Fuck it's hot today. So hot that I splashed out on some Mac's Summer Ale. Apart from the fact that it has a ghey name - Sun Dance, it's actually really nice. I only got it cause it was on special and they had run outta Summer Ale. I still dont reckon it's better than monteiths summer ale but it's different. Not as sweet, more citrusy, but not, kinda....
Anyone else tried it? Liked it or not?.... It's good for a night like tonight!!

All beer is bloodey horrible.
Everybody always says oh no try this one it's not like any other beer...
Well yes i can taste a difference...but it's the main base taste of beer i do not find it enjoyable whatsoever. I can tell it has alot of flavour it's not like it tastes like water. I guess i would describe it as bitter?
Pass.
Yet i see everybody guzzling this stuff down. A lot of people offer to buy me a beer....hand me a beer at a party andi have to turn it down.
I will enjoy a mixer drink of Jagermeister and Demon energy or lift or red bull.
Vodka i love.
I know it's not normal to not like beer. I have been told it's an aquired taste.
How do i aquire this, new flatmate works for lion nathan brewery.... this means cheap beer. I want to take advantage of this possibly.
I can't stand beer, would be nice to fit in at partys. Mind you i never fit in anywhere, so who am i kidding LOL

Simple! If you don't like the taste, don't drink it.
Don't even attempt to acquire a taste for it.
It doesn't matter what you like/don't like to drink.
Plenty of other ways of "fitting in".

Get a bottle of Schwepes Raspberry cordial, open a beer... (goes well with 'Ice') take a wee skull, put some cordial in... it sweetens it up and actually tastes really good...
I used to have them all the time back in the day, now when I see the cordial, I'll get it... & occasionally have one.

I tried Guinness a while back. It was weird. Very watery and bitter. Didn't like it. though supposedly here we get the shit from the Dublin brewery and the other stuff, wherever it comes from, is meant to be better.
Beer is alright. Export brings back good memories so I often go for it. Everyone tells me it's cheap crap, but stuff 'em, I like it. Jim Beam straight is good too.

Nope - a snake bike has larger and cider mixed (with a dash of raspberry) - they are not that common as most pubs wont serve them - they do have a tendency to send you off your face very quickly

Guinness not mass produced ?? [give that man a Tui] - its one of the most produced beers in the world. About 40% of it is brewed in Africa, and headquartered in London, its as Irish as Britney Spears.

Ah, yes, but if you ask nicely and can get all the way through your request without falling over, most pubs will serve you a pint of lager, a bottle of cider and an empty glass.

I tried - I failed dismally... it's just not me.
Sounds like beer's the same for you. Don't sweat it - save your money and drink what you do like. If it's water, orange juice or spirits... it doesn't matter. Being true to you counts for a lot more than following what the masses are doing.
Takes more guts, and it's a lot more comfortable to do.
As for me - I like Lion Red (bring on the insults - I don't care). I think it's good stuff and the fact it's cheap is nothing but a bonus. People can take the piss out of me all they want... I don't care. I know what I like and I'm true to myself.
I can't stand most spirits unless they're mixed with something and my all time favourite drinks are what the Yanks call "fru fru drinks" (typically drunk by gay guys or girls). Butterscotch schnappes and baileys (Slippery nipple aka Cock sucking cowboy).
No biggy - and as I say... I just don't care. I know what I like... so I do what I like. Easy enough.

"Would you like a can of Harden The Fuck Up with your beer sir?"
Seriously though, drinking the revolting sewage that some kiwis pass off as beer is probably not a good idea if you want to learn to like the stuff (and have tastebuds...).
But yeah, beer is something you have to learn to like. I didn't start liking beers until I was around 20 I guess. I still drank them - FAST - just to get the effect.
Later I started to enjoy them and later I began appreciating a lot of very different beers...
If you want effect I can warmly recommend the snake bite as mentioned earlier here... Albeit what was proposed was preposterous!
Snake bite with BITE (the good stuff):
Part 1: Recipe
1 part Ngarhere Gold from Harrisons (7.2% Alc./vol.)
1 part Scrumpy (e.g. from Harrisons) (~8% Alc./vol.)
A splash of black currant cordial - just enough to give it a reddish tint.
Part 2: Drink
Part 3: Get in trouble
Part 4: Pass out
Part 5: Try to remember
If you want to get seriously drunk and have a lot of booze around here are something that'll make you forget everything about beer:
The good: B52
60 ml shot glass
1. 20 ml Kahlua
2. 20 ml Baileys
3. 20 ml Grand Mariner/Cointreau
Poor in layers and light the Grand Mariner/Cointreau at the top if you like burn wounds...
The bad: Sneaky Fucking Russian
Normal glass
60 ml Vodka
30-60 ml Kahlua
Add Baileys as if it was milk for a white russian
Have fun, it's sneaky!
The ugly: Nighttrain
Pint glass
40-60 ml Vodka
40-60 ml Tequila
40-60 ml White rum
40-60 ml Gin
40-60 ml Grandmariner/Cointreau
250 ml can of Redbull/V/any energy drink you like...
This one's pretty potent - I doubt you'll get a bar to serve it to you.
Have fun :D

I've always liked beer, grew up in England next door to a pub :bleh: They gave me beer at 8 years old! That place was a laugh.
Unfortunately the kiwi piss is absolutely foul. Tui, Lion Red, Double Brown. The rotten shite like that is a sin against beer-kind. For some reason I really like Export Gold though that's the cheap stuff too.
Usually go for Monteiths (Summer Ale is good for those who prefer sweet beer) or Macs Gold.

