I just heard an add for www.bikemad.co.nz on the rock? i've had a quick look at the site and there are only a total of 39 members at the moment but they are trying to get people to pay to join? has anyone joined? what does my hard earned cash get me that Kiwibiker doesn't offer? other than adds on the radio that is?

i suspect they may get a reasonable membership from those who think the cost will "keep out the rabble" so to speak.....
fuck that, the world would be boring without the rabble imo

Who hoo. Subscriptions cost $25 per year
What does this give you?
Subscribing to www.bikemad.co.nz (http://www.bikemad.net.nz/) gives you access to forums, chat rooms and the ability to create your own custom user profile. Once you create your profile you will be able to add friends to your profile, create user groups and invite members to join and even set up events such as rides or meets to get together with other members.
Wow. If you register you can even set up rides with other members.
I am stunned into (almost) silence by the fact that he's managed to get 38 other people to sign up! I guess the old saysing 'theres a mug born every minute' is still true.
Site's run by a Paul Frazer from Greenhithe BTW.

I'm just working on starting up www.bike-forums.com at the moment. Which will be a more international site. Feel free to sign up, it's a little bare at the moment, but will not cost anything.
Any request on site content will end up being looked at by myself and my mate so get in there and take the opportunity to make the site that YOU want!

Good on them for being entrepreneurial. It's a democracy and if people want to join that's fine by me. Personally I don't see the point. Kiwibiker has everything they are offering and more. Plus, KB has the rabble as YOD suggests, and even though I have copped flak from the rabble and often they talk a load of bollox, I agree it wouldn't be the same without them. As for their comment that they are the "FASTEST GROWING MOTORCYCLE COMMUNITY IN NEW ZEALAND", I think that is funny and rather brazen even though it may be technically correct. Well now I know where to visit if I can't find anyone on KB who knows about motorcycles!

People don't realise, Just because you can make a website with a user friendly interface, everything neat and simple and well designed doesn't mean it will go anywhere. It's the people that make the content that other people want, If there's no people and no content, then there's nothing that anyone wants. You either have to be first, or the best, or already have a userbase.
This is exactly what happened with random new online auction sites after Trademe had been well and truely established.

Quasi... wasn't around when you started sports bike but believe there are many on this site that are members there as well as other forums, all have there place and maybe this new site as well...
I think he has a cheek making statements that it is fast growing etc... and then charging you for it... is a bit much to swallow when there are clearly other forums that do a excellent job, yours included...

Post a link to KIWIBIKER in the forum! And if they remove it, start a big shitfight about that you've paid for the service so you can do what you want!
Oh, and 15 new members yesterday for KB, 10 for them (even though a few of them are KB'ers!). They've still got a wee way to go before they're the "fastest growing".

Let's say this site's promoters are investing $5,000 on radio advertising. That's 200 memberships to cover their costs. One suspects that they are selling or have sold advertising deals to commercial entities too as part of their "business plan".
It's almost worth spending $25 to join and then promoting the shit out of Kiwi Biker. That would be a good test for their Moderators! Mwuahahahahaha!

To bad you got our address wrong.
I never seen a forum site where they expect you to pay to participate. It's very hard to get active members on a site when there is already an established one of the same subject, but to expect people to pay as well?? The owners must have rocks in their heads if they think they will get back the money they have spent setting it up and advertising it.
Now taking bets on when it gets shutdown. I'd be surprised to still see it running more than a year.

Looks like the masses have spoken. Just received the following email:
Thank you for your early support of the Bike Mad Community website.
Over the past seven days we have received feedback from members regarding the annual subscription fee.
We have always intended this site to be responsive, proactive and focused on building a dynamic online community of bike enthusiasts.
Therefore we have made a decision to remove the annual subscription, effectively making the entire website 100% Free. This is effective immediately.
I paid to be a member, what happens to my payment?
If you have paid a subscription already we will be refunding all membership payments via Paypal over the next few days.
Again we thank you for you support, and look forward to building an unstoppable online community for you to enjoy.
Regards,
