What a great weekend made even better by a quick (and gentle) cruize this morning. Not yet got my new wee machine but was allowed to take the sv out for a wee stretch...not that I stretched it of course!
Anyway everytime I get on that bike I wonder what I'm being so dramatic about...I always get along ok and find it comfy and well behaved.
Thanks to a friend who helped egg me on (along with hubby) and rode very slowly so as not to loose me. Pity about all the traffic chick! ...I know you were probably half asleep but I really enjoyed it even at that nana pace and it was good for me to be able to watch you too.
The little one lung CB is gonna be frustrating though....it occured to me everytime I overtook someone...."Couldn't overtake here on the CB"
Oh well once again that will no doubt help motivate me to knock off the license stages and get to full in 6 months ...now all I need is the damn bike which I''m actually legally allowed to ride so I can sit me license!
.:love::Punk::woohoo:
Thanks again to my friend and my hubby (who not only was a little pushy about me getting my butt on the bike again  but also let me take his machine out today despite having been invited for a ride himself)...
Your belief in me and patience at my silly under-estimations of self are appreciated. I loved it out there today and can't wait to get back on something and get out there again!

Well. Yesterday Number One said she wants to go for a ride tonight. So this morning I get an email asking me to:
...remind me why I should pull my finger out and JUST DO IT.
So, I thought I'd invite encouragement from other fine KB ladies, as to why Number One should get her butt on a two-wheeled steed tonight.
Sorry S, but pike out? I don't think so!

Hhhhmmmmmkay....Now that I have my undies and leather pants soaking in NapiSan I shall do a report back...as YES I did in fact get my arse on that bike.
The lovely BV kindly lent me her 'silver bullet' (which is the same as hubbies, minus the race suspension it felt like a very different animal).
Hubbies one is definitely my bitch...but the silver bullet felt like I was it's bitch. Bit slower and heavier to turn in and so I had to be a lot more deliberate and positive..felt spongey under turning and braking too so was caught out big time round the inlet by all this.
(hubbies has Ohlins race suspension and is quite stiff and quick to turn in - he thought I might not notice a difference and neither did I since I'm a nana and all - figured only the fast peeps would feel the difference)
SO what happened then? Crawling round the inlet (much slower than the other day...not to grips with the difference in steering and feel...and definitely TOO worried about the worst case scenario of binning my friends bike) spied a couple of bikes in the distance catching up...keeping left hoping they just go past me - they going much faster than I and I didn't really need either an audience or the self imposed pressure to go faster thank I was comfortable with....first guy passes....all good....second guy waits till a safer point in the road and also passes (after enduring a very sloooooowwww right hander behind me...SORRY DUDE!!!)
BV and them disappear around a few bends.......gosh they are great to watch, as they disappear! When I grow up I wanna be that confident too.
So initially happy just poootling along like a nana but then...OH wait BV might think I'm a bit 'tooo far' behind and get worried....on with the gas (but not that much btw) down a straight.
Corner coming up...slow down...slow down...slow down...turning in...turning in...turning in....looking round the bend...looking round the bend...hmm doesn't feel like I'm actually going raound this bend (shudda just been thinking 'I am going round this' and looking where going) shit! I don't seem to be going round this bend?....and as I am thinking this I'm also thinking hmmm too close to centre line...hmmm there's a van coming the other way....hmmm driver looking worried - crikey mate I'm worried too!!!... shit this might hurt a lot...fuck what have I done?
object fixation
oh my god I'm gonna write off my friends bike....oh my god I'm gonna write me off, oh my god....everything slowwwwwssss down...........
In kicks booming voice in head - Wake up!!! CONCENTRATE on WHERE you want to go and STEER DAMMMIT or you will be plastered on the front of that van!!!!
HEAVE the bars...stand bike up....oh thank god I'm back in the centre of my lane...toooo close for comfort! Thankyou voice in head!
(Possible that it wasn't as close as it felt but not willing to go back and do it again to see.)
This happened quite early in the ride so had me quite rattled for the remainder of it - hence went even slooooooowwwwwerrrrrr and felt, well sick actually....
HOWEVER I thought of Stirts giving me a telling off and so forced myself to not chicken out and just go straight home and instead went the rest of the way round the inlet and then back round once more and home again without any 'events'.
BV thanks for the ride and for loaning me the silver bullet and for thinking of me and looking for me the whole way, and for considering the route with my rusty status in mind and for being sooo damn good in general about everything. Just quietly though....I was sooooo pleased to return the SB to your garage in one piece and without any cracked or broken bits - I just about cried actually....not that you'd know that cos according to plastic and botox Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry.
Oh gosh I need to HTFU I know...but it was just quite a come down from the grouse ride I had on Monday when everything felt great - I was the boss, throwing the bike around with all the confidence in the world, maintaining a respectable (but safe) pace and just loving every minute of it!
So there you have it! Yes I got on today...Yes I will get on again in the future...next time I'll know what to expect.
All in all I'd sum up by saying...foreign bike which I was tooo worried about wrecking (not hard to ride by any means, just not what I'm used to), too much worry in general so not relaxed, need to be more positive and deliberate with the bars, avoid OBJECT FIXATION!!!!
Ova and out...slightly saddened and set back slug

