Im upgrading to another 250, the newest and cheapest most good looking bike is a GSX 250 2004 model but are they quick bikes or abit of a putter, I would be interested in somthing that is 165k plus does anyone know the top speeds of these bikes ?

They are only a inline twin, so they won't go any better than yours, and it puts out less horses.
If you want to go faster you will have to for a 2 smoker. KR-1S, RGV,RS,RSV,TZR.. ect
A 4 cylinder 4 stroke might be what your after thou, like a CBR or a ZXR..

just go round the bike shops and test ride a few,

All of these bikes will do 180+

i thought they were an inline straight four, but they dont rev as high as the others. If you can get your hands on a later model gs250 (katana) of some sort then you should be sweet. It runs the same engine as mine and doesnt look too bad eitehr. I've had mine doing 170 with slightly modified gearing at the sprokets. :ride:

Havnt heard alot of bad things, only that they weigh a shitload, and are a bit guttless.... PM Darryboy to find out the top speed of one.....

Yeo they are an Inline 2....

If you want performance, go for an early model ZXR/CBR 250.... They are easily capable of 180kmh... Then there are the 250 Two Strokes..... These are capable of about 205-215kmh...

Well I dont have alot to compare mine with but i think it goes alright.
As for top speed about 160 you need a hill and or tailwind to get much more out of it.

Is that really the top speed? :eek5: I would have thought that it would have gone much faster, I mean my FXR is only 150cc and I've taken it up to 140 so far on the flat, apparently it will go up to 150kph

But thats both standard, apparently FXR's are tuned to the max and aftermarket mods won't do much. Could you do much to your GSX?

If you dropped it out of an aeroplane it may get to over 165kmh. The GSX250 is a bit of a whale. OK for show but bugger all go. Most grey import 250s will bowl them no trouble for speed and handling.

1990 GSX 250 Fl is good for 160 kmh and the engine has more in it, the gearing is the only thing stopping the needle climbing some more-that, and running out of road !!!

I was going to get one, made sence, brand new 250 for the same price or a little more as a 15 year old one.
Intill I saw a pair of them nail it at the lights...I couldn't believe how slow they were...

Stick a new can on the VT and change the spocket for more top speed
and if your sill not happy we'll nitro it.

Howdy

Brought a GSX250 the other day, a very nice bike, a real head turner. Maybe thats because it looks like a smurf, but who knows.

Anyway, performance wise, in 6th its @ 9000rpm. The gear changes are too short. at 20km/h you are going from 1st - 2nd and all the other gears in quick succession. But as the last post said, put a different sprocket on it and you should be all sweet. I imagine that stock, this bike will hit 140 and that is about it. :argh:

She's an FXR150, only a few kg's heavier and much fatter. What's the economy like?

I would rather have the 2004 KRR ZX150, definitely faster 180k's+ and probably better handling than the GSX for the same money or less.
And definitely more unsual than the suzuki.

If I could find one to test ride, I would sell my ZXR and get one, if it's faster.

Those 2004 KRR ZX150 look awesome. Can't find too much info on them though, got any idea of what HP they put out?

If you want a mean bike, look at the CBR125RR (yes 125) or the RS125, or the Cagiva Mito 125 (looks like a Ducati 998).... those are MEAN bikes....

Madcat, the RGV250 has an actual speed of about 205kmh.... but on the speedo on a derestricted one, you get about 215 on the speedo, and on one worked by Ray Clee... about 230kmh.....

Yeah I agree, but we gotta talk realistic here, that 2004 KR 150 is a hell of a lot more realistic than a RS125 will be, well in the next few years or so that is. Would love an RS250... *dreams*

My advice is to wait till you have a full liscence and get a good 600 or 1000 or ofcourse a Harley. Cheers Toddy

My 1986 GF250 will take you to 50kmh on the dot in first gear. I've had it topped out at 160kmh with a little bit more in the revs (had two too many teeth on the sprocket), regeared i hit just under 170kmh on the way up to Silverdale. Probly had more, i thought that was fast enough so i dropped it back down to 130kmh :2guns:

Well, I tried a GSX250 when I was shopping. I bought the Bandit because it felt more nimble and had a bunch more go (70 in second, >110 in 3rd).
