Hey dudes, as you know i changed the spark plug two days ago and it seems that it's gone and f*****d up again. The bgikes not kicking into life anymore and again i had to take the cage to work :crybaby:, any ideas as to why the spark plug has gone and shat itself in two days?? Starting to get real fed uo with two stroke maintenance, i look after my bike like it's a religion, i rev the nuts off her, keep her topped up with prem oil and gas. Thanks heaps.

Are you properly warming the bike up? My only experience with 2 strokes is off-road, but if you don't warm them up then they can foul (or worse, cold-seize).

What does the plug look like? Do you actually know it is the plug? (Remember, I said to buy two ) Two smokers. It's what they do, it's why we luvs them

I always let her warm up for five min in the morn before going, i'm running motul 2T 510 oil in her, and i always ride her between 10 and 12 revs when i can. On cold mornings i have the choke set to full with one click back to start her. Even on hot days she needs choke. Need to get her running hopefully today! My only form of transport, the cage im using is too gas hungry lol

It's a Suzuki and it's a two stroke. After owning 3 suzuki 2 strokes I did myself a huge favour by
a) Never owning another suzuki
b) Never owning another 2 stroke.

Honestly, they're more bother than they're worth. Swap it for a boring as hell 4 stroke 125 or something. 2 strokes belong in lawnmowers and race-bikes.

With the choke on the whole time? Five minutes seems excessive. I start my bike, put on my gear, and ride her gently for a little bit.

Only use the choke to start the bike, then take the choke off as soon as she'll run without it. Certainly don't leave it on for a whole five minutes. That'll almost flood/foul a four stroke, let alone a two-stroke single.

Get a CBR non of my CBR's ever needed choke to start up whether the weather was cold or hot....

Yes 5 mins on the choke is too long. Start with choke for 30 seconds then turn it off...and let it idle.

My KR150 seemed to like to have the choke on for 5ish minutes. Accidentally leaving it on for much longer  didn't seem to do it any harm.

Most of my two strokes require choke for about five minutes to run cleanly. It's a two smoker thing. 'Tis why we luvs them

i'll pick up some standard plug today..see if i can get some that run hotter than norm. Can't afford iridiums anymore too expensive sigh...hey stephen can i run it over to your place tonight? *lol i hope you don't start charging people* Think i'll take her apart tonight and check the plug. *or anybody keen to run over for five and help figure out why she's dying on me*...like ixion said tis why we luv em *she's not getting any love at the mo tho...bad two stroke bad bad two stroke*

Be VERY VERY careful doing this (hotter plugs) . Much pistony pain may await.

I only use standard plugs on two strokes nowdays. My experience with irdium and platinum and octiron is variable at best.

Seriously? I would've thought a stroker would be the last thing to need such a warm-up. Perhaps I should stop being ignorant and trying to apply four-stroke logic to two-strokes :innocent:

Sorry. Remember I'm the guy who rebuilds his carb to try and fix ignition issues.

Good luck -- maybe it just needs MOAR THROTTLE

Again, my knowledge is from off road, but 2 strokes do need a lot of warming up - sounds like you are already on to it though. However, if you are experiencing fouling, then check your jetting before you try running hotter plugs. Hotter plugs are just a quick way to burn a hole through the top of your piston, which makes them an expensive way to try to fix the issue.

There is a good guide to jetting on this thread in Off Road:

Hope this helps.

Another thing worth checking is you don't have a loose connection or broken wire in the plug lead - happened to me when I raced karts, could never understand why plugs kept fouling up until somone unwound the lead and there it was. If the plugs not sparking properly it would oil up pretty quick I would think.

So i took the plug out and checked it but alas the plug was not fouled. I am now at a loss as to why it wasn't starting. I replaced the plug anyway with a standard one albeit one which runs slightly hotter, well we will see what happens tomorrow morning.

i might advise against running a plug that's hotter than it needs to be...

so to quote myself from another thread...

watch out when using a hotter plug though... i'm told that the extra heat can melt/soften the piston and consequently ruin your engine in the worst possible way

see if the manual says anything, see what other RG150s are running, and maybe it's running rich due to a clogged air filter? when was the last tune up/service? it seems weird that the last owner never switched to a hot plug, and the old one looked pretty old

choke could be stuck on or dirty fuel
to much oil mix

Do you have a spark. Find a place a bit in shadow. Take out the plug, connect the plug wire to it and rest it on the cylinder head, Now kick the bike over, You should see a nice fat blue spark at the plug. If you do (given it's a new plug) it's unlikely that the plug is your trouble.

It make just be sulking. Quite seriously, two strokes seeme to do that. They'll play up, won't start, misfire, bog down , anything for a few days. Then without doing anything at all, they'll be absolutely good and go like a cat with a red hot rat up its arse. They're strange things. Is why we luvs them

yeah, my pocket rocket does that.... will start only if and when it pleases... regardless of the fact it was just running mint 30 seconds ago. sometimes i just don't turn it off and refuel it while it's running for fear of it not starting again

plus there was the classic episode where the family parked next to ours at an offroad event had their youngest child on a KX80 (2-smoke). apparently it started fine when they put it on the trailer that morning, but they spent the whole day pulling it to bits trying to find why it wouldn't start. plenty of guys came and had a look, but it never ringed nor dinged the whole day... poor kid just sat there watching his dad and everyone else the whole day:no:

They're not for the common rabble.

Lol the suzuki people said it's only slightly hotter so should not do anything, i love my two storke, it's just when she make me push her home uphill in the pouring rani that she tests me. As for mental resilience, i'm getting it as i haven't lost it completely with her yet...plus shes puuurty and that makes up for her attitude. Had to warm her up for like six min this morning and even after that she was a bit reluctant to up and go but soon settled down with a bit of a thrashing.

That's why a got the Ducati. It's nearly as reliable as a 2 stroke :-)

Seriously, though.

If you
a) need reliable transport
b) haven't got reasonable mechanical skills
then don't get a 2 stroke.

If you want a bike
a) with "character"
b) that will put a massive grin on your mug when it hits the power band
c) can put up with it throwing tantrums on sunny weekends
d) where you need to keep changing spark plugs
e) where you often have to take the head off it for a rebore and new piston
f) that gets 25 miles to the gallon on the 2 days a year its running correctly
then do get a 2 stroke

I had lots of trouble with the spark plug fouling when I got my rg back from the shop. They had upped the oil to fuel ratio. Though it's probably not a wise idea messing with that.