Hhhhmmmmmkay.... YES I did in fact get my arse on that bike.
1. You rode bloody well.
2. You were riding a bike you weren't familiar with. And even after said moment you still rode bloody well.
Talk about face of steel, I had no idea how big a moment it was. Even at conclusion of ride, you gave nothing away. It wasn't until I read this that I realised. Wish you had talked to me about it more. Hmmm are you the stwong silent type?
I'm sorry you had a moment at all, and so early on. I'll say it again, I don't give a rats arse about that bike (in a very 'I'll look after you til you die but I really couldn't give a fuck if you do die' kinda way), so you couldn't have done any wrong. I care about you.
I know you were nervous. And I know you were worried about binning it. I only wish I could've conveyed how much I don't give a shit about the bike so you could relax more.
And yeah, the stock suspension etc would feel very different to C's race spec SV. I suppose I hoped the build up through the back of Wilton/Khandallah etc would help put you at ease and give you slower paced corners to familiarise yourself with the bike.
Sorry the ride sucked compared to the other day S. It was an unfamiliar bike, so try not to compare it or let it put you off riding it, or C's bike, again.
You have to get back on a steed.

Don't let moments like that get you down Sweetpea, think of it as a learning curve (not a nice one, but one just the same). If it went well all the time how would we learn how to react in a 'situation'! And it sounds to me like the voice in your head is farken spot on....WELL DONE!!!

It's just the basics and I guess I need to remember that while I used to be 'Unconsciuosly Competent', I.E; didn't have to think too much about it just did all that stuff naturally - Now, after such a long break I have drifted back to being "Consciously Competent" - that is I still know know what I need to do and when but I have to concentrate on it until it once again become unconsious. You just have to change your mindset S. People who are trying to get quicker/better put pressure on themselves to go fast uphill and then freak about going downhill... its a different kettle.
I use the downhill section to really concentrate on riding smooth and thinking about what I'm doing in the corners because I don't have to worry about accelerating and keeping my speed up so much. Just keeping a neutral throttle and concentrating on lines, keeping my bike moving, establishing a rhythm, sweeping through the bends. Its no where near as chaotic as going fast uphill.
Make sense?

Used to ride the hill on me two-fiddies....it's just the down hill bits I don't enjoy  Not sure if it is something others suffer from but I just hate to go down....
No, but I can understand the feeling. Your front tyre is always a bit more loaded going downhill so you are much more aware of any movement from the front end.
Most of the time around the 'burbs I just leave the SV in third (sometimes second), and just gentley roll the throttle on or off.
As Skelstar has said just relax, concentrate on your line, and be as smooth as you can on your inputs (both throttle, and brake). It'll all be second nature again in no time.

