NEW YORK - Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28.

According to WNBC, Ledger was found with pills strewn all around him.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper, who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there, found him unconscious at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET, according to the New York Times. After receiving no response from the actor after shaking him, they called authorities.

I feel sorry for his little girl Matilda. :( The news reports doesnt say that it was suicide, maybe a stupid accident? Anyway, still pretty sad news.

WTF???

That is really sad...I quite liked him as an actor. He was quite awesome in Ned Kelly and I can't really recall a movie with him where I thought he wasn't pulling his weight as an actor.

Is suicide maybe an option at this point, or has it been confirmed as a drug overdose?

I actually think it's kinda sad about Heath. I'm hoping it wasn't an OD, sucks if it was. You have so much when you get to a place where he was at with a career like that, then it's all gone in a poof (no real pun). tis a sad shame, and I hope it wasn't self inflicted.

Do find something interesting tho, when Jack Nicholson played the Joker, he was as high as a kite, reportedly. To the point where I don't think that smile was always makeup. Jack, nearly topped himself by OD after finishing that Batman film, now Heath has just finished playing the same part but harder (looks awesome), and actually does die.. harsh

Just watched Broke back again the other night. Aside from the manlove its a fine bit of film work and a well told story.
The world of acting will be poorer for his passing.

Absolutely gutted as he was an awesome actor and had a smile that just melted my bitter n twisted heart. Just goes to show that just cos you appear to have everything you are not always happy.

Maybe next time before we bitch or are nasty to another we should think twice and say something supportive and kind instead!! You never know it just might help.

Sympathies are with his little girl, she must be devastated.

He was suffering from pneumonia, so he was sick in bed.

So I am picking that the night before, he took his medication.... went to sleep and maybe woke up in the middle of the night, still dopey from the drugs thinking he hadn't taken them, and then took some more....

He was expecting a person to do a massage that morning........ as his housekeeper let them in.... so I don't think he intended to kill himself.

I believe that it was an accidental overdose that claimed his life.

Quite disturbing how many just jump to the assumption that it was depression or suicide. Quite a bit more people than you'd think dies every year from ODing on over-the-counter drugs.
