Ruapuna Practice times from this morning...

Couple of interesting things to note...Robbie Bugden is a second a lap faster than anyone in Superbikes and Dennis Charlett is hauling!!! and our Jayracer37 [jay lawrence] is right up there too!!

Dispite Robbies rapid practise time...I doubt the other top riders will be far behind during qualifing and racing!! but he seems to be the one to put the $$$ on at this stage!! You can never count Stroudie out...and smith and shirrifs won't make life easy either!! be also interesting how damian cudlin goes...the transition from endurance racing to sprint racing can't be that straight forward can it???

Formula 3/pro twins Pratice: Terry Fitzgerald leads the way from Steve Wood and Glen Williams all riding SV650 Suzuki. Fitzgerald 1:40.004 , Wood 1:40.717 , Williams 1:40.753 , Tom Boss 1:41.761 , Eric Deboer 1:41.819 Kawasaki 400 , Karl Morgan 1:42.849

Reigning Superbike Champion Robbie Bugden Clearly he was fastest , leading the field by one second. Bugden 1:31.208 , Stroud 1:32.201 , Cudlin 1:32.339 , Smith 1:32.500 , Shirriffs 1:32.564 , Jones 1:32.958

Supersport Practice.

Just spoke to Sam Love about 10 mins ago,He had a horrendous crash on thursday,Hit the tyre wall on the outside of turn 1,Breaking and dislocating his ankle. Its been bolted back together but hes out for approximately 4 months. He also informed me the organisers and MNZ have decided to invoke rule no.22-8-2 on the Pro twins class(If there are not 10 entries then no championship race will take place).Which means our up and coming riders have spent in excess of $20,000.00 to travel south and do some club racing for the crowd.A bit short sighted me thinks for a new class,Why would anyone make the effort next year??I thought these guys were supposed to be encouraging people into the sport.YEAH RIGHT

Not sure whats up with the F3/ProTwins? The results indicate that Fitzgerald and Williams look to be in F3 rather than Pro Twins, if they were entered in Pro Twins, you'd have your 10 riders?

To be able to enter protwin they would have to fit std engines and remove their GSXR frontends. And also put std rims back on. Plus other stuff I've overlooked.

I'm always amazed at how little people know about the two classes.

Yeah yeah, sorting it. hehe. On charge at the moment. Should be good by the morning.

Track temp was 49. So i decided to run a harder compound of tyres. Looks as though the tyres aren't suited to hot days, they cold teared etc. I think that the compound is more a factor of track surface makeup rather than track temp. For the dunlops anyway.

Tomorrow's another day. Another hot day at that....

Nah, Pro Twins is basically a standard SV650 or similar with only minor mods allowed- would be heaps slower than an F3 spec bike...... That said though, two of the Pro Twins were running 1:41/2's- thats only a couple of seconds off what the top F3 spec SV's are doing.

Superbike GP- Sam Smith was leading and pulling away. Had a HUGE tankslapper at Pothole (fastest corner) and crashed. Bugden won the restart with Stroud second. Bugden broke the lap record- I think its now 1:30.8

125GP- if I heard it right, Cameron Jones started from LAST on the grid. He went on to win! Oyster, you must be one proud dad!! I missed this, but in an earlier race, K14 had a huge crash getting stuck between the front and back wheels of another bike and "getting rolled down the track like a rag doll" (according to the comentary). He raced in the GP- top effort Kirk, you must have been bloody sore.

tony tony tony... and yet you hate accos discused when theres only speculation ;)

K14 sliped down a gear (unintensual) and his bike locked up the rider behind went clean up his arse, the riders bike cart wheelied away and the riders leg was draged up and over the rear wheel were it was stuck, he was draged for a long time as the speed was well over 100kph K14 held on well for some distance slowing down but lost control and the bike rolled several times, both bikes were in a heap on the main straight and both riders draged them selves to the side... IMHO the race should have been red flaged to much debri on the track and it took k14 quite a while to get up and over pit wall (on the inside of the track 1m from the edge)

hehehehe, I know... hay man I seen a chance so I nabed it :sweatdrop
I was on site and helped recover the bike, the guy on #7 was bloody lucky not to have had his leg munted good and proper.
K14's bike was a mess few grazes and bit of blood, he rebuilt the bike with sAslex and spear parts and went out in the next round.

Unlike some of the 600 bikes that, well they are rooted.

gav
13th January 2008, 18:35
It almost looked as if Gregor Stevens (#7) somehow tagged K14 by trying to ride around the outside of him in top sweeper and leading onto the straight. He tried that line a couple of times but almost looked as if he somehow hit K14 and got his bike somehow caught up with K14, that and a combination of a missed gear, produced one of the most spectacular crashes you're likely to see!
Full credit to Kirk for starting and finishing the GP, top effort mate!

k14
13th January 2008, 18:52
Yeah not a nice crash at all. I came out of the sweeper in 2nd gear (as usual) and clicked into third after i straightened up. Then a second or two later the bike jumped back into 2nd gear and then bang. Got gregor's bike right up the jacksie. His bike tumbled away but he got his leg wedged inbetween my rear tyre and seat unit. It felt like my rear tyre was locked up but it was just rubbing against his leathers. So after a bit of a slide with the rear it eventually came around and spat me off.