Atleast I woulda come up with an excuse! ...you just stood me up! :crybaby: No texts, no phone call...sniff sniff...I thought we had something good? looks away wistfully.... Still having trouble with that phone of yours my dear?
SE handles much nicer with the new front on - man what a difference! Just felt lurvely...now I just need to click in properly. Did feel like I made him more MY BITCH tonight.
Only a sedate trip round the bays and then a fang out to UHutt to show him off to ma daddy...who did a great job of ohhhing and ahhhing and chortling appreciatively at the throaty growl.
I felt too that even on the long straight boring motorway I got more in tune with the bike, used to where the revs sit, how it feels, reacts and generally what it does...oh and of course there's that sound.....owwwww I do love that sound!
Need to just keep riding it, not expect tooo much of myself (put pressure on) and concentrate on getting the old basics right, natural, smooth and getting used to operating the thing while keeping an eye on and avoiding run ins with those other buggas we share the road with who are all out to kill me! :shifty:
New gears arriving tomorrow. My first pair of motorcycle boots and cordura!!!! ....mmmmm nice light, flexible, slidey cordura with real armour.... Leather feels very 'supportive' and is good but I hate that I feel stuck in place on the bike I need to be free.....aaaaaaa
Exciting that this will be the first time in my riding life when I have been able to get gears that weren't 'just the cheapest available' - crikey they sting though so I wasn't able to go to the top of line.. But does feel very flash and lovely!:woohoo: Ladies gear is so much better and more available than it used to be when I was first riding too...yay! No more saggy baggy crutches, too tight thighs and loose waists
Anyway getting to love my bike more and more each day. Looking forward to commuting tomorrow... bit more entertaining than usual in the old people mover :bleh: Pity I won't be looking quite so turned out at work but bugga them! They didn't appreciate it anyway :bleh::msn-wink:

Got out and went up the line to pie cock.
Lurvely day for a wee tootle. But have a question....do bike cops have mufti bikes? Saw a whole bunch of them about sorry typical girl just noticed they were a pretty cobalt blue colour.
And I learned some stuff too...
There's no place better on a sunny day than cruising on two wheels overlooking gorgeous sea views.
Cheesecutter barriers are disconcerting to be riding along next to in traffic...ignorance is bliss eh?
It always pays to stick to the 50k speed limit in 50k areas as round that corner there will be a towtruck towing an oversized trailor who will pull out without indicating! Just as well I'm so conservative :innocent:
Bike cops don't wave or acknowledge other bikers...sad mofos...couldn't they tell how excited and enthusiastic I was and I wasn't doing anything dum?! (except of course bothering to acknowledge them) Grumpy cooonts!
I'm a pleasure rider not a speed racer . Total nana and actually I find that as long as I'm on my bike (even in the 50k areas) I love and enjoy every moment :love:

Well my gear is fab and I love it. Definately the best fitting gear I've ever had - first lot of 'ladies gear'...it really does make a difference
...Cordura is hotter, wetter and stickier than leather is in the heat though...ewwwww
Anyway, I've had a couple of epiphanies in my first few weeks of being the proud owner of a new (to me) motorcycle and thought to share something that really has made a huge and obvious difference for me as I get build my confidence and get 'Back on the road again!'.
Wind riding....after taking on the advice I find that wind riding doesn't bother me. I learned that you need to keep your upper body really relaxed cos when you stiffen up in the gusts you make your bike into even more of a sail :bash: But of course! I get it now and after some long calm casual travels in buffeting gusts I don't worry anymore :sunny:
BRAKES: I had been privately wondering whether I had actually made a mistake getting back into riding. I was feeling really distrustful of the brakes but assumed (given it had passed a warrant and all) that it was because I had just completely lost the knack and wasn't probably anything to do with the bike. I kept having moments where I'd needed to pull up fast and the bike just didn't want to stop! So growing increasingly rattled by this I then started riding around in the low gears - I mean 1st, 2nd and third - AND like everywhere! Relying on a combination of lots of engine, rear AND front braking to slow down...not nice, not fun and poor bike!
But wait - hubby rode it on the last TRTNR and deduced that it definately was worth checking things out further. He decided to service the brake calipers and far out! there was some serious gunk on the pistons, mucking up the seals and well it was no surprise that the brakes weren't feeling terribly responsive...they probably were stuck in off! So after some attention from the Sulster  the calipers were fit to eat off and then it was time to test it all out....
:sunny:
Magic!!!! What a HUGE difference that made:yes: All of a sudden I could even hear the pads on the discs!!!!! AND WOW - it stops, like almost straight away! I even had the confidence to practise emergency braking...several times and it was definately emergency speed braking! AND now I am able to get around in 4th and 5th gears at no lower than 3.5 grand
:innocent:
SO - if you have a second hand bike or an old new one and you are feeling a bit doubtful of the brakes - CHECK YER CALIPERS THEY REALLY MATTER!!!

