FZR250 Vs CBR250

I am currently looking at picking up another bike and am looking at a couple of CBRs and a couple of FZRs. They have all done pretty similar KM (mid to high 20k kms) and are all around the same price ($4500 - $5500) I am just wanting opinions on which of the two bikes are better, ie reliability, rideability and longevity. From what I know of the bikes they are fairly similar HP wise, the FZR is a bit heavier and the CBR can fit a slightly wider tyre on the rear. I am just looking for info to push me in one direction or the other.

As far as power and reliability goes, the (MC19)CBR250R & (MC22)RR are just about as good as it gets for a 250cc 4 stroke.

how long until you can legally ride a bigger bike because that $$$$ buys a lot of ccs once you are away from the 250 restriction

I Currently have my restricted so I can ride a bigger bike but am looking for a 250 at the moment as I want something nice and light and zippy. (read: rely more on good riding practices and less on power and speed to keep up with the front group)

Honda makes the best 4 stroke 250. Mc22. will out last the others too (100 000kms)

mc22 every time. The bike is race worthy, reliable, cheap to run, and awesomely nimble and comfortable. I've had my full for ages and prefer it around town to the 600, it even feels safer cornering hard on the open road, I think the softer suspension also suits real life riding conditions. In my opinion possibly the best all round motorcycle ever made. Big call I know, I just love them.

As they said mate, there are lots of info on CBR, ZXR and FZR 250 here on KB just do a search. I personally would not go for a FZR 250 because you can't ring the nuts out of it like you can on a CBR or ZXR.

FZR's have valve problems and shims grind when you rev the fuck out of them, CBR you can't go wrong they are the best and reliable should easily last you 120,000 k's if you look after it. Mate of mine had done 126,000 on it and it still went awesome.

Handling in CBR is good light and nimble front end, you can sweep through corners. Look into a ZXR as well, if you're slightly bigger.

i recently perchased a mc22 rr cbr250 and 2ofmy m8s brought fzrs a 1990 that pus out 45hp and a 93 that puts out 40 but slightly more torque my cbr easly beats them in a straight line so if your looking for the faster of the 2 the cbr for sure!!!! plus the cbr revs right out 2 20g while fzr limits at 17g thats the 93.

easy:

get the honda if you're looking for the more reliable bike
get the cbr if you're looking for the better handling bike

i'm sure there's a reason fzr250s are much harder to find than cbr250s

Anyway,

Of the cbr and fzr, go for the cbr mc22.

Have you had a look at a zxr 250 c? bit bigger than the cbr, but just as quick, and worth a look if your looking in that price range. Mates got a zxr with nearly 100000k's on the clock n still goes sweet. I had one and loved it!!!

You'd be well worth going and having a ride on all 3 and seeing which you find the best really.

I have owned a 1989 cbr250. Fantastic bike. Did 12,000kms in one year. Only sold it because I got married and produced lots of kids and ran out of money. This was 9 years ago. Didn't ride a bike again until a month ago. Test rode a vtr for my son. Bought myself a 1989 zxr250. Did 2000kms in first week. My local mechanic blew a conrod out the front of the motor in the 3rd week. Great bike but parts are very hard to find and very expensive. Now have a 1997 hornet 250 (bought it today) Great bike, just need to get used to the extra wind.
Go for a CBR. I couldn't break mine (And it should've broken the way I treated it).

I just purchased a 1991 FZR 250. It's got 10k on the clock, I got it for about $3500. It's in really good nick and the engine pulls strong all the way up to 18k redline. It has matching straight line performance with the CBR on the road, I think everyone that says the CBR leaves an FZR for dead is a little star struck by the big brand name. They both have 45hp and similar weight so it makes sense. Corners wise, it comes down to the rider. There's nothing wrong with an FZR if you find a low K example like I did, and just for the record FZR's are also known to do well over 100k km's. I don't know more about the valve problems mentioned above but I have to admit it makes me nervous. Time for some homework...
