Hmm, I wonder how much persuasion it'd take to get Stickchick trading her EL250 in on one of those...
Of course, it might end up getting 'borrowed' occasionally if she did.

Yeah but what they don't mention is the ton of tuning stuff available for that Honda based motor.
Love the pics of the dude on the BMX track. Makes me want one more actually:D

A workmate has one and it works fine on Urban streets. It tops out at about 80 km/hr and isn't fun to ride at that speed thanks to excessive vibration. Other than that the only problem he has had is wiring loom issues thanks to the loom being unclad. Wires worn through, water in connectors.

Glad your an optimist but they sound like decent issues for 3k.
How much are those suzuki magics? courier drivers seem to have a ton of fun on those.
I suppose there's not much else around for the $ like that though,
do little derbi motards like this get this far downunder?

Thing is with Magics is they're still only a 50cc full auto. ANd ya can't get em new, they still go for close to three K 8 years old.
I have it on VERY good authority (Lance Lowe) that they're the best bike ever built. He'd know, he's wrecked a bike or two :D

They did indeed. The issue has been resolved. Normal shit Chinese quality procedures. Ship a 1000 good bikes and then revert to making the swing arm from recycled Matchbox toys. It's not about quality it's about making a profit. NZ means nothing to China. If a Chinese person asks you how many people live in NZ say "0". That's statistically closer to the truth when compared to the 1,385,000,000 people living in China.
The initial batch of 50cc bikes had few issues, but they were of course made in Germany.

wasn't trying for sarcasm.
I realize such things, wasn't really pointing out the price (2k in uk pound new btw so twice the price) just asking if such a minimotard could be bought down here.
white trash seems to have more taste for the thrashing/fun side than the commuting.

Only things I hate about mine is the excessive vibration at higher revs and uncomfortable seat.
Mine has a few mods BTW - eg no emissions control, bigger carby, Pod instead of airbox, higher bars (which improved handling out-a-sight). Bar end mirrors (which work great).
They have great brakes and handle very well.

When I was looking at getting a scooter I read about these and liked the idea of the bigger wheels.
Then I thought I'd seen one in a shop that specialises in scooters but the owner said it wasn't a Sachs, it was a Chinese copy. It did look a bit rough so I passed on that idea.

The Madass is one step up from a Monkey bike. It’s small, cramped and silly. Its suspension has less springing than a Bic biro and all the damping qualities of an overcooked pancake. Comfortable it isn’t. What it is, however, is a fun toy.

i have one.
actually - it now officially belongs to my girlfriend - "madass" here on KB.
i've owned a street magic , and a vanvan, and it's BRILLIANT.
chassis is strong, tyres and brakes are excellent, it rides like a bike - not a crappy chinese scooter made of silver painted cheese.
the frame is BIG too - seat is quite high and all fits a grownup.
the engine is a clone xr/crf50 - mine is the manual 125.
the crap ones were clones - not the real sachs ones.
there's a guy in panmure who has entire badass motors for them with carb etc for like $600.
that's our plan once rach (madass) learns to ride.
go see kerry at motohaus and test ride one - you'll be surprised.
any queries - PM me.

there seems to be a lot of confusion between the genuine sachs madass and the multiple clones. i have had zero problems with mine - and the componentry is sound.
i've heard a bunch of horror stories including broken swingarms, but all these bad units were non-sachs bikes after talking to owners.

Didn't the official NZ distributor for Sachs write an open letter on this subject?
If I recall correctly, the quality from the new manufacturer was so appalling that the official distributor actually gave up on the product.

Not so much a cheaply made Chinese ripoff as a cheaply made Chinese MadAss.
They make the MadAss now under licence from Sachs.

We'll, I've test ridden one courtesy of Motorcycle Imports down Tuam st, just around the corner from me.
Pictures do not do the bike justice! The engineering in the bike is fantastically thought out and if anything, i enjoyed looking at it, more than riding it :)
To ride, i thought it was absolutely brilliant! Accelerate normally and you really do feel the torque and suprisingly is wasn't that slow. Albeit a far cry from my Zxr250 of old :)
Open up the throttle till just over half way and the sound is niice, for a single banger!. You can easily hear a deep burble that seems to come from the first 2 inch of exhaust pipe & echo's in your helmut :).
The chassis/frame is communicative too. I could feel the slight flex of the sidewall when i chucked it right......... then left without braking for a corner at all :shifty:  lol
A few critizims tho. The seat is to wide at the front and caused some discomfort in my inner thighs, The choke needs a spring on the end of the lever or something. A choke should have some feel to it . It felt as daft and as disconnected as love making is virtually -_-. And my biggest crit of all this is the branding.
I'd never heard of Sach's before coming across this bike on Tardeme. This does not fill me with confidence when it comes to finding parts \ support etc!~
I am getting one. :soon:. Just gotta wait for the delivery for a matt black 125 ;)

my girlfriend (KB name Madass) has one and we'll be modding it too...
prob an engine swap - seems to be the most cost-effective as the pitbike places can sell decent 110 or 125s for $5-600 with carb , ignition etc.
just bolt them up - but you will lose the electric start..

Yea sounds like a plan. TBH i was thinking something a bit more technical and supercharging it, as i just LOVE the supercharger whine :)
But in the end, whatever i do has to be unique. I'm thinking nos & or supercharger :) I already have a turbo that i've stripped down to a compressor housing and pulley, and that's intended for another project. hmm what to do.
Here's some of the feasible idea's i've had tho.
Gear reduction \ lengthen.
Cam grind
Porting (very feasible as i have a die grinder with appropriate tools.)
aftermarket exhaust from neptunemufflers.co.nz *shameless plug*
Lightweight rims
Better tyres
Carbon rear tyre huggers (although mainly cosmetic)
POD filter?
Intake Tract shortening (mainly to get rid of the ripples in those horrid tubes (less turbulence)
LArger carb
Jetted carb
Feel free to add any ideas :)

i visited a mini mx bike shop right on the panmure roundabout -i think the guy's name was richard. he used to sell the madass and reckons an engine swap is the best idea - keeps it reliable.
he said a pod filter and carb rejet makes a big difference - along with the ignition and a freer exhaust if you don't want to bolt up a newer motor..

This is rediculous but very cool. I can't imagine dropping nearly $1500 on an engine for a $3000 scooter, but if it gets more people into smaller bikes then more power to them.
