How about a bit of a Thursday night northwest thrash?
I have to go see a man about a dog tonight, so I'll be riding to Dargaville after work via the above route, stopping for 20-30 minutes, then turning around and coming back.
There's a pub in Dargaville town, a Subway, etc, so a dinner stop there is quite feasible.
Meet at the Coatesville-Riverhead road (SH28) turnoff from SH17 just north of Albany at 5:45pm, departure at 6:00pm. Sunset tonight is at 8:44pm.
Any takers? Don't make me ride on my own, I'll get lonely...

Do you know where the Saatchi & Saatchi building is in Parnell? You could meet me outside my office and follow me from there, if you like.

Everyone should be back home by 11pm.

Want me to bring the M14 in its handy-dandy soft carry case with shoulder strap?

Why not, seeing as I live 2 mins from your meeting point I will come along but I can't be bothered going all the Dargaville so will turn around at Welsford.
Meeting at the (closed) BP ?

What time at The Strand?
jrandom
10th January 2008, 09:09
Have just adjusted plans slightly, so it'll be a 5:45 meet at the closed BP (as suggested by boostin) near the Coatesville-Riverhead road turnoff from SH17, and a 6:00pm departure therefrom.
I'll leave The Strand at 5:15pm. Look for the fulla on the black GSX1400 hanging around on the road outside the S&S building.

By the way, folks, we won't be stopping for gas between Auckland and Dargaville (unless there's anyone coming along with a < 200km tank range...) so make sure you come to the start point with a full tank.

Speed kills!
So...
If a big enough group goes on this ride...
And they go fast enough...
Then any police cop foolish enough to wait on the side of the road on the alleged route...
Could likely get sucked into the Maelstrom of Death / Vortex of Doom...
And get killed dead?

No, he turned off about 40km south of Wellsford. I gave him a cheery wave.
Got stuck behind an unmarked snake in the dark coming back down SH1 south of Wellsford, too. Good thing those disco lights on the rear parcel shelf reflect headlights very brightly, eh?
The BT020s are crap. Time to swap them. I had an interesting moment overtaking on solid lines at a fair rate of knots at one stage - the back end wiggled madly around under throttle as it touched the paint. Bolt upright, clean dry roads, and it just wasn't gripping.

Oh yeah; Dan - the BT020s are crap. It's time you swapped them.
The BT021s are allegedly better, but you could do more betterer than that.

It does seem to put a bit of a damper on things when you have to follow them but it was still a nice afternoon for a short ride (for me).
