Wednesday 6th February. Well time to do another Waitangi day ride soon.Last year we had a great turn out so time to do again.
A run to Kaikoura for lunch via the inland road back the coast road.
Meet at the The Peg - Belfast Tavern carpark Main North Road Belfast. 9-30am for a 10am departure
And as usual weather permitting.:sunny:

I'm a fan for the Kai just not too sure if I'm in on this one but hey any rides a good ride. There will be a shit load of traffic on the Akaroa Highway. The inland rout to kai will in all probailty have less volume.

Too many shitheads on last years run to Ackers on Feb 6, think I'll stay away from this one, but I wish you a lovely ride anyway

Yeah there were a few but most stopped at the pubs on the way and stayed. While we carried on to Akaroa,i remember seeing you there. Most i have talked to seem more keen on the Kailoura ride so far.

Have a few more bikers interested in coming along, and some are keen on the Block ride.Decisions?
MTW
14th January 2008, 21:26
I'd be keen on the block run, we did that Kai trip start of Jan which was good also, but I'm voting for the block as something different. Of course weather dependant, I guess if the weather is looking like crap on the coast then the Kai trip is a good alternative.

Yeah... the block ride sounds good, If it turns to poo over the hill we can go to Kai like MTW said.
I'll be there anyway I'm happy to go anywhere :Punk:

you could go to kai via the leder road, go ther culverden-rotherham-waiau, instead of going going up past mt lyford go the other way, the road comes out about parnassus (north of cheviot). i think that road is much nicer to ride than the inland one.

I know what you mean, I would of gone on the last one you went on, but had to work :(
I think I seen you going through Woodend as I was going the other way in my truck :crybaby:

And it was an awesome day to.Im glad my truck driving days are over - i used to envy seeing bikes out for a ride on a nice day when i was busy working. Now i just envy everyone that goes for rides at the weekends while im stuck at home looking after the kids.

I did the Gretta valley Kaikora road today, SH1
no roadworks , no loose metal on the road
good clean road
I returned via the inland road to Waiau, again no roadworks and only a handfull of pebbles on the first 25k crn.
Afta a beer at the waiau pub, just one,
Took the Leader road back to Parnassas, again was clear of any roadworks, loose shingle any thing.
My only concern for the day was a stupd Ulissis club member who couldnt stay on his side of the road, a white line rider, idiot.
And thats meant to be a club that promotes saftey?? Yeah right
Im going on the round the bays run on the 6th, so have a good ride guys

yeah thats what I said... but why go down those long farking straights to Culverdin... when the east coast to the Leader rd (which leads to Waiau) is a far beter ride?

Right we are sticking with the origanal plan for the ride through to Culverden to Waiau to Kaikoura.Fuel could be a problem for some on the other route. But time would be major factor for others.
So we stick with origanal plan.
VTRRR i will text you on meet point unless you come down further.
Update tomorrow.cheers.

am courious as to what time you might expect to be back in Christchurch.
Something worth concidering is....
Are the out of town local petrol stops going to be open in the morning, or even at all ?
This could pose problems for some
Just a concideration for those with small tanks as the round trip is 300+k's

I think it will be fine most of the bigger petrol stations never close now days.

I had huge fun, needed the practice, badly needed the advice. Thanks especially to Sal (sp?) and the guy with his wee lad (amazing how quickly I forget names ). I really appreciate it, will make sure to get more careful practice in ;)
I think my wee 250 survived - had the first fuel light just coming on twice, so the ride was well planned even for me :).
A few pics from the day:

The bikes while grabbing lunch in Kaikoura:

Leigh's ride (I should have taken more of these pics...):

Weather was awesome, should have taken a shot down the coast in Kaikoura and on the way up past the seals - the views were perfect. Thanks again everyone.

They were after all the motorists crossing the white line on the kink in the road.Trying to cut down on the speeding-cut corner -bang.
Traffic was pretty well behaved though wasnt it? - for a busy day on the road.

Did you notice one was holding a radio?
The other cars 5k's up the road were taking speed shots, rego numbers and radioing them through. Often done in that area
