Any particular reason why we're using ancient carbs on the FXR150? XL250, GN250?

Looking at that photo with the XL250 carb, that looks like the 79-83 carb, which is very familiar to me (same one on my bike), with the accelerator pumper. Round slide, pumper == gooood. But GN250 flabby CV carb? What's the theory behind that? Does it ever get near to maximum vacuum?

I had an '89 RS125 once, and yes, they come with wire-wheels. Looked very similar to that chassis there.

F5 Dave
14th February 2008, 10:26
That should be mighty fine Pumba. Once you've moved the seat forward. Even as a stout chap you should have your weight in the middle of the bike. Having it over the rear wheel will lead to comedy events. On a bike with clipons or low bars Pegs should be directly below the seat or rather the middle of where you sit. If it's too cramped then the pegs need to be lower or seat higher.

Nudez has it it's an 89, although I did re-lace some 17 rims on it.

The bike was std blue when I got it, not std red.

Ivan. Upgrade to Firefox instead of IE it's free on the Mozilla website & is pretty much the same to use, but has spellchecker. It will solve a lot of these issues. Heck maybe IE has it these days but I don't care, Firefox is safer.

Yep you're right. The 89 rs came out with 18" wire spoked rims. The following year they bought out the 17" alloys. So dangermouse, you do the math :bash:

As dave has already said, he has had 17" rims laced onto there. Are they 2.5" and 3.5" dave? Would help being to run old rs tyres. Nice bike btw.

It's been a busy day on the TZR145.
I've got the motor in, the TZR tank leaks, so the GL tank was pressed into service for testing. Still needs an exhaust, I'm thinking a CR125 muffler on it's side under the motor (mass centralistation and all that). Motor runs, bit boggy. I'll worry about tuning it after the exhaust is done.
Tailpiece needs a bracket made. I'll need to put a liner on the TZR tank.

Once that's done there is the 101 small bits to make it more bucket like:

numbers, slicks, nylon, cut off unused brackets etc etc.

Sorry dude, using a 2 stroke pipe won't make it any less diesel like:Pokey:.

By my calculations, 2 stroke pipe, 2 stroke frame and 4 stroke motor works out to closer to three strokes.

Cycleworks are going to make me a new header for the exhaust and I'll need a POR15 kit or something like it for the tank.

The front brake calipers are leaking from between the halves, I'm guessing new a o-ring should sort that out.

Where can I buy new bleed nipples from?

F5 Dave
26th February 2008, 11:45
Bike shop. I have bought odd ball ones from BNT before for my Hebo callipers, not sure if they will carry small enough ones for bikes. o-ring between halves is usually a specific square section seal.

Well the GL propensity for dropping valves got me at the buckets today.
The GL had a big stumble off idle, but one that cleared up by the time the revs rose to where the power is at.

Still 2 x 10min practice and one 10 lap race and the clackity-clackity broken valve of doom noise begins...

Until then, I liked it. Mounting the tailpiece on 100mm risers gives me much more leg room. Brakes and suspension that work, I'm liking that.

Just need to buy a Loncin 150cc...

The valves are ok.

The nasty noise was the cam sprocket trying to jump off the cam after the bolts unscrewed themselves...

The cam timing remained intact because the cover between the points a nd the sprocket toook a bashing. The bolt holes are flogged out so I'll need to tap the bolt holes to a larger size before I can reuse the old cam.
I've put another not-so-nice cam in for the time being.

Not neccesarily, compare a 180 degree Jota to a 120 degree Jota, both are triples and there's a big difference in vibration between them

Most triples seem to run 120 degree cranks as that's the arrangement which gives the least vibration

Does anyone want 3.5 gl145 motors?
you'll need lots of pistons and valves...

I've ordered a Loncin

I could be interested if the price is right:niceone:

Flick me a PM if you're still looking to get rid of them.

Those Loncins are grunty? Enough muscle to shift a CB250RS rolling chassis around? Looks like it'd slot in quite nicely.

12kW supposedly. The Loncin distributer has 200cc and 250cc versions.
The 150cc is pretty much identical to the GL145 motor, but with some better design ideas e.g. cdi.

$425 on Tardme is the price I saw.

Yes, very tempting. I have this spare CB250RS with no motor, and a million spare parts.

It would be bucket legal with the 150 in it.....

A this rate there may be a LONCIN class....

Apart from an electric leg, what is the difference for the atv version I wonder?
No fancy gold lettering on the side...

ATV engines are generally designed for better torque in the lower revs relative to a cycle motor.

Star tripping across the universe, only going forward cause we can't find reverse!

Having a lookie at that photo it looks like a push rod motor to me.

Not the best for what we do to the poor little things.

The optional 30mm carb for the 150 loncin on newmanz is bigger than the carb on my beach buggy! (1600cc)

That Newmanz link is the motor I bought, except for the black paint. The optional 30mm carb is a direct copy of the GL145 keihin pumper