Damage to bike was enough, expansion chamber, seat, right rearset and brake lever, left handle bar and a few other minor things. Damage to me was sprained left ankle and various bruises and grazes.

Worst thing was that I was in 3rd place with 2 laps left and I was pretty comfortable in that position. Having a good tussle with the other guys.

Last race was a bit of an embarrassment. Just circulated like a muppet and came in 12th.

Pretty dissapointing weekend. But hopefully next weekend goes better.

Info from www.mcnews.com.au
A fantastic day’s racing was witnessed by a big crowd at Ruapuna Park today at the New Zealand Motorcycle Grand Prixs, round one of the Castrol New Zealand Superbike Championships.

The crowd sat in the blistering Canterbury sun watching the cream of New Zealand’s road racers do battle with the young pretenders from Australia and the USA... The racing was hard and fast with many taking excursions into the unknown.

The Superbike Grand Prix started with a roar and young Aucklander Sam Smith took his Yamaha R1 to the lead, unfortunately luck was not on his side and within a few laps he was down and out of contention.

The restart saw a battle form between the Australian duo of Robbie Bugden (Suzuki) and Gareth Jones (Yamaha) and this to was short lived when Bugden slowing pulled away to be almost the length of the front straight in front at the end.

Hamilton’s Andrew Stroud (Suzuki) fought on to pass Jones to take second. The other minor placing where filled by two more Suzuki pilots Fielding’s Craig Shirriffs and Auckland’s Ray Clee.

Local rider Dennis Charlett, recently returned from Australia, dominated the Grand Prix from start to finish.

The main battle of the day was between Christchurch’s James Smith (Suzuki) and Wellington’s Jay Lawrence for second and third.

Ya know that GSXR's are designed to go fast and make high hourse power...not push a couple of hippo's around on a trike!!

Can it Tubby, the second motor we fitted seemed to be a bit better and not be the usual shoddy GSXR manufacture and actually finished both races, with all three races won by our very own Scrivy/Sidecarbob combo, congratulations guys :first:

Chris Sucich [two smoker] got run into..and crashed..He's apparently Okay..but has takin himself to A & E..was a messy crash apparently and bikes a lil bit of a mess.

The American boys both crashed again in this race...so their season isn't starting so well.

The 600 boys were crashing their brains out all over the place both 600 races were red flagged and restarted

Just got back from a great weekend at the Nats Rnd 1 and NZ Grand Prix.

Was very hot for our first F3 races on Saturday. Just cookin... tires and bikes did not like it one bit. The Metzelers worked good tho :)

Went up top to the embankment to watch Kirk in the 125GP's. He was havin a blinder and i felt for him when it went wrong as he had worked hard to get to the pointy end of the field where he was.

In F3; Glen Williams, Terry Fitzgerald and Stevie Woods lead the charge, dipping into the high 30's. Glen rode faultlessly all races, while Terry and Steve had both highs and lows (a win and a second, then a crash and DNF respectively).
I rode the hardest I ever had in my life. I seriously tried so hard and gave it my all, and could just hang with them for a lap or so, but was a second or two down. However, the way racing goes, our Team Green was there at the finish. We worked hard and got there and me and my team mate picked up 2nd and 3rd respectively for Round One and I placed 2nd in the NZGP.
Well knock my socks off, i was stoked.

But the ol' GW had a blinder and was right up there. I'll let him tell you's about that.

Karl Morgan in Pro-twins impressed. he had smooth and great pace.
Pity that Sam Love didn't make it to the sartline. While i've never met him, he seems like he has given it his all to be there this season. So to have it snatched away like that suks a bit.
Met Keystone19 for the first time and she was enjoying being back on a bike and hoping to get her pace back.

Anyways, Till next weekend

Now, where are those go faster pills...

So that'd be an earlier air cooled version then with that air hole in the case?

hey feral boy!!

it was great to watch man, i forgot to tell you that i was shitting bricks when you were coming around the sweaper for the last time to take 2nd in the gp. you take a very wide line on to the straight, (hence you little trip to the grass in qualifying) Glen (agate) had come off his zxr on the exit and his bike was right on your racing line. I had some pretty nasty visions running through my head at that point but thankfully it was out of the way in the nick of time. Andy and i were screaming and yelling, we could both see what was going to happen.
early days yet mate but it must feel pretty good to be Glens closest challenger at this stage of the game.

keep it up son!!!

I dont have much time to write a detailed report (will be posted if I get the time) but basicly I got 1st 2nd and 3rd consecutively, Saturday was an awesome day and then Sunday Adam Chambers and I came together in turn 1, and he removed most of my exhaust in his last moments of being upright(ish) after that I did my best to try and beat Cam but Bike was a little slow with lack of exhaust, so got second with the fastest lap of the race. Next race after a lot of work on the bike, I got the holeshot and pulled a three second lead only to find my bike start cutting out, kept going but ended up third, still podium so still happy. Pulled the bike down again to find a fault with the plug cap had been causing the cutting out.
All fixed now and looking forward to Levels next weekend!!!
