Hi There!
I am located in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and I am, or rather I was driving a 1996 Yamaha DT230 Lanza (Chas. no. 005414). I am probably the 3rd person to own a Lanza here so stating that it is a bit of a hassle to get spare parts here must be the understatement of the year.

Unfortunately my CDI unit committed suicide last week leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere last week (and trust me, in Tanzania the middle of nowhere is really the middle of nowhere!). I am now on a quest to find a spare (new, used, refurbished – I don’t care). According to Fowlers UK the Yamaha catalogue number is 4TP8554000 but they can't seem to order it because the bike was never officially on the UK market. Can anyone help or do you know anyone who can??

Also, can you guide me on what might have caused it to melt? I wouldn't want to next one to burn as well. Having said that - a wiring diagram would also be a huge help to me!

Thanks for your help!

I just got a whole heap of stuff for my DT230 no problems.....well,it took about 3 months, but that was a lot of my fault. Some of the stuff had to come out of Australia,so I would try there as that is where we get some of the slower moving parts.

Bit scary the CDI going out,I hope it isn't a problem with them....but haven't heard of any others doing it.The CDI for the DT230 is a bit special as it has the ign map for the traction control. There is a workshop manual online,I got mine from one of the members here, perhaps he'll send it to you.
