Hey All!

I had arguably one of the greatest new experience today...suffice to say that i didn't stop grinning all day until I met the stupid cage driver. Today was the day I first had a go at motocross. :D. Rocked up to my mate motorb's place early this morning for my "motorcycle lessons" lol Spent a couple hours fiddling with the bike watching how to replace air filters and the such and getting some tips and then it was time to hit the track. First off, man motocross gear is different, the boots are way cool. One way grip, huge amounts of armour and ankle protection and the pants and shirt, lol I felt ready to tackle this.

I was given the "tamest" yamaha, the four stroke 250cc. Andrew gave me two pieces of advice, ride in the same direction as everyone else and give it all you got haha. One I had perched myself on top of the beast and fired her up I was all go. Those bikes sound awesome, two fiddy my ass, they sounded like six hundreds on steroids. So clutch out and throttle on and away i went...well instant stall actually. The gear were really tall, you ave to rev them hard to get going. So after giving her a mighty kick we were off. I followed andrew through the tracks, and straight away i was shitting myself, half grimace half maniacal grin. The orque...the torque...THE TORQUE haha. I swear i wasn't going over 30k but it felt fast and hitting the bumps, the rear was going all of the place. I was just holding on for dear life  :D.

Came up to the first corner, andrew blasted through it, i put my foot down, started going round gave her stick and woke up on the ground. Lesson one, they will spin on ya and can do wicked one eighties if needed , lesson two - try and get your legs of it or you do a painful splits :sweatdrop. After picking myself up and getting the bike going i was off. And for the next hour dropped, skidded and stalled to my hearts delight. Suffice to say riding a road bike was a hellof a lot different. I was going slow but having a great time. I now have 100% respect for off road riders.

After riding or an hour i pulled off the most fun thing i've ever done. My first wheelie. After stalling I got going and followed motorb, he said go for gold and he blasted off, i was following albeit went a bit off course, pinned the throttle open but accidentally dumped the clutch. Pulled an wheelie, sideways, up a bank, with the front at full lock and the engine screaming, after which i went airborn and landed three metres from my bike in the bushes :Punk:, i made a wil.e.coyote mark in the bushes. Awesome.

Now i love road riding and motocross, both are awesome. need another bike now, a motocross one lol.

Part two- Stupid cage on the motorway didn't check her blind spot and pulled straight into me, so now i am without transportation at all...:angry2:. She was unisured but that means she'lll have to pay out of pocket. I called the police and they sorted everything. Awaiting to tell the insurance people on tuesday. Sigh. Stupid cagers. Lucky i wasn't on my bike though .

Anyway ride Safe all

Give motocross a go if you haven't...fucking insane fun! lol

Having a stupid japanese lady blindly swerve into you cos she didn't check her bloody blind spot isn't a bin, i wasn't in the wrong and braked as hard as i could, it was that or head on with the concrete wall coming up. As for binning on the mx track, so what i was learning how to ride an mx bike, it was fun. If you tried to run me down in your cage id flying kick your head through the windscreen. lol

P.S This isn't a bin thread, i made some mistakes learning to ride, get over it.

Everyone should start in the dirt, teach em how to really ride a bike.

Evasive action, constantly.

Binning on a MX track (or any track, for that matter) doesn't count.

Lol it's not a bin if you're driving a car. It's a normal, straight-up crash. Which is what I call bins anyway, but a car-crash definitely is not a bin :innocent:

Good onya for trying off road.:niceone:

Haha i love off road it's pretty cool, i love on road too, both have their ups and downs. Nothing like getting a good line on road and cranking the bike over but also nothing like opening the throttle and holding on for dear life off road :D. As much as i would love to get an off road bike i think it's a bit of wishful thinking. A) can't afford it and B) would need a trailer a car capable of pulling it and also new gear etc. Plus maintenance of a off road and a two stroke would drive me mad haha. I definitely wanna get more off road practice under me, riding over those bumps was constant scary work. Me thinks a motard when i get my full would be good lol...or if i win the lottery a motard before i get my full *jokes*

I reckon i was going a bit too slow to keep the bike stable enough to get over big bumps hence lots of falling off lol

gutted bout the car man, but atleast she didn't write off the rg, and now you've gotten rid of that mobil fuel (told you it was bad for your engine lol)

I reckon i was going a bit too slow to keep the bike stable enough to get over big bumps hence lots of falling off lol

yeah i think that had a bit to do with it... but then again chris had the whole speed thing sussed, just had a bit of trouble keeping one or both wheels on the ground:laugh:

a bit more practice though and you'll be sweet - bailing like a pro with the rest of us:bleh:

riding dirtbikes for a few years before getting on the road has definitely helped me keep my roadbike upright, so i hope it'll do the same for Drider

Binning on a MX track (or any track, for that matter) doesn't count.

and it doesn't bugger fairings nor write off the bike either;

just climb out of the gorse bushes, drag the bike out of the ditch, kick her in the guts and go:headbang:

That's easy, get a second-hand XR250 or DRZ250 or summat. Not as much psycho power as that YZF (rode YZ250F about a year ago, feckin' hell does that motor need to go into a road bike frame), crappier suspension and heavier, but you get all the fun of riding offroad (just slower) and you can ride it on the road to Woodhill or wherever. Plus, dirt bikes are laughably fun on road. A friend with a trailie he rides to work everyday says his commute is now an obstacle course. Jump curbs, wheelie over speed bumps -- and if you crash it on-road, they're about as crash-proof as bikes get.

And at its core is a bullet-proof little 250 thumper -- no more feckin' about with spark plugs and paying ludicrous amounts for oil and fuel. Just change the oil every so often and leave it alone.

what u mean in not meant to get a good line crank the bike over open the throttle and hang on for dear life, (in no particular order) on the road?. You tell me this only now why exactly?

rephrase that lol

I smiled all the way through reading your post (until the cage arrived!) Thanks so much for sharing what was obviously a fantastic day out with us! It reminds us of what we all love about riding bikes, the joy of it all. Well done!

Hey my worst drop was actually coming to rest put my foot down, as you do and it went straight down a grass covered bore hole.So I got one leg in the bowels of the earth and the other at right angles across the top of the bike, unable to move with the hot exhaust scorchin its way into my leg.Only a 125 but totally impossible to move. I had to be helped out the hole, man how embarrassing.

So,yes be careful but doooo have fun mate.:niceone:

yeah the xr250 is a good bike and bloody reliable too, much lighter than the old ttr250. just i found once you really start thrashing them alot they begin to get problems...

so then i got the yzf400:D

now THAT is psycho power:first:
