View Full Version : Places to practice near Auckland?

Is there anywhere to ride near the Auckland area that would be good for just practicing general riding/technique? I'm finding most places that I ride a bit bland, and without any real challenges. It would be good to ride a place that has few more obstacles to negotiate rather than just race round.
Anyone know of anywhere that might be suitable?

Try river head without sitting down, if you can stand for an entire lap, which you should be anyway.
Now that should make it a bit more trickyer.

I'm going to go to the riverhead ride this Friday, but it's not a place you ride when ever you want.
And to the guy who suggested woodhill, I like the place, but not in the summer.

Where is this place you can ride in riverhead? I've given up going there as I keep getting told off by rangers.

Don't ride there unless its an organised or you will ruin it for us all. Get hold of the WMCC as they run all the events there.

Yeah, I've stopped riding there now. Talked to a ranger there and he told me why they are clamping down (lots of thefts etc). Been riding there for about 20 years (grew up there, mountain biking, trail rides) with no problems until recently.
From what was said I thought they might have built something like woodhill...got all excited!!

Na there is a mountina bike area that is always open (as far as I know) but yeah it sucks that now you can't ride anywhere without forking out at least $20. I grew up in Napier and everyone used to go down to the river to have a ride. Mind you the tracks conditions here is worth paying for.
