The first official race between the NEW Husaberg FE450 2009 prototype and the BMW 450cc took place this past weekend in Sweden.

With almost 6 minutes Joakim Ljunggren won the 1.5 hour race in front of 7times World Champion Anders Eriksson on his new BMW 450. Another Husaberg rider Charlie Söderblom was third behind Eriksson.

Note: The prototype uses the new Husaberg motor and chassis combined with KTM's bodywork and front end.

My brother told me about their new motor saying it didn't look right. Now I've seen it, I actually kinda like it.

Added to the list of dream bikes, top of the list in the motard section

Very very nice, but it's more of a streetbike than a motard. You'd never ride it on the dirt.

The one thing i hate about this is its plastic sub-frame(not from KTM) other than that very nice bike

Pictured bike doesnt feature a plastic sub frame (lots of plastic covers though) ,and the new 'plastic' compisite sub frame should be more ridged than a aluminum fram and more durable , but i wonder how much it will cost to replace if damadged????

i read in a magazine they have plastic subframes. i sure wouldn't want to buy a new sub frame for one it would be expensive.

I dont know shit about this bike but what is with the motor? Horizontal stroke - why for? Surely that just puts the COG of the whole crank/barrel/head higher though it would seem that an attempt to lower the COG of the bike has been made with an under seat tank?

Curious

Because they can??? :pinch: Somthing to do with ground clearance and compactness

Pretty sure it's to do with big single cylinder dirt bikes feel heavier because of the piston's weight moving down hard after combustion. The engine in that position should make it feel lighter I think. Plus most of the weight is moved backward so the centre of gravity should be more in between the wheels.

hmmmm at what cost i.e. higher COG

OK this sounds plausible on the grounds of feeling lighter but I though that most bikes were too heavy on the back and needed more weight on the front (hence why you fullers hang of the petrol cap when cornering off road).

Anyway, I'll just stick to riding my pig on adventure rides. Just hoping to learn something.

Yeah having the heaviest rotating mass in the centre of the bike will make the bike more balanced through corners and make weight transfer easier.

I would've thought it's not so much a lack of weight up front as they just want to have as much weight as possible up front during cornering for extra grip.

I'm probably just going to get an XR400 hack :p Mind you road legal examples are not a hell of a lot cheaper than the 600-650's.

Remember when you were young in your parents car, and it struggled up a hill when it was filled with the holidays camping gear and you would all rock back and forth to make the car faster... :woohoo:

The motor is like it is so it feels lighter and handles better. the fuel tank is in the subframe where the air box is on a normal bike and the air filter is where the tank used to be. IOt has an EFI engine. the air filter is where it is to make a lower more compact package.

And the answers to the advantage of turning the motor like this can be found here
first the kawasaki patent story...

and it's link to the Husaberg here

Enjoy the reading. It all makes sense to me. Then again I believe anything I read.....

I heard the story about centring the "reciprocating mass" (spinning weight) (crankshaft) sounds like thay know what they're doing, but who'd know? gotta ride it aye?

Actually as pretty as it is I don't think you can add it as a Motard. Be a bugger to buy one and then be told you cant race it in the Motards.
Check the MNZ rules - no off road version - then it ain't a Motard!

34-2-3 Machines:
Must be of an original OEM off road origin. If a Super Motard model is made then a purpose built off road bike must also be available from the manufacturer.
