Bike that doesn't put out. (RANT)

Well this is it i am bloody pissed off. I am a student, an engineering student in fact and so am broke almost constantly. And due to this brokeness i have not been able to afford the kind of bikes i want. I am sick and tires of owning bikes that just do not allow me to push myself. I owned a vt250 who's engine i had to replace, a zxr250 which i started on slow but ended up going past the front edge of the tyre trying to weezlel some more corner speed at high revs so that was ok but the number of time i had to change gears was irritating. And now the 400. Bought her spent $1000 on her to get her running all smoothly and so i couldn't afford decent tyres. And thus the other day i found out how to recover and not bin when the front tyre starts sliding out. The bike is a constant pain in the ass and i have no money to buy something more reliable. Do any of you have the same problem. Bikes just buggering up when you try and push them. I am sure there is a decent good bike that i can ride hard and get to my limit before i get to the bikes but as of yet i havn't found one. And what has this done to me. WELL you can ask CK and he'll definatly ratify that i am becoming a nana. And it just irritates me that i don't feel comfortable pushing myself because i don't know if the bike will f$#k up on me. Hard luck mate, that sucks. But, I reckon you'll find, after finishing your degree, you'll get a job which will be more than sufficient to allow you to get whatever bike you want, within reason ofcourse.

My bikes are so imperfect it's a joke. Front end damping on the Guzzi? Ha Ha! I virtually change lanes going up the hill on some bends. I can fix it for $400 but I aint got it because I just spent $711 on Triumph bits (it has not run for 6 years now). I earn good dosh and I could have a flasher bike I suppose but I like making my old ones slowly better myself. Point is, I have a ball riding the nuts off it at the ragged edge!

Cut your cloth to suit your means my friend. Learn patience and you will be a better rider for it when you can afford a better bike!

I know how you feel. I've tried to push my fzr, but it just doesn't want to go there :angry2: I accelerate hard and get into 3rd or 4th gear (can't remember) and it starts to jump like someone pulled the clutch in and let it go suddenely. Money seems to be the source of both our problems, not to mention our poor choices in bikes :doh: .

No not necessarily a brand new one but one that i know i will screw up before the bike does. It's just i am sick of having problems with bikes and they aren't even big problems but it's just one after the other, and never having the money to fix them. I am just frustrated read my other post "frikken annoying" and you'll understand :crybaby: :crybaby:

Do you enjoy engineering???? if so, you're doing better than a lot of us... i have a qualification thats next to useless, a job i hate sooooo much (at a company that might not be the most stable at the moment) and not much of a brighter future employment-wise...
If you're doing something you like, everything else is a bonus.... and a matter of time

i have to work in industry for the next 6 months as part of the programme. So i was gonna spent the money i will be earning on like a race bike or something for the track but methinks it'll all be going into a nice little pile so i can afford something that will come with a warrenty hahahahahah.

No this zxr i have runs great but i just don't have the $500 for rubber i won't get to the edge of :headbang: i am in the process of trying to sell it anyway cause i have made myself to broke fixing this one up. Hahahahaha i realise this but hell what's a guy to do. It's a silly little problem that i have fixed by diconnecting ,cleaning and reclipping the clips. Alls well that ends well. The point of this thread is not that the bike is broken is that it was some minor little thing that went wrong and pissed me off. Imagine if it had happened going into my exam tomorrow i would have been totally screwed :brick:

Well,in a way I can relate to your problem,and I also think WTF???!!! When I came to the conclusion that the XS1 was just plain dangerous to ride anymore I went looking for bike I could ride how I wanted - I wanted to get right on top of a bike and push it hard,force it to my will,and to know exactly where it stood and what it could take....so I went out and bought a 15 year old bike (now 19) and have been happy ever since.I can jump on it and ride 1000km without more than checking the oil,it's reliable and fun to ride.I guess you would find it gutless with atrocious handling and totaly unreliable and not be able to get parts.Like Paul,I find the quirks in a bike possibly the most interesting thing about riding them,they are not faults....it's called character,and they are character building for yourself - fit into the bike,become part of it,and it will work for you...fight it....and you've got problems you'll never solve.

I agree with Motu and Paul on this one.

No matter what bike you get, its not going to be perfect. Hell, my fizzer has its moments where it does my head in - if you've read any of my bitches about my steering you'll know where I'm coming from.

But my point is, I've stuck with the bike. I know I'm in a different place to you - I'm 37, I have 3 kids (two at school, one there in 8 months) and one on the way - but I still know about financial stress. It was bloody hard to fix my bike when I binned it back in June and we had to scrimp and save and find money from somewhere in order to do it - but we managed somehow.

I'd love to have a new bike. But you know, at least I have a bike. You call them imperfections - I call them character.

If you can work around the imperfections your bike has, you will become a better rider.

There's plenty of deals on trademe on good used tyres. Bite the bullet - buy some cheap ones - learn how to put them on yourself even.

Good luck with whatever bike you get. Remember the 97 gixxers have issues too... :whistle:

You are just stressed by your exams!

Focus on the exams.

The bike (and us) will wait patiently for you to get back to it!

As Celtic said, most problems really do your nut in some days but it's a test! Pass the test and you will soar with the eagles. Chicken out and you will ride with the wanna bes!

Hahahahah cheers guys it's not been a good day. And i after spending all that money getting her in the condition she is now i just got really really pissed when something so little went wrong. I know i can't have the perfect bike hell is there such a thing (well if you buying used anyway) but it seems like everytime i fix one thing something else goes wrong. And i was sure that i had managed to get everything that was wrong sorted. I've a poke about and she seems to be working now (probably just a loose connector) but yeh.
Motu is right it doesn't matter the age i just want something that will perform when asked and not do dodgy stuff that endagers my life (i do enough of that without the bikes help) . Oh well back to the study after tomorrow i can concentrate on gettting that job for work experience so i have some cash :2thumbsup

My bike may be old,but I'm just reaping the benefits of Recycled's impressive maintenance before I got the bike,and the Honda build quality (gosh,um,I've had some regulator/alt trouble) My qualification is Automotive Engineer,but all it means is I'm a lowly motor mechanic,to me problems are something to sort out and over come,some lead me to despare,but I just keep coming back until I sort it out,it's all experiance....and in my job experiance is worth more than 3 columns of letters after your name.No money? That's the whole point,that's why I started riding bikes in the first place,it's all done on the cheap,I find stuff,modify it to my purposes - check out the XLV by clicking my avatar,I even made my own mufflers...a learning experiance,and cheap to boot,so what if they took over 8 hrs each to build - riding bikes is more than riding bikes to me,it's life...

Ditto you should have seen all the "mods" i made to the vt250 hahahahhaah. It was suggested by one of my mates that i should get a car (not to mention a lisence) i told them ummm..............NO!!!. i can't go long without riding and the thought of her having to sit alone in the workshop waiting to be repaired brings me to tears, that is why i hate things going wrong. :brick:
