brushed to decoke they were bloody quick bikes.

My RD350LC did 125mph with the race fairing.

Then I put an RG250 Gamma engine in it.......twas fast.

The frame on the YPVS was tuned to tighten up at 80mph. You could actually feel the difference.

Great bikes and if I had the dough I would have another as a second bike.

For a 350LC you will be paying between $1500 for a heapa, and $2700 for a tidy beast.
