This is a great site!!!!
I ride my XR650 in the California high desert and look forward to talking to other bikers on this site. My wife gave me a new helmet cam that I hope I can learn to work in the next week or so and post some of my desert rides in the near future.

Welcome pitman, I did some riding in the desert near Bakersfield in the mid '90s. Lots of interesting wildlife..... Was in October, so very hot. Post some pics, it will bring back memories.....

Im not too big on air but going 80 mph across the desert is a fucking rush. The XR650 is a great bike for that type of riding. It's my desert Hog.

I have fond memories of the Californian desert.
I rode the penultimate Barstow to Vegas race (87?).
The word was that the greenies were trying to close the (iconic) race down, and that year might be the last one run.
As a result, many thousands entered that year. It was a blast!
It was run the following year but was restricted to running mostly on formed roads and tracks as opposed to the wild wide open spaces previously. Was cancelled for good after that.