That's because Joseph Coutze (spelt?) previously set up DB in Taihape, invented the continuous batching system, but look at the price compared to a well brewed beer, and it all ends up in the same place in the end.

Serious question...
Of course it's normal. Your body knows what's good or bad for it. Listen to it. If beer, or alcohol generally, doesn't work for you, don't drink it. Plenty of other fluids available. Pure cold water's as good as any.
Personally, I reckon if it's not Speight's it's not beer. And normally I'm partial to a drop in moderation. But, a few times a year, my body decides to light a blue light. Just doesn't want alcohol at all. So, I don't drink it. Tomato juice, ginger beer, orange juice, or good cold water. Never had any problem buying them in a pub (we are enlightened nowdays); never had anyone give me grief over it. Two or three weeks of that, suddenly that cold Speights looks very nice.
You don't need to drink to fit in, or to prove anything. It's your body, your life, no one elses business at all.

I never used to like the drink either, then a mortgage, 2 kids etc cut down the piss money and I acquired a taste for beer - fits my budget better as well:clap:
I do find I often go off my 'favourite' beer - a change to a light or dark etc easily fixes this.
Try a cider for a change - very refreshing.

I finally walked to the supermarket and got some.
Nice! I wouldn't rave about it too much, but it's very clean, very fresh, with a slight zing from the additions. Lemony something.
There's obviously a bit of wheat in the mash, very good.
I am pleased it's a real beer, not a sweet and spicy and strange one like the Monteith's Summer. Although I do like that one, the monteith's is more of a novelty beer. This Mac's is real beer, but beer for summer.
Now, if only I lived up north, not in Dunedin, I'd have much more opportunity to enjoy it!

Love it.
I went to a barbecue last night, took Sapporo made in Canada. Had some Japan brewed cans once, same shape but the whole lid came out so it was almost like drinking out of a glass.
And the beers not bad either:apint:
Beer is supposed to be bitter, that's the hops. The hops are in there as a sterilising agent. One book I read said that in the old days the beer was much more bitter than today's brews. The author thought we wouldn't be able to drink the old stuff.
The old sailing ship wreck "Tudor Rose" had bottles of beer on it and some chemists were quite keen to play with the contents. I haven't seen any news as to how they got on.

I'm my mind Sapporo is the best beer in the world.
I wanted to hug the Sapporo machine in our Ryokan. But then the Japanese would have to kill me (very formal bunch).
So i bowed to it instead.

Sapporo is really good. But then again all the nipponese beers I've tasted have been really good. Asahi, Kirin Ichiban, etc.
But then the Japanese would have to kill me (very formal bunch).
Nah, they would be more likely to grudgingly expect you to cut your stomach open and bleed to death for such a breach of ettiquette. The nipponese generally don't kill people as a punishment - they expect the perp to realise that he should take care of that part himself...

Fine ales indeed :)

Tell that to Nanking!
Nah i found that Sapporo was the best for me. Feels good, tastes good. Asahi tasted too much like it was brewed with sawdust for my liking. Kirin is so Lion Red. The Kirin top shelf stuff was ok - sort of like a cross between kilkenny and Mac Black.
Anyone else had the mighty "Drain Layers Larger" from Humes?

They have recently assumed that status for me (as far as Kiwi brewers are concerned), their Brewjolais is the stuff for me.

Here's a drop for Xmas, a coule of these should see you merry.

Was a time that i home brewed beer and got a lager recipe wrong and put in too much sugar. First bottle was great, but had trouble getting to the fridge for a second, reckon it was up there with santaclause bier.
Someone mentioned Joseph Kutze. My band won a crate of it in a battle of band Kutze promotion in the 80's. We gave it away, it was bluddy aweful.
Another i remember a brew called Southland Bitter. It was specially brewed for the "tastes of Southlanders". It was drain cleaner horrible and nobody bought it, they went bung.
Another was bavarian bitter. We bought 20 dozen of it for a party because it was cheap, took some time to get rid of it.
For many years i drank Lion red because no one in my flat liked it, so they never drank my beer on me. Heh , heh.
I like lagers like Export Gold, Orangeboon, Stella, Amstel.
Draughts Victoria bitter, speights, and stouts Kilkenny and guinness.
Most kiwi beers are not popular with overseas because they are as weak as piss.

Serious question...
Wierd as it sounds, I started off liking beer after I saw a simpsons episode where Selma had a beer smootie at a theme park.
So I tried it.....a glass of lion red, a couple of dollops of holey pokey icecream...
And the rest is history
A very drunken, belly expanding history!!

Adding ice-cream is probably the only way you would get ANY taste out of Lion Red
So do you still drink it that way?
Come, grab a Mac's Black, and take a walk on the Dark Side...
