Hi guys, Don't have a big trialie in the shed anymore, But was thinking about taking the landcruiser thru the rainbow rd early next week. Do you have to ring up , or just go thru and pay toll to get gate unlocked nelson end at the moment?. Any advice welcomed, never been thru there before. Not sure about doing molesworth at this stage, told it can be a bit boring and dusty on some bits? may come home via the inland way.

Err, went there a few months ago on a 4x4, no toll or anything to get through cept there was a rock slide blocking the road half way through so had to turn around and take the very long way round..

Hi

Its good through there at the moment
You will have no trouble :niceone:

You will have to pay $$ at the rangers hut at the St Arnaud end of the road, there will be someone there to greet you.

I think for a car it is $20 , I know for a bike it is $10 :niceone:

We were in there last Saturday

Cheers Scott

Might as well do the molesworth while your there, if its open, it's not something ya do every week, then make up your own mind whether it's boring or not.

Old homestead about 40kms from the St Arnaud end is where you pay at this time of year. Any cruiser would brease through. $20 for a vehicle.

Molesworth is free. If you have never done it then give it ago and make you own mind up. Check out the Dusty Butt thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=59894) about Altimarlock (black birch range) at 1696m. Defiantly worth the view up top. Just ignore the private property sign on the first gate, its not legal.

Now it's in season as the others said the ranger will be waiting for you at the old house nearing the North end.

Hi guys,
I've heard it's very likely the molesworth gate will be closed in feb . I'm planning our first 2 week adventure ride in the south island in early feb and wondered if molesworth is closed will the rainbow be opened???

(sorry cruza for semi-hijacking your thread)
