Howdy...

I drove this yesterday in the company wagon. Hamilton down thru tirau and tokoroa to kinleith and turn left to rotorua then thru rotorua to whakatane. Awsome road and in good nick. There are a few 80k stretches round the lakes from rotorua-whakatane but all good.

Meet at the BP in Cambridge at 9.45-10.15am and a 10.30 dept for lunch in Whakatane betwenn round 1pm? :apint:

All welcome!

As a Tokoroa local (and working mainly at Kinleith) I know these roads well. I do the Rotorua-Whakatane road once a week on business and those 80km/hr stretches really piss me off. If I'm on the bike, I prefer to use a different route which is fantastic. When you approach the T junction at SH5 just outside Rotorua, turn south towards Taupo. Travel south and turn east on the Murapara road. Just as you reach Murapara, turn left into Kopuriki Road and follow the signs to Galatea, Matahina and Te Teko. This brings you back onto the Rotorua-Whakatane highway. Magic scenery and nice and twisty after Murapara.

Cheers,

Geoff

Just a note for the future, it's a far better ride down Maungatautari Rd to Whakamaru, across the dam then a short ride to the Rotorua turn off you mention.

did hamilton-te kuiti-bennydale-turangi-taupo-mangakino yesterday

the taupo mangakino stretch is good fun at 140-200k

and where the road around lake taupo gets twisty its good too, but it gets cold too

awesome ride today rode with guys i did not know but all were accomplished sensible riders and easy to get on with. Enjoyed a bit of scratching and also enjoyed a bit of a slower pace later in the day, as i think we were all suffering from the heat. All was well untill warr and myself got a text that someone had run out of gas (you know who you are). so we sorted out the gas issue no worries. got home and had a few cold ones.

Thanks for organising the ride warr.

Keen to do it again:

cheers

Thanks for your help today guys - it's great to go out with people who don't just bugger off and leave you stranded when things go a bit pear shaped.

and over all it was a good ride, bike held up ok.

Did his name start with a 'J' perhaps

Funny thing - I came accross a dude on an ol Norton, broken down on the side of the road, stopped and gave him some moral support, helped a little and he got it runing again. I felt like I sort of repaid your kindness today - karma

My shoulders good, not a scratch or bruise anywhere
Shows that having all the right gear on helps

All Quasi gear – wreaked the armoured cloves, tore the knee up on the pants and a few rips on the jacket, took out some stitching.
