Interesting. How long before Mr Suzuki notices the ripped off rear guard?

If you do mean the bob tail - it's been on a Wide Glide since the late 90s

Dynas before that.

Hmm. That's a pleasant-lookin' motorcycle there.

First Softail that's caught my eye, really. Might have to wander by AMPS once they arrive...

wasnt the first iteration on the Low Rider? or is that the Boat tail? or is that something different, the Camel Toe or Moose Knuckle maybe? Harley nomenclature is SO confusing!!

Bars look painful.

I wonder if you could jam some clip-ons onto those funny girder forks...?

In that pic, the bike just looks worngA. The dimensions AND ergos are just crap.

IMHO.

don't mind that bike, personally, i like the old looking spring type of seats, just rear guard does not suit, but nothing a gas axe couldn't fixed i would think

If it had low bars it would look sehr kewl. I like the odd dimensions, very classic bobber (if that's the genre).

Low bars on it and you've got a warped American Enfield  Or with tyres like that, a warped Sunbeam.

And the bike that was first to use it...the mighty Z1 of course!

The bob tailed guard first came out around 1957.
Don't know what the nips were doing back then.
Probably still getting aid from America to rebuild their citys:clap:

the "classic bobber" in the range is the Nightster really, though it doesnt have the springer fork.

I am an instant expert since buying this (http://www.amazon.com/Art-Bobber-Spencer-Drate/dp/0760325316/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201067624&sr=8-1) book. Its bitchin though doesnt include anything from Hank Young surprisingly.

some way cool stuff though. I want one. Not necessarily to ride, just to have.

I reckon it looks great from all angles. Nice classic styling to it, like you're sorta semi-standing on that thing.

Wouldn't be able to go too far in that thing but it'd definately be a laugh to ride.

After stealing an entire concept, I don't think Mr Suzuki has grounds for complaint.

Nice bike!

Crap for 120kph plus. Really comfortable under it.

Crap for 120kph plus.

I kinda like the "unbutton jacket collar to avoid strangulation, grit teeth and grin stupidly" thing that happens over 120.

I'm dead keen to find out how I'd enjoy it over several hundred kilometres on the same day. Just need to find someone willing to loan me an appropriate bike.

Sniff.

*twitch*

I rather suspect that I could be tempted to spend money on one of these Harley things at some point.

Nice bike, Though I personally would roll back the bars to match the angle of the forks, and mount a proper seat.

Regarding longish rides, I rode my Sporty from Kawakawa to Wanganui, Wasn't any big issue.

Granted when I pulled up at the Fosters Tavern I couldn't hear or speak, I had lost all feeling from the waist down, and my legs were at funny angles.

Nothing a couple of beers didn't fix.

Way to go to adopt local camouflage and fit in with the locals!

Yep, the angle of the bars is all wrong imho, looks 'awkward' - but still a cool 'old-skool' bike, IF I was rich I'd have one.

Sigh. It's because you are complaining that it is wrong that makes it right.

BD you're starting to sound like Jeremy Clarkson. (That my be a good thing - I'm not sure).

Cruisers aren't my cup of tea, but that looks a well put together bike. Shame that the handlebars look so awkward.

Urrrgh...I quite liked it until that angle!!!
How about a set of cowhorn bars on it?

So what Harley would it be without the springer front end, A normal 'low' seat and milder bars?

Big Dave
24th January 2008, 09:36
Springer is a springer.

Genus: Softail

Dynas before that.

Came from the very first original bob or chop jobs - they removed the front guard and fitted it to the rear.

Not trying to indulge in thread necrophilia, but I do like the look of the Cross Bones. And there's now one sitting on the showroom floor at ANZA. Nice looking in the flesh imho.

just went into anza and had alittle look at the cross bones and even though i love my harleys the cross bones is one ugly bike. But then again im not really into the old school style. But i do like the paint job, nice and plain with abit of pinstriping

looks freakin uncomfortable to ride and the front is ugly as sin.

popelli
25th April 2008, 17:52
don't like it at all

seen it in the flesh and it looks even worse than the publicity photos

cheap plastic panneling under the seat covering up electrics and whatever looks like something off a cheap chinese honda copy

the original softail of 84 was a far better looking bike and the bad boy springer they had 10 years ago was a better looking bike

Well i love the look of the bike. Love the look of old school bikes with all the advantages of modern technology. The old WLAs from ww2 are a bit of a hand full to ride but saying that I would really like either a WLA or a cross bones in my garage.
