Take convicted murderers, give them a holiday and teach them how to use weapons.

It was.
If it gives the kid a sense of self worth and values, can it be a bad thing?

Well, his victim wasn't killed with a taiaha but I don't think that kid needs any more training with something that is, in fact, a weapon. I haven't heard of any crimes commited with a taiaha specifically, but they are a weapon are they not? (ooohhh dreadful English just then - my apologies gijoe1313 ) Not to mention that the skills he learns on it would transfer ever so nice and easily over to any other stick like weapon he could weild. Cultural or not, his crime hardly fits with being suitable for this type of training.

you're right - He is a nice kid.

Weapon training (with a little stick or a gun) always comes down on how to hurt the other guy. Do you think a psychotic little shit like this needs this kind of education?

Are you seriously happy that your tax payers money is paying for this?

I can see your point and have to admit I am thinking twice about it but it's no different from putting them though boot camp, or teaching them martial arts...

Both would be lethally enabling them but I'm also willing to bet there's no way in hell they'd step out of line unless they were psychopathic.

My recollection is that the group he was with executed their victim with a softball bat. I would have thought that his training with clubs is complete. Perhaps he should move on to blades and then firearms.