Hey Number One, I've been following your updates in this thread, it's great to read about your confidence building up again and that you're really enjoying being on the road again....
I've been riding since I was 16, but for one reason or another have had breaks where I've not had a road bike. You would think you could just jump straight back on (my hubby can!) but it usually takes me a few rides to get used to again.
Living in the UK at the moment I don't ride much during winter (woos, I know!) But the weather has been so bright and lovely lately that I went out a couple of weekends ago. I felt nervous at first but that could have been nervousness about my navigation skills as I was heading out of London to visit a friend in Kent!! For some reason I'm not so confident riding by myself over here, I don't think I would have a problem if I was back in Wellington as I know the roads (or used to anyway!), but I am so used to riding with either my husband or brother over here that it feels a bit strange being on my own.
I got out of London ok, with my turn left here, turn right there instructions written in my map holder, then was busy looking up at the signs for the road I was meant to be on when I looked down to see the two right lanes of the road had been closed and all traffic was filtering into the left lane and was just about stopped. I had a holy shit moment but quite naturally did an emergency stop calmly looking around to see if anyone noticed that I stopped a bit quick!!
Sorry, that turned into a bit of a waffle.... but my point was, you sometimes feel like a newbie again, but instinct kicks in and you realise you haven't forgotten what you've known for years!!!!!
Cheers
J

yum.
Much nicer on a hot day than cordura and boy did my confidence go back up again - I felt supported and protected and all good! Now that was probably also due to the fact that about 4-6 weeks ago I couldn't even get the things up over my hips so having lost a bit of excess ballast I was feeling pretty good about myself anyway....I had a great ride on my bike today. Felt really 'in charge' and confident and relaxed and I was riding better than I have been.
Then I went for a slow and awkward ride on hubbies bucket bike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3eICwijJT4(as I will be taking a stab at that this year in an effort to learn more and get more confident with cornering) and while I was rather poor I did manage to do tight circles in second gear without any clutch slipping - oh yeah the clutch is not really required and the gear shift patter is opposite so anyway that took some getting used to but proudly I never changed down when I shoulda been changing up....wouldn't be a good look to blow the thing up the first time I get on it huh?!
THEN - I got back onto my SE and had a fab ride around to Eastbourne, gorgeous calm night, nice gentle sweepy corners and gorgeous views and no need for brakes. Gosh that bucket made me really realise how fab my bike is and I went better and faster than I have to date. Nice that almost every time I get on I improve and even better I get more and more comfortable. :sunny:
Gonna book in for my restricted - convinced a guy at work to lend me his CBR250 just gotta get an L plate :innocent:

It's inevitable. You have to drop the bike doing something just useless when you are returning to it.
Pulled up onto the curb outside my place last night, into nuetral, swing leg off while looking down the driveway at hubby opening the gate for me (very steep gravelly driveway with big bumps in it, not yet confident to ride down it) as I stepped off the bike leant towards the road and over....I hadn't got my back tyre up onto the level with the front, so I just got off balance and ended up dropping it on the pavement.
Broke the Gear shifter and the clutch lever, however that didn't really bother me at least the fairing is still unscratched and pretty....phew! A bit of a Macgyver from hubby got me a new gear shifter and with the rough edges filed off the shortened clutch lever is waay better.
Discovered the other day through following someone else and thinking about what we were doing differently that I was WAAAY overusing the clutch. HORRIBLE and DANGEROUS - when I thought about this some more I could remember where I'd grabbed handfuls of clutch - coming into and going around corners - fast braking - yech I feel damn lucky actually with all that going on!
I think I developed this when I was having trouble with the brakes and was having to use the engine to slow down a lot, would shadow and slip the clutch alot. I think some of this is my innate fear of stalling (which I just hate to do) and also that I rode a two stroke for the first couple of years of my riding.
Anyway - I have been avoiding the clutch and once again I feel more confident, I can go really low speed in many of my gears without requiring any clutch and gawd it feels better and more controlled in corners!
The first steps to solving a problem is recognising and admitting that you have one. I recognise, admit and am taking steps to correct. Phew glad I figured that out relatively quickly
Oh and on the note of leathers - crouched too hard and fast the other day and popped my crotch! Damn  Oh well What I have found is that I have lost enough weight over the last month or so that I can get into hubbies old race one piece easily - yay! Inside me there is a slim woman screaming to get out...once day I just might let her:bleh:
First bucket race tomorrow - hopefully I shall learn something really helpful and add to my confidence with cornering.

