I've just ordered a new Shoei XR1000 Kagayama (in blue/silver) from the helpful chaps at motomail.

My last lid was a HJC and took a severe beating in a recent bin.
When trying on the shoei in the shop, it felt about 1000 times more comfortable, and much more solidly built.
Now I'm thinking of shelling out the extra $180odd(!!) for a Shoei Iridium Blue Visor.

Its along shot, does anyone have a photo of a blue xr1000 kagy with the blue iridum on it? I'm pretty sure it'd look mint but thought i'd ask anyhow.
Anyone with the iridums want to comment on them? Worth the dollars? I always used my dark smoke before - i hate squinting in glarey light!

My helmet decided to bin itself in front of me (falling off bike) and took a serious crash, so its due for replacement..
I dont like shoei they dont seem to sit right on my noggin, maybe thats because I only have one brain cell...any other good brands to consider?

We bought the red version on that helmet for Unit. Bloody noice I tells ya!
Have heard differing opinions re the iridium visors and chose to go for the dark tint with a Pin Lock insert. Freaking awesome...excellent in the pouring rain and cold winter mornings/nights.
+1 for the whisper kit!

Kendog's blue Kagayama helmet looks good with the dark tint visor

One of mine is an X-spirit - looks excellent with the dark visor I reckon.
The Blue on blue would be way cool.

You can just feel the quality compared to cheaper helmets aye.

Someone told me the iridiums scratch rather easily? I'm going for the dark tinted visor ( it's also about half the price of the iridium ).

I've got the silver iridium visor on mine. It may scratch fairly easily but this shouldn't really bother you unless you are rough with it or clean it with sand paper. More likely you'll pick up a series of small stone chips which do spoil the look a little when up close but aren't really noticeable from a couple of metres away. A friend has blue iridium on his Arai Haga replica and it looks awesome. I'd buy one.

Smashed my iriduim blue lens with a bird strike at 220ks plus both clips off the side of the helmet $$$$$ to replace but bird never went through it so they are bloody strong & look pretty sweet !

Every mirrored visor I've ever seen has been covered in scratches. I personally couldn't handle scratches in a $180 visor so went for dark smoke for my XR-1000.
Then again blue on blue could be the new black on black
Best lid for the money as long as it fits your head AND they have the best designs as a bonus.

Scratches easy I'd not buy another. I'm pretty careful with my gear. Go for the tinted:first:

+1 to the XR-1000 being the best bang-for-buck helmet out there. I wear one. Amazing quality, lightness and comfort for $600 in plain black, $800 if you want a fancy paint job.
I went with the plain smoked visor, cos black on black is where it's at.
I reckon the blue on blue would look pretty pimp, though. Particularly if it matched one's bike and leathers.
It's all about the fashion, baby.

I don't have the iridum, but I think it would look pretty good with the blue. The dark tint also looks damn good IMHO.

Black XR1000, darkest tint visor... then add a whisper kit and nose guard thing.
Even provides amusement for all my riding mates, while I struggle through (in and out) the whisper kit at each stop.

. The SHoei dark tint is OK, Bolle sunglasses on underneath - but quite acceptable apart from some slight strange colouration effects.
That would be because your sunnies are a quality polarised lens. I cant wear mine under either the clear or tinted Shoei visor, weird colouration is just too freaky and gives me a headache after a while.

I got the XR-1000 Rouge with a chrome mirrored visor! I also came from an old HJC lid too. I love the XR-1000!!! It's a super nice helmet and the mirror tint is amazing. It's more hassle than your regular dark tint but I believe it's worth it. It looks mint!

Nup.
They're not a model with polarised lenses.
It's merely a very slight optical distortion . I don't get it with the clear visor + sunnies, just with the tinted visor.
Must be a different effect for you. I wear glasses and recently upgraded my sunnies to a prescription polarised. I get a flashing rainbow on both the clear and tinted visor when wearing them. When I look at other UV glass like windscreens I get the flashing rainbow and a bonus 3D type shimmery silvery blue distortion that makes me want to fall over. I don’t get it with my normal specs or other prescription sunnies that aren’t polarised. Could be a lens distortion thing I spose but I put it down to the polarisation.
Edit - Its the polarisation for sure. So if you want to use a clear visor with sunnies then dont buy polarised
I wear the dark tint now cept night time, but the clear sunnies combination was OK as well because I didn’t need to phaff around changing specs on a bright day when I stop for a break. Mind you, now I look more like Darth Vader which is great

I agree that polarised sunglasses under any visor cause visual disturbance and mild 'blind spots'

You'll probably find that Arai & AGV helmets fit you if the Shoei doesn't.
