Was gonna post this in the Bike Mechanics Forum but last time I went there I got my head bitten off so once bitten....

Anyway - my Ducati had some "adjustment" made to the baffles, carbs etc. which required the stock can to be rivetted back together again. Problem is with the heating up and cooling down which is part of the natural order or things for a can the rivets gradually starrted to rattle and pop out, one by one. I drilled out all of the rivets and did the whole thing again and once again they started rattling....so....I used some bolts to bolt the end back in this time....with an interesting aesthetic effect. Made my can look like it had a gimp collar on it  made me laff - thought I'd share.

I hadn't intended anything different - I just wanted the damn rattling to stop - might invest in those chrome pointy little fookers for a laff!

Yeah, well I'm in search of some lower profile bolts that won't look so much like studs but at least the rattling ain't happenin' no more.

Use stainless steel or monel rivets, and seal up the gap before you rivet with high temp RTV. It is the vibration that kills ali pop rivets or flogs out the holes. Goop seals it up and stops the 2 parts fretting.

Your riveting problem is because you are riveting from the wrong side. This puts the pressure area of the rivet head on the outside of the curve instead of the inside where the nature curvature of the can would constrict the rivet from moving (Think of something movi ng sideways on the outside of a sphere. Easy. Now on the inside. Hard cos it hits the 'side' of the sphere.)

You need to rivet the ends from the INSIDE of the can. Sorted.

my rivet's on my growler did that; only the end cap shook so violently it ripped the holes drilled in the carbon sleeve to shreds.

I've since gone back to my stock cans whilst i await the "ahahahhaha fook you ...ahahhaha you make me laugh asking for warranty" ...reply!

well done sir for being so kiwi minded in your application! very neat and tidy.