Nah. Mine goes good all round so not really too fussed about messing with the motor much.
He can keep his carbs + as his isn't fully logging on at the moment and mine is working properly - if it ain't broke don't fix it I reckon!

Well, the Number One SV is getting a bit more use than the Sully SV!
Really glad you got your handling/braking issues sorted. Personally, I reckon the SV650/S is the most under-rated bike around. As mentioned previously, I did all the suspension mods on Gassit Girl's K1 SV, and when she got her K5, I did them all over again. She loved both of them, and so for that matter, did I ( that is, of course, whenever I had permission from headquarters to ride them)

I had a bugger of a job to convince Gassit Girl that we should put an Ohlins shock on her first SV. The K1 was only 5 days old when it had the cartridge emulators done (at the first service), and after about 4 months she gave in and let me put the shock on. After one ride she was sold on the idea!
I reckon it's more of an investment, rather than cost, to spend a bit of dosh on the SV suspension... it makes a good bike bloody awesome

The SE is now almost back to it's orginal self.
Went pillion on it the other night and given time constraints we didn't have time to pop the whole fairing on and so just put the seat and pillion pegs back on....out with no pants on he was.
I felt so embarrassed :pinch:
Anyway it was a good lesson to go up and down the Rimas on the back though I'd probably have preferred a slightly more leisurely trip
The bike is going really well and my confidence is growing all the time....AND most important I JUST LOVE IT. It is the only place that I can really just do and enjoy and zone in on completely to the exclusion of other pressures.
Some days everything just *clicks* and I feel great. Those times are getting closer and closer together and it is satisfying to feel the improvements even if only small ones.
The weather is now becoming a factor and I begrudgingly put my liners back in the cordura - should have done it sooner but I guess I was hopeful that this was a minor and fleeting blip in the weather as opposed to the reality which is that Summer has gone :crybaby:
Not too worried about the weather now that the forks and rear suspension have changed as the stock equipment seemed be quite prone to being pushed around by the wind but now the bike hardly moves at all. Plus I spent years commuting from Upper Hutt in traffic in all weather so not too concerned and I guess too given I got my knee down in the wet twice at the buckets that wetness is at least not too much of a concern to my brain at this stage - what do need to be mindful of though on the road is that I am not on Wet Race tyres and that the SV has a bit more get up and go than the little ZX140Rc so less traction and more power...careful girl
I've also been lent some proper road boots and my gosh what a difference! Thanks again to the lovely lady concerned :niceone: it is just awsome - both on the bucket and on the road. Much less bulky and I have a lot more feel and subtlety to my gear changing and low speed braking (though don't use the back much). SO now that I have my back protector and much better gloves my fundage for bike investments will be on some boots next...if I can ever bloody find someone who can get me what I want :2guns:
Bucket racing has been awesome for my cornering skills and confidence and all the corners on the road that usd to make me a touch nervous on the SE - I now laugh at! HAHAHAHAHAHAAA ha you piddly little corner that I can get around no worries! :buggerd:
My next big challenges are to sit my tests (which I just know I can ace - just need to stop procrastinating) AND the other BIG challenge is to attack my driveway and once and for all - start riding down it!
The story goes like this....
Because this is the prettiest bike I've ever owned I'm really protective of the front fairing. I really want to keep it intact. We have a steap, rutted out gravel driveway and at the bottom of that is a flat soupy pit of gravel and now it's getting wintery again it is also very claylike in places. As I hate going down hill anyway and hate the surface I have been unable to make myself jump over that hurdle and ride down the driveway on my new bike.
I used to do this? It's something that literally started from when I got the SE and purely out of fear for ruining the fairing...
I certainly back myself more elsewhere but for some reason I have a mental block with my driveway. I even used to ride the OB down it...derr it's the same bike only it's hubbies and has no front fearing! It's kinda irrational I know, but I just feel more comfortable getting off at the top and walking it down in nuetral while covering the brake.
I'll just go get a hammer and hit myself with it I think....
Anyway -
Rock on!!!
I just love being
Back on the road again!

