The latest Bike has put these questions to its readers. I thought it would be interesting to see how NZ riders compared.

I haven't regretted any of my bikes, however the Bandit has really grown on me. Also gives me a good feeling when the pillion screams with delight when I twist the throttle.

Abso-bloody-lutely perfect mate :headbang:

My three Hondas rock. My roadbike (Yamaha) is the bain of my life. The sooner I can rid of it the better. I shoulda bought a NZ new bike second hand instead this Jap import POS!!!!!!!!! I think a GSX250R may have been a better option as I didn't like the feel of the Kwaka 250. Bought the Yammie for 3300 and since spent 2100 on it. Damn I coulda just about bought a brand new bike for THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I hadda ridden a GSX. The vt250 is the most heinous thing I have ever seen. Just what I think.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrr

And I have yet to find a Yamaha dealership I like to deal with............ Suz/Kwaka, and Honda delaerships generally just seem to be way more friendly, but I do shop around.

My old Gixx suits me perfectly,it's insane and I am too
The old turbo's just a rush every time I get on it.
There may well be better things out there, but I'm in no rush to find out....

The Gixxer 750 is cool. :innocent: As long as you use the gearbox and the full rev range it will stay in touch with the litre bikes. As we live on the Wairoa road it is heaven for this bike. Top class brakes. Needed here to get you around the bloody goats that live on the road   :(

Well the bike shops aren't going to make much money out of us trying to sell us a new bike looking at the results so far (so they better try making it by servicing our bikes better hey:msn-wink: ).

My bike may be ageing, fat and kind of ugly (bit like its owner really), but now I've got it sorted I'm rapt with it again.

At the moment it does everything I need from it.

Maybe one day that will change. but right now, its good enough for me.

Only one choice - but all of my bikes are perfect for the way I ride them, and yet I've still got a lot of exploring to do with each one,I certainly haven't found out all I need to know about them.

I actually fall between the first two options. My CBR6 is perfect for me, but after 6 years, it's time for a new one & the Daytona really rocks my boat, so I voted for the "time for a new one" option.

Am I jumping the gun here? Really need to get off the Yamaha. A Honda is very appealing..........

Swapped it for my car i bought (hey i broke my leg and got a fright) :bash:
But now i got it i kinda like it - its not like any 400 ive ever ridden...it actually goes really fast, and sound beuti wif dat Laser can.
But now the old man wants it as a race bike - but if he want its he'll have to swap his 955i for it or no deal :stupid:

16th November 2004, 01:20
I liked my bike until I made the mistake of sitting on two bikes that I can't afford to buy at the weekend, then I realised how horrid the peg - seat dimentions are on my bike, courtesy of an extremely low seat.

I've explored all possible options , such as ridding sitting on the tank, feet on the pillion pegs, sitting on the pillion seat, dragging feet on the ground and it' still a little uncomfortable over long distances.

Anybody want to swap a set of Metzler tyres of your choice for a 600?

Im happy with my CBR250, its fast when I need it to be, its reliable and its teaching me to ride all over again. Couldnt be happier I dont think, thats until I get a R1 in a couple of years :niceone: :spudwave: :not:

Yes, it's perfect for the way I ride.

Nope, the pegs scrape, the springs in the forks are too soft (they bottom out when going over bumps, eg. driveway entrances, and the brakes could be better. But since it's the first bike I've ever owned and I've learned to ride on it, my riding style has probably developed to suit the bike. I know that if I hop on a zzr250 or cbr250r that it would take me a couple of weeks to get at least slightly comfortable with the different style.

It's OK, but it's time for a change.

I could almost say yes to this, but I can't afford to change bikes now, and I haven't got my full license yet either, so even if I could change, I'd be limited to another 250. Actually, the thought has been going through my head of maybe getting an fxr150 since I mostly just commute, and it's bound to be cheaper to maintain than the zeal.

No. I'll replace it when the new models appear.
I've got a bike to suit every mood.

Hahaha, I wish.

My bike isn't perfect, but it's still fun to ride. I like it.

I'm a monogamist - the bike just suits me. Reliable with enough power to enter the fright zone and enough braking to exit it still breathing. I would swap it tomorrow for the slightly later model with fuel injection but keep those VFR800's away from me - too complex, too tubby and too expensive.

16th November 2004, 07:27
I've got a bike to suit every mood: commuting, hooning (probably the same thing), touring, cruising...

No, my bike's not perfect, but it's pretty damned good. And it's complex, tubby and expensive, which is why it handles better and goes faster than my VFR750 used to (it wasn't called FartySlutBeast for nothing...)
Miss the FahrtSturm's WheeliesOnDemand though.:disapint: And the gobs of torque.
But the turbine smoothness and comfort of the VFR is very nice, as is the absence of friggin camchain rattles! :)

After long and careful deliberation I've come to the conclusion that I need 3 bikes:

1 for commuting: something smallish, reliable, economical, but also fun to ride, to bring a bit of joy into an otherwise dreary working day. Something like a Honda 400.

1 for touring: comfortable seat and riding position, packrack for luggage, heaps of torque. The XJR1200 fits the bill.

1 for the track (and the odd bit of Coromandel loop hooning): an R1 would do nicely, though I'd probably settle for an R6 if someone gave me one.

I'm two thirds of the way there...

Yip, the Bandit suits me for now - good low end that doesn't mean changing gears for every change in speed. Comfortable seat too.

[QUOTE=MikeL]After long and careful deliberation I've come to the conclusion that I need 3 bikes:

I have 3 bikes but feel I need 5 or 6
The SRX is great for commuting but its gonna get the flick when it hits 100000k in 13000k time
The XJR is great for touring and scratching but the seats a bit soft
The WR is great for anything on the dirt but the seats too hard.
Guess I'm gonna have to change my ass.
I'd like a trials bike for doodling
And a cruiser to see the world from a Harley wannabe's perspective :Punk:
Oh yeah quite like an R1 for track days

I like it but it needs a clean

I like it but I need to fix the seat and give it a clean

I like it but it's not running that well just at the moment... and it needs a clean

"Will it make the bike go faster?" :msn-wink:

I like the look of my bike mostly, and it is very comfortable to ride but it is underpowered and the bars don't feel too nice, but anything else would make it look sad, I really like the look of the honda nighthawk that was on trademe last week, but it's beyond the price I can justify paying for a bike, still dreams are free, I'll hang onto my bike for a year or so till I wear the tyres out and then look for something bigger, faster and that handles better.

im pretty happy with my beastie. it is about as fast as you need or can go before you get into hot water. handles sweet, goes quick and sounds mint (will sound better when i get my full pipe fitted in 2 weeks!). it just needs a bit more braking power and it would be mint.
only thing it is showing its age now and with there being so many bikes with another 20 or 30 HP and 10 or 15 KG lighter it makes it look a bit sad.

oh well, could always turbo it....
