Rode 3/4 of the way out to Kaiaua today and there was more melted tar than not :eek5: It was the slickest i've ever seen that peice of road. I rode out just after lunch so I hate to imagine how squidgy it would have been by the late afternoon. Take care out there guys on hot days.
Also had what could have been a rather hairy moment. A chick in a rural delivery van decided to do a U turn around a blind corner and virtually came to a complete stop across the road. :shit: Thank @$!* for modern sportsbike brakes and thank goodness I was only doing about 90kph. Didn't think it was the safest place to be doing that.....

I rode over Kopu hill back from Coromandel the other day at about 3pm and boy was it terrible! So much melted tar which was mainly on the corners ! I did not feel comfortable at all, especially as the stone on the tar was pretty much loose gravel!

Basicly the double wheel tracks from cars on each side of the road were non-stop melted strips, talk about mess up your lines sometimes.

Yeah and I had cars up my arse as I was being so careful and they had 4 wheels, just made sure I throttled it on the straights then back on to the brakes and gears!

Well I hope that you gave that rural postie a piece of your mind about doing a u-turn on a blind corner and what can happen to motorbikes and their riders...
You would think people would learn after what happened in the south island when that cop did the u-turn on a bend... and took out a couple of bikes...

And we're all expected to lump this sort of roading quality after paying high taxes and rates? Where's my fucking plane ticket out of here

Is it any better anywhere else though? Friend of mine has moved to Sydney and he reckons the roads are just as shite there??

Believe it or not they can get like that over here but not on such a regular basis. I wouldn't suggest to anyone that they leave NZ for the Northern hemisphere though, well not on a permanent basis!!
Glad ur ok Draco. x

Agreed be careful on the melt, glad youre Ok Jen.
But I think the rural postie do a Really hard job and the amount of times come blasting round a corner to see a postie looking down the road before they revervse out of one of the hundreds of driveways they do every day Big ups to rural posties

Having lived in rural areas all my life I can appreciate what a rural postie does, perhaps that's why I didn't cause a scene. But she did a very slow u-turn around a blind bend, it was a particularly dangerous spot. The only thing that saved me was that I was not speeding, had there been a car following me however, I would have been collected from behind or I would have sqeezed past her and the car would have T-boned her, either way the whole thing would have been messy. Still don't think it was a wise move. Just my 2c worth.