I did indeed HTFU and this afternoon after  *doing* the Takas I finally made myself go up and over the pavement and driveway drop off and rode all the way down to the bottom.
Funny that as I was doing it I got this kind of body memory tingle of sorts- kind of like de ja vu except that you KNOW you have done this before.
Must push through stupid little mental blocks
Knocked two off today.
Rode the Takas with the Kendogs (cheers guys and thanks for being happy to stop off FOR me at the bottom) and for the first time since I've been riding the SE over it I actually enjoyed it. It was not the fastest I have been over there (most of that's been as a pillion!) but it was a good speed, I wasn't worrying about *making up ground* on the bits I was comfortable on just trying to ride within my abilities and smoothly.
Thanks too Skelstar (Your voice was ringing in my ears)Be smooth, concentrate on getting the corners right, don't worry about your lack of speed and above all try to relax and just look where you want to go.

Well everything was going well up until a couple of weeks back when I binned the race bike, twice in quick succesion - losing the front. Both front end losses, the first hilarious and gentle but the second flung me up in the air and had me tumbling...nothing major, but not fun and very sore for the week afterwards.
Made me realise just how good race suits are...hate to think what 'could' have been if I'd just been in my corduras...and they were only little bins at relatively low speed...and there were no cars or curbs around. Must get a leather armoured suit for the road...not a one piece though - togs, togs, togs....undies! OR cool, cool, cool...tossy looking poser
SO, this all had me feeling nervy and awkward cornering on the SV too and I was not enjoying it or feeling as natural and comfortable as much as I had been.
Side note: Hubby reckons this is a girl thing. He reckons that when he has binned a bike due to (for instance) a dodgy front end he doesn't then get on other bikes and feel cautious because he knows (for instance) that that other bike has a really good front end......tell me...is it really only girls who when they have binned one bike in a certain way feel tentative doing those same things on OTHER bikes?
ANYWAY - this was really bothering me but I continued to ride and push myself...deciding that it was purely in my head and I just needed to HTFU and rebuild my confidence through just doing it.
During this period I had been waiting to be taught the ropes for running the compressor and other bits and bobs (which we have 'in-house') needed to adjust and maintain our own tyres. SO...long story short I hadn't been checking or filling them and the riding I was doing was to and from work, running late and travelling in rush hour traffic. Yes I know...wait...I'm getting to it!
THEN two weeks or so ago, I decided as I was filling up at the gas station to check them and put air in if required. Which I did. ..they weren't embarrassing but phoar what an improvement. I rode around for a week and though it felt much better than it was I was conscious of still not feeling 'quite sure of and trusting in' the front end.
SO last weekend I marched into the garage, interrupted hubby and made him show me where the bits and bobs were, what order to plug things in and turn things on in and I was let loose. Further to that I chose to put pressure in the tyres at the rate which the manufacturers sticker on the swingarm recommended and VOILA! Bike improved! I got my mojo back.
The real cool thing reflecting back on it though, was that I felt the difference between the first and second fill (which was only 2 psi in the front) as a huge improvement. AND while I was able to cope with the shitty pressures, and noticed when they were improved but could also feel that the better but still not 'quite' right pressure was not quite right.
SO - me and the compressor have been having some good times lately. adjusting my tyres....being less than mechanical myself, tyres is something tangible and important that I can do without needing any supervision :baby: and it just makes such a nice difference to be running the right pressures.

So when are you gonna start on the suspension?
Then of course you will be needing MORE power!

Good on ya chick! I think I'll be the same when I come off, weary, but I also think it's caution obtained from learning something, if you jumped straight onto any bike and hadn't learned anything from your off then you wasted a good learning opportunity and learned nothing (yep, fucked if I know if that made sense!)
Also know what you mean about tyre pressure. On the Hornet, because I'm so used to how it feels, I notice a difference in tyre pressure pretty quick, it feels weird, doesn't respond how it normally does, it squiggles or hops, then upon checking tyre pressure it can often be out by only a couple of psi, but you can feel it. I find it a pain when changing tyres though, cause it takes some time to get used to how normal feels again.
Anyway, go hard hun, and bring on next Sunday!!!!:niceone:

I'd like to clarify my position on this so I don't come across as a sexist pig and not the sexy pig I am.
I think that females have a much stronger inbulit sense of survival as opposed to men, this probably goes back to prehistoic days when we're told that women stayed in the cave, cooked food and tended babies when us men went out and captured Mammoths and Sabre Toothed Tigers in between fashioning tools to kill them.
My point is that women seem to remember the pain and violence of a crash more vivdly than men and take more positive steps to avoid doing it again.
My example of this comes from me riding the very same bike and having the very same type of crash in the same place. I changed my style somewhat in response but didn't slow down, then I got a bit complacent and crashed again, in the same place:doh:
I just think that women tend to learn from these types of mistakes differently than men and take bigger steps back from the edge.
Does that clear things up? How about this...

Anyway been a while since I put my thoughts about being back on the road down in this thread...which is like a wee diary for me now. If you don't like it ...don't fricken read it ok!
Bike is due for tyres and a WOF  this is the part I hate...time to find some pingas in the bank.
Was thinking of attending my first ColdKiwi but not yet decided - will depend on money and given the above I don't have any :crybaby: the plan though IS to go for some good long rides (just as soon as the weather allows it) and get my arse to the 2 day bucket racing event at Taupo for Christmas...might need to ride SV up for that...that's a nice long ride.
Anyway - I have learnt that only a small difference in my tyre pressures IS noticeable, that I need to check and inflate them regularly - like once a week at least. That I can get a speed camera ticket when approaching from the front (it were a mobile one) and that bucket racing is critical at the moment for my on road comfort. It's been a couple of months since I binned the bucket and I haven't been out racing since...the confidence improvement on the road after a day going balls out at the Slipway is not just in my head it's strong.
Note to self: get gaskets so oil stays in LedSled...will be very pissed off if I am stuck just riding the 50...I'm currently tied for first points wise and I'd really like to win - though it is fun I suspect this will be my only real chance to do well at this bucketting thing...next year I won't be a first year anymore and will be thrown in with the people that really do know what they are doing.
Anyway - love the bike, dying to get a good ride on it and still need to build my confidence cornering.
Find I slow down way tooo much...especially on roads that I don't know or that I know I am not confident on. End up kicking myself all through the ride...youknow....why did I slow down that much? Could've got round there better JUST NEED PRACTISE..and it's a nice day and I feel like shit and can't stop effing sneezing so I can't even take advantage of it!!! :argh:

Better to get round the corner a little too slow than too fast and end up in the shit I always say.
You're probably going a lot faster than you think you are anyway. I keep saying to Nige that I don't think my riding has improved but he keeps telling me it has and that I'm only gauging it on how far behind him I get, but he's improving too.
You ride really good from what I saw, nice and safe, and at the end of the day, that's the most important thing. :2thumbsup

True that - practise practise practise and a little bit of patience I think. Just feels like I should be closer to the comfort I used to feel. All good with the boooquets? AND yeah feels good to be in a position to make good on my online promise to get the license all sorted before Christmas...means that trip to Taupo will be a nice legal one :sweatdrop:

So an update.
I received the exemption to sit my full license in Aug but after some clarification found that this meant I was still unable to ride my bike legally.
SO booked the full practical test in and passed it easily. WTF was I worried about. Anyway this means I've now been fully licensed and insured and all that palava for around the last 2 weeks (or so).
Never thought it would make much difference to me but it soooo does. I even went out the other night and rode home after 10pm
I'm a big kid now!
Today I went for the longest ride I have done in like forever...about 8 - 10 years?!!! Thanks to the dogs for taking me out and letting me tag behind :grouphug: it were a grand day to tootle around Wairarapas back roads. I had all but forgot the sense of satisfaction that comes from cruising along on long clear open roads, sweepy turns and nothing but grass, sheep and cows around for miles.
My visor is covered in bugs, the Takas get less intimidating each time I ride them (although still have a mind block going down hill) and I very much enjoyed my first ride in my lovely new fantastic SIDI boots :woohoo:
Being back on the road again EFFING ROCKS! Bring on more lovely sunny days like today :sunny:
AND....I cracked MY land speed record  which I won't mention here lest it be held against me in a court of law.

I was the only one eating pies. Actually it was a sausage roll, but it was almost as big as a pie.... yummy.
MPH or KPH?
One is legal, one I can not comment on.
